I am from Anambra and I am against the project because the government has better things to do with their pitiful amount of revenue. There are 3 airports 1 hour away from Anambra - Owerri, Asaba, Enugu. Use the 20-30 billion an airport will cost to fix Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi. You don't need an airport.
Nonsense! Those airports are in business because they are oiled by the large patronage of Anambra passengers who are the most travelled among Igbos. So that is capital flight from and revenue loss to Anambra state. The same thing was happening in the judiciary with capital flight to Enugu state until recently when the Federal Appeal court was domiciled in Anambra. Opposition in Anambra are so bitter it is has taken a toll on their sanity. If they are not opposing the airport or the second Niger bridge, they will send a mad man to make some video near the Governor's lodge grin

Anambra: Don’t bother me about Anambra airport project, Obiano’s commissioner lashes journalist

June 17, 2020 Okechukwu Onuegbu News 0

Barely seven months of boasting that the Anambra state International Cargo Airport project would be completed in less than 18 months, there is indication that work has not started at the site after the state commissioner for Works, Mr Marcel Ifejiofor, told journalists they won’t access it.

A team of investigative journalists including Blueprint reporter had gone to find out the pace of work at the site since Governor Willie Obiano, on November 27, 2019 during the Anambra Business and Investment Roundtable held at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, said the project would be completed before 18 months.

Obiano equally claimed that work has resumed on the site with clearing done at about a kilometer out of 3.6 kilometer runway.

“Oga, sorry, we don’t entertain journalists here any longer. You can’t be allowed to see its pace. You can call the works commissioner to confirm it,” two ununiformed men stationed at the entrance to the site stated, adding that the commissioner was on site with the contracting firm.

But a look from afar showed that there was no work on the site except a visible sign of a newly cleared road by bulldozer, first of its kind since 2017 the work was flagged off.

When the commissioner for works, Mr Ifejiofor was contacted on the phone, he queried, “Why are you here? Who told you to come here? We don’t allow people to come here, you can’t come, but you can come to my office on the following Wednesday by 10am,” he said.

On Wednesday, the commissioner fumed again,“I don’t know what you want to be told about the project. Go and quote me, just say work has not started. I am not ready to talk further on the project, so you can say that I said no comment. If you have other things to know about the state of roads in Anambra, I will be ready to speak to you, but I am not willing to talk about the airport.

“Any time I want to make a comment I will tell you. If the project had started our Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) would have carried the report.

Is it because I allowed you into my office? How many commissioners in the state can allow you into their offices the way I allowed you people not to talk of other eastern states. I don’t have any comments on the project,” he said.

Obiano had at a budget presentation at Anambra State House of Assembly on September 26, 2019 announced that the government has earmarked N6 billion naira for the construction of the Anambra State International Cargo Airport at Umueri, Anambra East local government area in fulfilment of his promise at 2017 governorship campaign.

The governor in 2017 inaugurated the airport project which, according to him, included a mall, industrial, business park, airport hotel and others, claiming that it would boost economic development and increase the income base of the state.

The project, estimated to cost over $2 billion and would be developed through a partnership between the Anambra State Government, Orient Petroleum Resources and Elite International Investments. Elite International Investments was specifically said to provide all funds under a build, operate, manage and transfer agreement.

Earlier in 2017, Obiano said it was a Chinese company, Sinoking International that would build it at no cost to the state through a Build-Operate-Manage and Transfer (BOMT) basis

Fool, this is what are happy to hear although it's fake, by the way he stated the truth because we don't entertain journalists at our airport site.
Okay if work have not started where are all this photos and videos coming from, and the ones commissioner of works Marcel ifejiofor posted on his YouTube channel.

Afonja, this anambra airport dey pain you bitterly

Appeal Court is different from an airport and this is not about politics. An airport serves REGIONS not political divisions. The sea port in Lagos serves everyone in Nigeria as does the sea port in Onne. An airport in Enugu serves not just Enugu but everywhere close to it including Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, etc. So lets stop being so village minded on this forum!

That is one. Number 2 is that an airport is EXPENSIVE and does not make money until it reaches a certain volume. The only airports making money in Nigeria are Lagos and Abuja. The rest are being subsidized by government funds. If you do not know how airports collect their revenue, let me tell you. Most comes from TICKET TAXES and CONCESSION Fees. Enugu airport with 350,000 domestic passengers and 30,000 international last year domestic barely made $4m revenue or 1.6 billion naira . How much do you think it costs to maintain that airport? Asaba airport made 100m naira last year.

This is why any sensible person would ask why are you dumping huge sums of money into an airport? What do you gain by it? Enugu is there, Owerri is there, Asaba is there. You gain NOTHING but a huge debt bill like Cross River and Akwa Ibom. Now the revenue of ANSG is less than 100 billion. Its cities are nothing to write home about. None have functional public water supply, none have even 20% of their roads tarred so what are you talking about? We have better priorities than an airport for Gods sakes!

Demon it doesn't concern you. Anambra international airport can still serve the entire region. Others can close the ones in their states and start using the airport in Anambra.

Stop crying because your demonic plots against the project has failed flat on its face. You are not from Anambra, because no Anambra person is against the airport project in our state.

We cannot place our destiny in the hands of another state simply because of airport which we are already constructing. Anambra international airport is different because it is tied to the business of Orient petroleum and the sell of ATK byproducts.

Leave our state alone and face your miserable life.

