The Lodge-

This is a total mindfucking movie. It's a slow burn but begins to pick up from the middle. The movie is tight, tense, creepy and the end, totally unexpected. A soon-to-be step mother spends time with her fiance's two children in their mountain home during a snow storm, and when the fiance has to leave them to go back to town because of work, everything turns upside down.

Moral of the story- Don't mess with things you can't fully understand. Don't start what you can't finish.

At the end of the film I said to myself "Oh God what a clusterfuck." Smh

UNLAWFUL ENTRY---1992

In this psychological thriller,Kurt Russell plays a nightclub developer whose house gets broken into by a thief.He calls for help from the police & one of them (played by Ray Liotta)helps to install a security system in his house & begins to unofficially visit & harass Kurt & his wife.Things then turn ugly between both sides.

It wasn't flat. It's a psychological thriller/horror movie that is meant to fvck with your mind. There's a shadow of something insidious in every scene. It's like seeing something at the corner of your eye but when you turn your head to catch a glimpse there is nothing there.

I did mention it's a slow burn, shey? It grows on you.

The First Purge (2018) - 5/10
An underwhelming performance by the cast all around.
But what do you expect from a low budget B movie with a smattering of known faces to give it some credibility?

I'm kind of disappointed with this being the latest installment of The Purge franchise.
Badly made especially since it's supposed to be the origin story.
I guess the producers just wanted to milk the storyline.
Shame on them!

THE END OF THE AFFAIR---1999

In this tragic romance set during World War 2 in England,Ralph Fiennes plays a novelist who gets entangled in an obsessive affair with his friend's wife (played by Julianne Moore).The movie depicts the affair from his & her perspectives.
If you enjoy movies with musings about romance,love,happiness,desire,jealousy,pain,passion & heartbreak,this is the movie for you

The Island (2005)
Genre: Action, Sci-fi, Thriller

The Island is a fast-paced, and suspense filled thriller set in a dystopian future, with a theme revealing the danger of excesses.

The story is about clones that are secretly housed in a facility far removed from the outside world, and are kept under control with lies, and intimidation.

It's a typical Michael Bay film, so the cinematography is very appealing. The pacing is taut. The action scenes are well done, and stylish. Evan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson did their bits very well, esp McGregor. The Brit is the the standout performer in my books - loved the scene where he switched seamlessly from American accent to British accent, and back to American accent. ScarJo and Sean Bean are immense, but my runner-up MVP goes to Steve Buscemi. He didn't get a lot of screen time, but the few times he's on screen, he ruled.

The film isn't all sunshine and rainbows, it has it's shortcomings as well. For instance, the editing could be better. In addition, it lacks much needed expository content that would have made the plot line much more coherent. Likewise, the inability to expound on the uniqueness of Lincoln Six-Echo kinda undermined the general efforts of the protagonist.

In conclusion, it's not a masterpiece, but if you need a diversion to kill the time with, this is it.

The Killing Gene (2007)
Genre: Crime, Drama, Horror

This film is not for the faint of heart, it's graphic, and deals with sensitive topics.

It's revenge-styled story about a woman with a grudge, and a score to settle with her traumatic past. This movie gives a whole new meaning to the the adage, "Hell halt no fury than a woman scorned."

Loved the somber, and noir-esque mood, and tone. The bleak cinematography gives the audience a a fly-on-the-wall perspective into the depressing story. Stellan Skarsgaard played a moody detective with a dark secret. I've come to associate Stellan with moody and dark roles. Like in every other role I've seen him portray, he aced this one. The supporting actress, Melissa George, didn't have much to do, beyond pouting, and scowling. Tom Hardy didn't get a lot of screen time, and the few times he did, didn't particularly impress me. Selma Blair played the broken, but vengeful villain pretty well. Her voice gave me the creeps - It's filled with agony, but at the same time, filled with malice.

The high points of the film are, Stellan and Selma Blair's acting, cinematography, score, the graphic and ultra-realistic torture scene, coherent script, plot twist, and the ending.

Be that as it may, the failure to expound on how Jean kidnaps her much larger and stronger quarries will always weigh the the plot line down. Furthermore, the inability to show most of the torture scenes didn't do the film any favours.

In conclusion, it's a thought provoking horror/drama that's designed to keep the audience at the edge of their seat.
