The Vice-President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has said Nigeria needs a national debate to examine the issues around the size and cost of governance, which has often been described as expensive and unsustainable. https://punchng.com/nigeria-runs-expensive-govt-theres-need-for-national-debate-osinbajo/ 13 Likes 4 Shares

If only they can take heed of their own advise and try cut cost. By the way, can the cost of governance be reduced when the legislators are the one who are to vote for the reduction? The Nigerian politicians only care for what they will benefit from and not what the country will gain as to their own detriment. I dedicate this FTC to all those affected by the pandemic, they shall surely overcome and be great again. Morning Nairalanders 66 Likes 2 Shares |

What Nigeria needs now is to go our separate ways without war! This current system of governance has not, will not, ever work! Divide the country and let everyone grow at their own pace! The center cannot hold this British Experiment! 135 Likes 16 Shares |

Nigeria has one of the most recurrent expenditure in the world. It will amaze you to know that most time the government borrows money to pay workers of redundant agencies. Call me 07037629947 for your genuine dry land in Ibeju Lekki. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Birth rate should be massively controlled or massive shift to manufacturing, especially in third world countries. Nigeria is heading for the rocks if we dont make a change.. I dont want to sound like an doomsayer, but a world war maybe looming and only a massive depopulation of the world would balance out life. Maybe the reason for the (covid 19)... Before the advent of AI(Artificial intelligence), countries must go to lesser countries to setup factories and companies to earn more while employing, developing and training the lesser countries in return.. (The Manufacturing era 1980 to 2000) With the Advent of technology, they no longer need to come down, develop and train... they can earn and drain your forex directly with a single app. (App development 2000 till date, Amazon/Aliexpress), seeing that these lesser countries are no longer beneficial (crude oil to electric), borders would be closed and point based immigration would be employed to seive out those who can help it. (US, Canada, UK, Australia) Verdict:... resources of developing nations would be drained so bad with very serious unemployment using introduced technology from developed worlds leading to major crisis (terrorism, insecurity, anarchy), they would run into massive debt while becoming insolvent (Africa, india, Sri Lanka, venezuela) uptill an eventual take over, there would be serious revolt from developing nations due to the renewed slave mentality from developed nations (china / American domination and racism on blacks) that would trigger a world war which would massively reduce population to bring about a balance again, or a pandemic to wipe off quarter of the human race... 43 Likes 6 Shares |

Start with National Assembly. Make it a Unicameral legislature or at least slash their salaries/Allowances by 60%. The monies this country has lost in the name of Constitutional projects. Oh God. That place is an event center , most of them are come, chop and go attendees. Also, the Oronsaye Report should also be implemented Asap. They can start from there. 7 Likes 1 Share |

If we want to really make head way in this our God forsaken country. We have to start from our bogus military-like constitution and ensure that we have a central database and go digital in all our operations most especially our election processes. Scrap federal character and quota systems. Scrap state of origin, ethnicity and religion from our constitution. Invest massively in our educational systems, both formal and informal. Make primary and secondary schools free and compulsory. Invest in electricity and health care industry. Put the right persons in the right job no where he or she comes from. The judiciary too must up their games and ensure that justice is done without delay. Decentralize power and make the states and local government source fund independently. Chai, they know all these but greed and selfishness won't allow them. We keep moving in circles and keep blaming each other. Una good morning oh!!!! 36 Likes 3 Shares |

At first, they told us we needed a Sovereign National conference. At some point, constitutional amendment. Then GEJ held a National Conference, after which his government courageously allowed a little progressive change in the electoral system, and as a result of that change, lost power to them. They then ridiculed the National Conference to no end. They threw away the outcome of the conference, stated that Nigeria is okay as currently structured. That our only problem is corruption. That PDP's misrule for 16 years was our worst mistake. They said we do not need restructuring, that State Police is unnecessary. That our Police is enough. They defended Baba's 97%/5% policy. They made appointments dependent on what tribe's genes you carry. That merit doesn't matter when the President loves Nigeria, is well-intentioned, and is fighting corruption. At a point, an independent legislature became the scapegoat for our national problems. Because Baba needs the support of everyone in government. Dissenting views aren't welcome. Today, Baba owns the legislature. Yet, for some reason, these legislators are still the problem, because they won't vote themselves out of existence. Now that it's clear that nothing is working, what do they tell us? That we need a NATIONAL DEBATE. Back to square one. National Please, how did they convince anyone that they'll be good for Nigeria? TheRareGem1: It's not a national confab. It's a national debate. We read that correctly. They are still trying to tell us another story again. Anyway, thanks for the attempt at clarification, but you cannot make addendum to Osinbajo's words seeing as you're not Osinbajo, nor are you his media representative. Or are you? 42 Likes 5 Shares |

Debate? Isn't those benefitting from the lush fund that will debate? They'll never cut down those expenses, they will still padded it somehow. What is needed is a Revolution, where mass of conscious citizens will rise to demand these things, without Nigerians resisting and challenging people in government, nothing will happen. 7 Likes |

If only the results of the debate will be implemented. I still remember the National Confab GEJ organized some years back. If it won't turn into another way to chop money, then it is a welcome idea. |

This is exactly what needs to be done. We are running a very expensive government whose input and output is not visible in our economy. All they do is share money and sleep during meetings etc. We need to restructure so many things. We can't be spending over 70% of our revenue on overhead when we are not seeing results; the only results we see are dancing and singing politicians that live flamboyant lifestyle by feeding on our revenue. If our cost of governance is on the high side let us cut it down. Let us make sacrifices. If those so called legislators are honestly there to work to improve this country then let them make this critical decision; but we all know a large percentage if not all of them are there only for their pocket and not to move Nigeria forward. 2 Likes |

Over priced govt. A Nigerian governor should earn not more than $100,000 a year. They are not qualified even up to that amount in 3 years but just because. They don't implement quality fast track solutions. They love begging, just to turn around and steal it and then go beg again. Almost a 419 scheme. Nigeria is just currently not wise at all, but many of us think we are. 4 Likes |

Reason most of the political illiterate will always scramble for power, even when it’s obvious they have nothing to offer to the nation. Running the governance in Nigeria is definitely seen as cash-out. I believe introducing the Parliamentary system of governance would, to an extent, reduce the cost of governance. 5 Likes |
