My Experience At A Scam Interview Company. by laosy(m): 3:56pm On Jun 28, 2020
Good afternoon Nairalanders.
I want to share my interview experience with a fraudulent company or should I call them individuals. It's quite a long story and it would have been great if nairaland have a voice note feature. Anyways, I'll type.

It begins like this, I'm an undergraduate of a federal University. I've been at home since the beginning of the lockdown and I'm really fed up of staying at home. So beginning of this week, I hinted like 3 of my friends that I'll like to get a job I can manage for the remainder of the school lockdown as the FG doesn't seems ready to open school yet. So, one of them told me to contact an agent in charge of stuff like that, then I told him I don't know any agent oo. So he said he knows one that got him a job when he just finished his secondary school before he got admission into the university. So, he told me he'll link me up with the agent that he charges 3k for the service. So I got talking with the agent on WhatsApp and he asked for my location and I told him I live on mainland in Lagos oo. So, he asked me the type of job I'll like to get and I told him,I'll prefer a front desk officer/ secretary in any small organization or better still a sale rep in a supermarket.
Then, on Friday evening, he sent me a screenshot of an organization's invite for an interview the next day (Saturday) at ikeja( I'll attach the screenshot). Then I asked him what the company is into, he said business development and I said okay, then I asked for the post of the vacancy but he just told me to go and I'll find out. Then, I thought to myself perhaps, it's the front desk officer job that I told him before.
Fast forward to yesterday which was the day of the supposed interview which was slated for 8am. I got there about 8:05, but I was surprised the company doesn't have a signature outside the building that shows the name of the company or what they are into. I got in anyways, and I saw a couple of people filling an attendance paper, I was surprised I was no 46 on the list cuz I think I'm the only one for the interview. I got into the reception and I saw a lot of people seated on chairs so I took a sit too. While on the seat, a lot of thoughts came running into my mind like I was the youngest person there, and some people were dressed in shirt and tie while some on casual dress. I was about to leave cuz I don't expect such and I'm only an undergraduate looking for a minor job before resumption but something just kept me seated to wait and see how it goes. While at the reception, they played Dangote's interview with an Aljazeera presenter and Sijibomi Ogundele's interview( real estate entrepreneur) too. I looked around and I saw about 3 wall pictures of quotes from Nelson Mandela, Maya Angelou and Mark Zuckerberg and a photo painting too. After being seated for about 45mins, a lady attended to us and told us that the interview will be in two phases with two different groups, that we'll be grouped from our names on the attendance. So she started calling names, one group was asked to stay downstairs and the other upstairs, I was part of the group upstairs.
So when we got there and we were seated, another lady came in and told us that, she'll play a video and we should listen and jot down things as she'll ask us some questions from the video that will determine our selection, meanwhile I still don't know the nature of the job while seated. After the video ended, she came in again and introduced herself, and started asking questions in the video. The video was abt entrepreneur mindset Sha, so she went on and on the video then she started talking about she got into the company like we did by getting interview messages. She never mentioned the name of the company all along, she kept on saying they offered information services and when we get in we'll be partner of the company and not an employee, we'll get income and not salary as income will increase every month. She went on for about 3 good hours. After she was through she said she'll introduce her CEO that'll do the selection. Before the supposed CEO came in, they played a video by Pst Sam Adeyemi talking about taking risk in a business. I already got the whole scope of the interview but I kept seated and I'll like to see how it ends. So, the CEO came in, nicely dressed with a fake gold wrist watch undecided and he talked about how he was a medical student of Babcock but he didn't practice as people expected as he got to know about this business while he was serving as a corper. He said he made 20k in the 1st month, 45k the 2nd month, 90k 3rd mth and 145k angry angry the 4th month. I was already laughing sheepishly grin grin inside as I was shaking my head for the gullible people there who were so into the bullshit.
To cut the long story short, he said we'll have to pay a token of 20k for the license from International Research Company which has it's headquarter at California in USA. He said the majority of the money will be used to request for a license as they'll have to mail the International organization today and they'll get the license before Monday which will be needed for a conference they'll be hosting on Monday at a location that'll be texted to them on their phone and mail. I kept asking intense questions but these guys always find a way to shut me up. He was even of the opinion that they can pay with cash or card as they have POS grin grin there with them or even borrow as this is a lifetime opportunity. Fools!
When I was fed up with their bullshits, I rose up to leave but I really pity those that are still there, especially some old people there too.

Pls, moderators push this to front page so others can share their experiences too for people to learn.

If I talk nah some ppo chatting from mud house will start talking raw bish!

My mind

Gnld, alliance in motion, eddymark, longrich etc,

I keep wondering if they are humans or aliens, or they forgot that buwari is still on the beat! Someone looking for a job nah Yu want collect 20k from even if nah shekau. Forcing desperate ppo who wants a job to feed and take care of their aged parents to travel out of town for something that was never real, some like me borrowed transport fare just to meet up....

Selling fancied drugs or health condiments that wud never be found on shelve in pharmacies. Except for long rich lately. And yet some of Yu are losing immediate family members to sicknesss anyhow and una expensive chalk and oil can't do nana, You could have easily have made Dem sales reps and pay them more wen their sales grows.. Instead yu want them to buy from Yu, hawk their wares and bring more unsuspecting hopefuls into ur sweet slave chain before they can start growing. Even wen it's written on their faces that they haven't sold any.. funny haw ur shout at them, for free of charge hawker, then hypnotized them that the reason they aren't climbing the ladder is because they are not serious in fetching more new hands with money. Their talk for a start make Yu say God this kind opportunity dey na I come go prayer house.. now how is that different from cultism!!!!