Anambra airport is also cargo airport for business men's in Anambra. Do you know that Over 60% of goods and services that are imported through Lagos cargo seaport and airport are heading to anambra state, okay now if we have the cargo seaport and airport our state government will takes advantages of it in every sectors and it will be easier and low cost for our business men's who stress and spend so much within and outside the country just for their goods to reach the final destination which is here in Anambra State, and mind you that agribusiness and orient petroleum needs the airport more than everyone.

So we know what we are doing and we don't need ur suggestion

And also note that 20% equity was allocated to Orient Petroleum, even if Anambra Airport infrastructure allocated 75% to Orient petroleum they are willing to fund it, and also note that Osike Synergy Nigeria limited and Emsworth oil and gas limited are in as the Airport facilitators and alot of other investors.

and as it is now work in ongoing morning and night Sundays and weekdays despite the pandemic . It the project will be delivered very soon.

I don't have time for bad belle people. I seriously doubt you are from Anambra state. Even if you are, you can't possibly make this opinion in public without sharp rebuke or silent disdain from those you are engaging in dialogue. Osita Chidoka who spoke against the airport during the guber debate in 2017 saw how his people rejected him totally in the main election. Even his Idemili area voted against him, something they usually don't do against their own unless he has derailed.

An airport is nothing special except for people who cannot reason. Chidoka has a masters degree in transportation and saw the waste of funds same with Obaze. It was not what lost him the election in 2017 it was that he lacked the political structure to compete.

As for Obiano he has had almost 8 years to show us what he can do. His planning is terrible, his administration is wasteful and full of his corrupt aguleri kinsmen including that overweight works commissioner under whos watch local roads are collapsing.

His so called airport is not feasible in the next 5 years and I laugh when the idiots in govt house and here dance with videos of site tours. A runway alone takes 2-3 years and that is with full funding. Obiano is just fooling people because he knows the next governor will dump the project.

As for his ICC which makes more sense they made a mess if it. A simple building three years after conception its not even 25% completed. Yet people build 100 room hotels in less time.

"Why do we need an airport in Anambra State when we do not have roads?" - Obaze questioning @WillieMObiano
plan to build an airport. #AnambraDebates

Don't mind some of these idiots on this forum. For anyone with sense it is obvious the Anambra State government is playing to the gallery. They are highly incompetent and it shows. The people dancing don't know better. They haven't seen the six lane expressways Houston (where Obiano lives) has or the hundreds of roads that dot that city.

ANSG's preferred amateur contractors (IDC) took the Amawbia-Awka expressway that had space for THREE lanes and reduced it to two lanes with no crash barriers, no emergency lane, no service lane, no markings, built ramps in the WRONG places and called them flyovers and said it all cost 13billion naira ($50m). Then to make a mockery of engineering they put up a fake suspension bridge tower with cables because they wanted it to look like Lekki-Ikoyi bridge not knowing that those towers serve a purpose and are not "decoration".

Meanwhile just go into Onitsha and Awka and experience the chaos and confusion of cities that lack major infrastructure. Awka Road that is the main entry into Onitsha is a one-lane road. Iweka road a wide road named after one of the great early engineers has deteriorated greatly with part of it taken over by a market. The old Enugu-Onitsha EXPRESSWAY built by the colonialists as the first PLANNED anambra-enugu artery that cuts through a large number of important towns from Nkpor, Ogidi, Abagana, Enugwu-Ukwu, Awka has become nothing more than a one-lane local road inundated with filthy markets spilling over and causing lots of traffic. What a DISASTER.

Useless demonic bastard. Our international airport is ongoing, cry and die. All those states with airport are not even better than anywhere in Anambra.

Our cities are doing great, our roads are the best. Awka is the fastest developing city in Nigeria aside Abuja, with massive multi lanes roads that have never been seen any where else in the region. Awka flyovers are structurally solid and beautiful. Onitsha is a mega is a beautiful city with nice infrastructures, it is the economic capital of the region with heavy and light industrial and commercial presence Anambra is equally the richest state in the region by GDP. We lead in education, agriculture, human capital development etc.

Anambra represents to the SE what Lagos and Rivers states represents to the SW and SS respectively. Does all those states that have airports has better roads than Anambra? NO. Anambra even have far better roads networks than them.

So if there is any state that needs an airport it is Anambra and we are getting it. Anambra is the state with the largest population in the region, which means it is the state with the highest destination in SE.

Anambra generally has the best roads networks in the region. Anambra have the best schools in the region that has continued to churn our excellence in academics and winning all manner of international and local academic awards.

Cry and die, we don't care but our international airport is ongoing and shall be completed soon. tongue

Why can't Yoruba people understand that whether they wish the SE evil or not, someday, we will have all the facilities that bring us to Lagos and they can have their overrated urban slum back.

I feel sorry reading the nauseating effort by these people to either discourage Igbos from providing what the FG refused to provide. They burst their spleen trying to convince us to accept their deceit.

I wish they know that we already know their kind by the virtue of years gained being in Nigeria with these treacherous people.

That cursed frustrated bitter vagabond called mktinsight is so frustrated that the airport project has finally taken off after all he tried on nairaland and Omambaladotcom failed flat here. Ofcourse his rants always starts and ends on nairaland. If he try it offline, he will be lynched.

He thought we don't know what we need as Anambra people. I am yet to see a single Anambran that's not happy with the airport project. It can only be a bitter sadistic enemy that's against the project and that's what mktinsight is. If it were possible for him, he would have gone to the site as a demon to stop the work, but I will lead the team that will lynch and burn him ashes.

Mktinsight cry and die. cool
