Cultist like to say "Who no go, no know" but a lot of them dont know much about the history of their society, they only know about the lingos, drilling & hits.

Let me talk about NBM for instance. NBM was created by 10 founders but their history says 9 because the others killed the missing one - Charles Kokoma for betrayal - BKB. It is suspected that he helped brew the first NBM rum - NBM drink is called Kokoma.

NBM drilling is called Janetting. Janet was the gf of one of the founders, she betrayed NBM & died when she was being drilled, I suspect she was Charles' gf.

For these deaths, the first temple FJ was called 'Murder temple' not Mother Temple as people call it now.

Do you know a Buccaneer did the first initiation for the founders of NBM before handing over to one of them? Do you know that the founders thought about Brothers of Barracacans before picking the name Bla.ck Ax.e Men - BAM. Thats how the word 'bamming' came about.

Btw, barracacans is another name for vikings, lol.
Charles kokoma was never a person in NBM. He was just used as a figure of someone who betrays the temple that was beheaded, its just Like a folk tale in NBM. The founding fathers of NBM.. Were originally 10 but on the initiation day only 9 showed up.
The person who headed their initiation was from university of ibadan.. He was a bucket.
The then patron of the movt was prof. Owoh ojukwu, a prof of history and anthropology uniben...
Every movement needed a story as a head start so then they came up with one using Charles kokoma and janet story this story was passed to new initiates after them to instill fear and discipline.

nope you’re wrong bro...this hand shake belongs to sec...it looks similar but the difference is for Vikings the tip of the thump presses backward but for sec it presses forward you’ll have to look closely to be sure most times ....

numberonecytyzen:

Very true

Both false, the handshake in that image was adopted by SVC, their street offshoots&few tertiary institution cult groups. SEC handshake/claw is almost same as that on the pix but the thumb is bent forward at right angle to touch the recipients' own. Tho some SEC members don't get it right&keep shaking/clawing with SVC handshake/anchor.

Very true as per it's hard to differentiate between the two. When I first came to Warri, I thought most of cultists anchoring were SVC not knowing that there were eiye.

Like other confraternities and secret societies, NBM use specific symbols, abbreviations, expressions and clothing items, many of which are kept secret:

Axe: The axe is the symbol of NBM. Because of its shape it is also referred to as "7". The often used code "147" means "one for seven" = one for (Black) Axe/NBM. Axes are also part of the regalia worn by members.

B***k A*e: This is a metamorphosis of the first name of the movement "Black Barracards". The name was changed to "" then finally , even though it remains the inofficial name. "" also became the name of the magazine published by the movement. This again was changed to "Uhuru Magazine" later.

Axeman: Members of NBM refer to each other as axemen (or alternatively lord, bam, amigos, wise/strong men).

Lord: a graduate member.

Aye: a campus member, also known as "Temple Aye". Those are known for gang wars, cult killings and rape at Nigerian universities. The term "aye" is also used as a greeting among members. Aye is an abbreviation of "African Youth Empowerment".

Temple (T): Nigerian university where new cult members are recruited (see list below).
Murder Temple: often falsely called Mother Temple. It means the Futa Jallon Temple, aka University of Benin. The term refers to the crisis that occurred at the birth on NBM at the said university, the murder of one of the founders who turned out to be a traitor (see below).

Blending/Bamming: initiation into the cult. Bam is also used as an expression of approval ("you bam"wink

Jollification/Jolly: gathering of members (also for initiation), parties. There is talk about jus and virgins having been sacrificed at jollies.

LP ("Elpee"wink: Jolly song.

Zone: a local group of NBM. There are zones in Nigerian states and in many countries worldwide, often with subdivisions

Ju/jew (name): someone who has not been initiated / real name.

Injew: member of a different cult group

Tingo/Bird: member of the Eiye confraternity (Airlords), the rival cult hated most by NBM

Strong name (SN): name given at initiation, "Aye/Lord" plus usually the name of an African freedom fighter, dictator or terrorist, for example "Lord Muammar Gadhaffi". In all communications among members the strong name is used.

Clothing: Members of the confraternity have a uniform of sorts that consists of black, white and yellow clothing (black trousers, white shirt, yellow tie, yellow ribbon on cap) which symbolizes the following: Black signifies identification with the black race and the dignity thereof, white signifies peace and purity of mind and body, yellow signifies intellect. The color of the regalia depends on the rank of a member.

Uhuru: alleged goal of NBM, meaning “freedom” in Swahili.

Egede: Originally used for the greeting with the clash of forearms, more recently also used for drums.

