Reps Move To Rescue Buratai’s Critic, Lance Corporal Martins, In Military Detention

Elumelu said, “The House is disturbed that though Section 122 of the Armed Forces Act forbids the military from perpetually detaining any officer, Lance Corporal Martins ldakpein, has been held in detention till date and his wife who tried to secure his release has also been detained.

“This is an affront to the letters of Chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, which guarantees the fundamental human rights of citizens.”

Also, the House asked that “ldakpein should be brought before the relevant House committees and the leadership, to brief them of the happening in the northern part of the country.”

http://saharareporters.com/2020/07/03/reps-move-rescue-buratai%E2%80%99s-critic-lance-corporal-martins-military-detention

What is the crime of this lance corporal wife, for her to be detain But this same military will release boko haram terrorist.

I fully support the House on the bolded.

I'm so sure if he had praised and worshipped the Dubai landlord, he and his wife won't be in this situation.

The Senate & House of Representatives defense committee should work together on this. They should invite the Lance corporal to hear first hand information from him about the fight against boko haram in the North east.

The Nigerian Military has said it is not their duty to expose those sponsoring Boko Haram in the country. Coordinator of Defence Media Operations, John Enenche, stated this at a media briefing on Thursday.

Enenche admitted that the Army knows that some criminal groups have heavy financial backing, but its major task is to fight “terrorism and other criminality”.

He explained that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Department of State Services (DSS) were responsible for revealing the sponsors.

“It is not the duty of the military to uncover the sponsors.
Our duty is to remain in the frontline and defeat terrorism and other criminality and that is what we are doing."

“We have the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and the Dept of State Security (DSS). It is their responsibility to gather intelligence on the sponsors of the terrorists and not the military,” Enenche maintained.

RE- IT IS NOT OUR DUTY TO UNRAVEL BOKO HARAM SPONSORS

1. The attention of the Defence Headquarters has been drawn to a publication in some quarters with the above caption attributing it to a statement made by the Coordinator Defence Media Operations. For the records, the Coordinator only explained that unraveling sponsors of Boko Haram, Bandits and other criminal groups is the collective responsibility of the Intelligence fusion center, where both the Defence Intelligence Agency, Department of State Service and National Intelligence Agency work in harmony, while kinetics of operations is handled by relevant components of the Military. It is also on record that these agencies and the Armed Forces of Nigeria work together in all the Theaters of operations in the country. Recall also that recently, the Chief of Defence Staff even had National security meeting engagements with the various Heads of these security agencies and the Service Chiefs with a view to re-strategising the ongoing war against criminal elements. The Coordinator was quoted out of context by some media sources.

2. The publication is misleading and should therefore be disregarded. It is kindly advised that Journalists put in due diligence, to package stories in the right context before rushing to publish. We will remain accessible to the media for corroboration as well as verification of relevant news items. Thank you for your usual support and cooperation.

Many of us here have noted the disparities between the numbers of terrorists killed and number of weapons recovered, well I recently read a comment from a COIN expert (David Otto Endely) that the idea of the super camps have greatly limited their access to arms and ammunition. We all remember how they used to overrun FOBs with superior numbers and firepower and leave with large caches of weapons. There are rarely small formations of troops for them to overrun and collect weapons from so they've resorted into giving one riffle to about 5 terrorists to share, when one dies, another picks the riffle up and so on.
I don't know how true this is though but I believe by now most of us would have noticed the pattern and frequency of attacks recently, they are very desperate for supplies. Yesterday they attempted to attack an IDP that was just supplied with relief materials so as to cart away the relief materials for their own good. About a month ago we all saw a destroyed BHT guntruck with bowls of foods and resources they had just stolen from a community in it (the guntruck that was struck with precision by a rocket/cannon we talked about it at that time here)
We all know they recently asked for ransoms of £500000 to release three aid workers who they would have ordinarily slaughtered and posted online for psychological warfare.
A lot of things are changing in this war.

FIGHT AGAINST INSURGENCY: OPERATIONAL CAPABILITY RECEIVES BOOST AS NAF TAKES DELIVERY OF NEWLY REACTIVATED ATR-42 AIRCRAFT FOR ISR

In furtherance of its sustained efforts at ensuring availability of more serviceable Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms for prosecution of the war against insurgency and other forms of criminality in the Country, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 3 July 2020, took delivery of another reactivated aircraft, an ATR-42 (NAF 930). The aircraft was received at the flight line of 307 Executive Airlift Group, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja by the Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Oladayo Amao, on behalf of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who is currently in the Northeast to oversee the ongoing subsidiary Operation LONG REACH II.

