Marriage within the family seems to be more rampant in some regions of the world for one reason or the other. Can you marry someone from your family? Like your father's brothers daughters or sons? Do you see these relationships legally or socially acceptable? Is there anywhere in the holy book that supports marrying within the family? What is the origin of allowing marriage within the family? What are the pros and cons? For some it's a taboo but some still went ahead to marry and consummate such affairs and have kids Do you know someone living in such union? Did the taboo affect them? Or is it you? |

It depends on what your traditions permit. I am an Anambrarian and we don't marry even our 4th generation relatives, I think the restriction stops at 5th or so. 2 Likes |

nony43:I think it's taboo going by ancestral beliefs otherwise called superstition.. But going forward in our modern day, I realised the taboo tagged to it and linking it to wrath of the gods happened to be what we call defects arising from Inbreeding. Inbreeding will occur definitely either in the first or Second filial generation. The Fulani tribes are typical example. 1 Like |

Munzy14: Many troubles indeed. A school mate of mine back then almost got married to her 3cousine. It was during the introduction they found out, they were later told to source for a one eye goat to do some cleansing but bride refused since they are Christians and their courtship was chaste. It was funny to me back then. 1 Like |
