It all depend on your ability and the agreement you made with the organization you want to work with.
I earn 190k monthly as a programmer where I works and I makes more money from my side clients. I have many clients which includes private and public polytechnics, supermarkets, college, and many other organizations that uses my apps for their day-to-day activities. Within April and June, I have made over 1m from them all. Most of them are using same software with different GUI. Programming pays a lot but you have to pay your dues first.

I laugh when I see people arguing over peanuts ehn. You see some devs charging N30k for a project, I'm like wtf?
Personally, I don't consider them as devs cos it's not easy to become one... It takes constant effort and hardwork. When I said hardwork, I mean dedicating like 50-70hrs of every week trying to learn.

70 hours? Damn!

Bro I wanna learn programming, Any tips for me?

It depends on your position

In Nigeria

Junior devs earn anything between 80-250k larger startups like opay, paystack, terragon grp etc could even go as high as 300-350 depending on how talented you are

Mid level guys earn anything from 250-600, again depends on the company.

Seniors earn 600 and above. A dev once told me andela seniors earn about 800 upwards, alongside company perks, like lunch, transport and bonuses etc

Many senior and mid level devs move on to remote jobs though, especially the very talented ones. That’s where the money is since you earn in dollars or euros depending on the form that employed you. At that point you’d be talking over a million per month and yes they’re more common than you think

Below is a junior developer opening on stackoverflow so you get the drill. It doesn’t mean such jobs are easy to get, that’s why I said the very talented ones

Seniors are upwards of $70,000

modified

No Nigerian company will pay you $70k. At least none that I know of. I was referring to remote work.

The stackoverflow listing below is remote, it’s not a Nigerian firm, if you have the required qualifications, you can apply. Hopefully you get an interview

The problem is not the money the issue is meeting project deadlines at least from my experience in working remotely some developers in Nigeria. Also infrastructures deficiency is a big drawback. Internet speed is so bad that project collaboration becomes close to impossible.

You don't really to spend up to 70hrs, but there are some days you might.

Are you looking for self learning or a structured program?

If you want to self-learn, it's good but the question is how committed are you? It's easier to loose motivation when the going gets tough, when you're faced with hard projects, which will happen most time.

There are also structured programs online you can enrol for. Some, you have to psy before you use their resources et al, while there are some companies that run it like a school and you pay the tuition, which is like $16k on the average. However, the plus side is a whole lot of them allow you to pay $0 upfront and you'll then pay after you've completed your program. Some even help you to find jobs. But getting in is the problem cos you'll need basic level/ JavaScript and probably do live interviews/evaluation assessment before you're properly enrolled.

There are other factors like good internet and light that plays a critical role in determining how far you can go.

But in all sincerity, it's worth it in the end and there's no crime in giving it a shot.

Funny enough, it seems the female folks are very few in this programming aspect. I am yet to see a female full stack web developer comment on this thread. I just started python last week... The stuff na real passion and determination as some people has said here

Very good question. My answer.

Frontend developer: React, Restful API, Hooks, REDUX (this is extremely important), HTML CSS JavaScript, Object oriented programming, JavaScript Es6, Angular or Vue Js is an added advantage, you must know how to link WordPress API with React. These things I outlined look simple, it's not easy.

Backend: very crazy! Node.js, Python FLASK or Django, PHP etc but you must know how to create user models, API integration, Seeding, Credit and debit numerous users created by you, etc.

Software engineering is not easy at all but extremely rewarding. My brother attended over 12 interviews in less than 2 weeks due to high demand.

What about bootstrap as a front end framework

Hahaha, Bootstrap is child's play compared to what I've written in Frontend. Bootstrap is just a CSS framework not a frontend framework.

React, REDUX, Restful API are things that makes you a Frontend Developer, you should have mastered Bootstrap like ABC.
