1.Carter visit: 1978. The Cold war was ongoing between the US and the USSR. The Americans needed to shore up alliances to stay ahead of the Soviets.ESPECIALLY IN AFRICA....where the USSR was making great strides (already many African countries were strongly allied with the Soviets) That's why Carter was there.

2.Clinton visit: 2000. We had just gotten back under Democracy. As a reward, the US came calling, first via Albright the then US Secy of state, then Clinton the following year.

3.Bush 2003. The War on terror was in full swing...plus Bush too was very interested in shoring up alliances in Africa.

Obasanjo is a very diplomatic man of international acceptance and recognition, and very proactive. He knows how to fight for us outside Nigeria (not mentioning Bakassi Peninsula anyway).
I can remember how he was globetrotting when he became the president in 1999 and appealing to the Nigerians in diaspora, giving them the hope of better life at home.

Fast forward to present day, he is the richest ex-president in Nigerian history! His farm was upgraded and it is operational.

He stole a lot of public funds. He was the most corrupt president ever. In fact, he makes Abacha look like a 'petit' thief.

The thing is, we should never have gone to the International Court...because the weight of paper evidence was heavy against us.But Abacha, in order to cool tensions in 1994, decided to go to court, we did our best, but we lost in 2002.