If it were to be genuine job opportunities, tribalism would take all the juicy slots. But Yu need ppo of all background waiting for God to pick their calls as if Yu were a solution to their immediate needs...

I almost suffered wen Yu guys taunted me with a job. Wen I could bearly feed... after graduating like 7 years ago..Even wen Yu noticed I was damn disappointed and moody with pleasure yu kept on telling me I would be so rich I wud be flying abroad to buy tooth brush, when I look far better than all of Yu.

I don't know how they have succeeded for so long under the radar with the online and offline scam industry, But brethren we should start accepting them like jungle justice candidates For this nonSense to stop. Depression is a major share holder among the youths. and yu really dont need much teasing for a typical modern day Nigerian to let Yu get some....

It will not be well with "Job scammers"

Ppo will soon see reasons to note my opinions

And soon their corpses with start making front pages!! If Yu bet and dedicate ur existence to frustrating somebody's child!!!!

I swear up

I had this same experience in 2016 at Ebutte Metta environs when I was fresh out of school and looking for a job. Exactly the same thing but the video they played was different Sha. I think ours was from Matthew Ashimolowo grin

We were even told to even switch off our phones or put it on vibration. After the so called boss explained the business and told us about the price of every thing, I just knew this isn't what I signed up for and that I just wasted my money that I'm managing that day. They were so serious and if your phone rings they'll send you out cos according to them you can't follow instructions blah blah blah.

Alas! I saw people that were looking for job paying for what they talked about. I asked myself, how can you be looking for job and have over 10k to drop for one story that you're unsure of.

The "boss" said any amount you can pay now, pay it and the following week, you'll come with the Balance and they will do the inauguration or something for such person into the team. I just laughed as people were paying even 2k,1k as acknowledgment money, promising to transfer when the get home grin

I just left as people were busy filling forms and dropping details for a scam interview. In this Lagos you can't afford to be naive and gullible.

I had this experience recently, i thought i had a genuine interview and i was hopeful for a good outcome.
Those people are proud and rude sha, they kept talking as if you wouldn't make it except with them.
The most painful thing that day was wasting my last 1k on transport fare.

Going by comments up there, I noticed something no one is talking about which is applying to every kind of jobs. You all need to know what you want in the labour market. You can't be a Computer Science graduate and be applying to any how job.
This is why it is difficult for people to track their applications thereby falling prey of scam interview. I will take myself as an example. I have three popular roles I usually apply for. So when I get invite and it isn't any role I usually apply for or the role is not stated there then I know it's definitely a scam. Even in cases the roles are stated and it's something I can do but so far it's not one of the three roles I usually apply for, I don't ever attend such interview.
A legit company that included the position they want a candidate for will do same when shortlisting for interview.
I know these people device different methods to scam unsuspecting job seekers but we can limit falling prey by narrowing our job search to roles that matches our experience and academic qualifications.

They wouldn't mind advising one to borrow if possible, knowing their intention. What a pity!

Even if scammers are offered good jobs, they wouldn't accept because their joy lies in defrauding their fellow men. They do not care about their victims at all.

About 1M people have applied for the N-Power work already, and you marvel at how these fraudsters show off their ill-gotten wealth, trying to earn undeserved respect/fame.

May they all be served with hot death,,,,if they do not forsake their greed.

Lol, 8 Bisi Ogabi Street. I once got a message from them too when I was job hunting. I was happy at first but decided to check the address on nairaland because I had seen so many stories about scam interviews.

Thankfully, I found out that many nairalanders had received messages from them and they said it was a scam. I was a bit disappointed but at least I did not waste my little money and time.

Thank God those days are over for me.

I love the fact that you couldn't "remember correctly". It goes to show that you never ever received a "check" from the company or you would definitely have remembered correctly.

But of course, your uncle received one, lol. Someone else always receiving one being part of what keeps this scam going.

OP just dey pretend, I know you fell for their scam, that was why you were sitted for so long.

Anyway you be JJC, any Lagosian that has been into the labor market, has been to such an interview at least 2 or 3 times, I personally attended 3 of such interviews, it was after the 3rd one I stopped falling for their bullshit.

Nowadays immediately I receive a text message from the likes of them I recognise it immediately.

TIPS TO RECOGNISE FAKE INTERVIEWS
1. You get an interview message for a job you didn't apply for.

2. The message does not clearly display the name of the company (its abbreviated or its called a consulting etc.)

3. The message wasn't sent to your email (most companies will send a text message and also an email, some don't even send text messages because an email is the standard protocol)

4. The name of the HR on the email is written casually, probably just the first name (A standard company with a competent HR, would write the name of the HR PERSONNEL in full).

5. When a number is included in the text message, and you call the number for details of the company, or they call you and you ask them, what the company is all about or what they do, and they fail to give you a better straight forward answer, that's a red flag.

Now listen ;
1. This is targeted towards non experienced graduates or non graduate ( there are a lot of first class engineering graduates working in Kpmg) , you first real opportunity might not be your first job.
2. This set of people are desperate ( which a average Nigerian whose parent is not rich should be). Once you graduate ur parent will hands off u and take care of other siblings or important things , seeing u at home be like this..