Dodorima: Dodorima in Igbo language refers to honesty, straightforwardness, intelligence, hard working, etc. It has become the culture of NBM members to say, "Dodorima/Dodos to you". This entails praises and adoration given to a particular person based on something he did.
Orientation (OT): Knowledge about the "movement" or acquiring such knowledge.

Janet: Term used for punishment, especially beating with a cane or whip. According to NBM legend Janet was a girlfriend of one of the founders. She is said to have betrayed the "movement" and to have been beheaded for that reason like Charles Kokoma

Kokoma: drink containing various ingredients and drugs such as weed, kola nut, zobo leaf, alligator pepper, tomtom, panadol. It is prepared by the Chief Priest and used at initiation of new members. An oath is sworn with Kokoma: should the initiated member ever betray NBM, Kokoma is thought to squeeze life out of him. NBM legend also has it that a certain Charles Kokoma was one of the founders of NBM but betrayed the "movement" and was then beheaded by the others (even though this name does not appear on the official list of founders). Therefore beheading is today seen as the appropriate punishment for one who betrays the "movement" and leaks its secrets.

Korofo (Krf): “the cult of the underground” (Yoruba religion). Korofo is often referred to in NBM (“may Korofo squeeze the life out of them” / “Korofo on guard”)

Folklore? The ones who died after Charles & Janet were folklore too? Do you know those two are said to be the first BKB deaths & how NBM became so feared? Do you know one reason NBM was setup was to checkmate PC in Uniben? They came to fight. Ask any serious NBM person, the price for betrayal is beheading. If Charles' beheading was folklore, so when did it start?

Let me share a story:

An important member of NBM repented some years back. He confessed all his sins but muddled up his cult affliation. No mention of the cult he was actually a strong member of. People who are not in the know will say they heard it from the horse's mouth but the horse wasnt truthful in that instance.

My point is with these guys you must always crosscheck their stories.

The person who didnt turn up was Tokunbo Brown, the patron Prof. changed the name from Bl.ack ax.e men to Neo-black movement.

Like I said earlier, NBM was birthed to control the excesses of PC in the institution then. Before 1977 PC were the major runners of school activities as they were mostly found as members of the students council and also shared ties with the school authorities. PC members were those days were seen as mini gods who were above laws because they were in many vital positions in the school system..
With this advantage, PC exerted full control over the students council and common men (students) they moved about unchallenged in the school beating up students who crossed their paths, attacking common students at the slightest altercation..these they did because they controlled almost the helm of affairs. Note: it was not also at the university of Benin that they exerted this power, they exerted this power in other universities that they were present in due to their high numbers.
Imaging those days waking up and leaving your hostel then you find a fellow students tied to a tree naked or only on his boxers and a note written above him "anyone who attempt to free him incurs the wrath, We are watching" he would be left there for a day without any intervention not even from the students council because PC in Uniben them control the school system.

It was at this that Nicholas Idemudia birthed the ideology and spoke to the fellow FF then, they came up after several meetings and finally came up with the idea. NBM was Birthed in the 1977/78 academic session. FF then pictured the PC and school authorities as the colonial masters and they the students as the SA.. At that point they likened what they faced to that of the Apartheid movt in SA. Came up with the ideology of controlling the excesses of PC in the institution. That was the ideology NBM was birthed on.
The idea of Charles kokoma was a folklore by the FF and their initiator from UI to instill fear and discipline in the mvers who wants to be part of the movt not to betray that was among the reasons right from the inception of NBM procession there was a coffin in order to make it look more serious though as at then they just did it with little faith..lol.. The idea still works today as many people because they wanted it to work.
The reason for the presence of the coffin also was to signify the black mam has buried fear and embraced death as a cause to freedom... The coffin alone shook the whole school and pc on one of their open procession..
Charles kokoma was never a person in the movt. NBM never had connection with women called Janet all these were folktales just to warn the younger generation not to toil with the interest just as our fathers tells us this..
In NBM creed if you betray the movt you must be de-axed but it is not so today, nature took its cause as new members keyed into what they were told.
Most of the fraternity we had today were built on solid ideologies but things have gone more carnal and its no longer what it used to be.
I would like to stop here I don't want to probe further...
I just want to explain your last message
Note: Tokunbo Brown was the first right hand of NBm in 1977/78.. While the one who conceive the idea was an ihazar aside Godwin Ehigator (reasons tho)
All of them who joined were automatically office holders as they were assigned roles.
Marvel akpoyibo was a left hand and tokunbo brown was a right hand for just two months