The reactivation of the aircraft, which was successfully executed at the Rheinland Air Services (RAS) Facilities, Monchengladbach, Germany after clocking 5,000 hours of operation, was earlier scheduled to be completed within 6 months. However, due to the effect of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the completion date was extended by 3 months.

It would be recalled that, over the last 5 years, the NAF, in collaboration with its technical partners, has successfully reactivated some of its platforms in-country, including the conduct of Periodic Depot Maintenance (PDM) on 2 C-130H aircraft as well as the PDM/Avionics upgrade of 3 Alpha Jets. However, being the first PDM on the ATR-42 aircraft (NAF 930) after 10 years of operation, it was considered expedient to conduct this major maintenance activity abroad to take advantage of the facilities and expertise of RAS as well as build the capacity of the NAF Engineers and Technicians that participated in the reactivation process in Germany.

Other dignitaries present to receive the newly reactivated aircraft were the Director of Operations, AVM Ayoola Jolasinmi, Director of Air Engineering, AVM Isah Muhammad, and the Commander 307 EAG, Air Commodore Francis Edosa.

I think what he meant is that you failed to acknowledge the effort of the Nigeria army. The News story also reported Nigerian military dealt with bokoharam/isis by killing over 1200 fighters.

You made it sound like Nigerian military are not doing anything and the Chadians are doing all the good work

When you already have pre- conceived notions your perception becomes tainted.

I found his explanation very concise but you have chosen to deduce it differently.

Why l do not know.

For some here the blatant bitter truth is too much to bear and it must be denied.

This same way, people were clamoring for t72, lots of them in storage we can easily get it, till we both the t72s and bmp1s....that started breaking down, if we can buy any equipment new, then no need

That is not a good example, however, it is of blatant shameless corruption in the NA.

You can procure from a number of former Eastern block countries upgraded T-72 MBT that will compete almost on all fronts with the Chinese new MBT the NA have just procured but at 1/10 of the cost or lower. So with $75 million you will have 150 almost new T-72's for all intents and purposes.

See vids below self explanatory about the capacity and capability of a upgraded modernised T-72. Not a rust bucket painted green and passed off as refurbished and modernised.

Flight and mission costings are highly generalist and do not take cognisance of local variables and permutations. As a consequence there are HUGE disparities between airforces and in particular the USAF.

What level of staffing support and infrastructure
is required to keep a fighter jet in the air by the USA and by the NAF

For example a NCO can earn including other payments over time, mission specific, depending on speciality, can earn up too $75,000 a year. A mid level senior officer such as Squadron leader can earn up to $150k a year. Now factor all that into aggregate costs including fuel costs, number of man hours and personal deployed, engineering staff, and support, maintenance etc.

Now look at NAF aggregate costs how much is the pay of a NCO, and what is pay of a mid level senior officer such as Squadron leader in the NAF. Consider the level of support staff required to keep a fighter jet in the air in Nigeria.

Now articulate those variables into an aggregate cost per hour, for the USAF and you can see how their costs can rise too $8000 per hour. Now make a projection of our NAF variable costs, deployed personal and articulate those costs into an hourly aggregate for the NAF.

Now ask yourself do you think they will be the same.

An appendicitis operation in Nigeria may not be more than naira 300k ( guess). But it will cost you about $55000 or more in the USA. That's to highlight the price differentials with the two different countries of Nigeria and the USA.

So you can make an informed projection that hourly running costs will be far less than what the over indulgent USAF costs are.

Your rational is perfunctory and not well thought out but very impulsive.

You cannot ignore capital acquisition costs in the equation of cost, it is intrinsic to any cost appraisal.

The A29 is the most over priced military turboprop in the world, when you are paying $40 million ➕ for a turboprop. You can't be talking about running costs which are very spurious at best.

Then you have to consider alternatives and the issue of opportunity cost witt those alternatives. With that you can come to a more balanced appreciation of cost aa well as best value and most effective use of scarce resources.

We will get one or two A29 before the year runs out, hopefully, that's three years later and the rest will not be delivered in completion until 2024. That's really absurd.

The costs of one A29 will get us 35+ Wing Loong II UAV.

Below a YouTube video of a Turkish UAV which is around not as good as the Wing Loong II. To highlight the efficacy for those who have forgotten. Imagine the impact those UAV's will have not in 3,4, 5 years, but in the HERE and NOW giving you 24/7/365 coverage over the area or contention in the NE and even with face recognition.

The SU25 is out of production since the 1990s, you would not buy a aircraft that might run out spare parts in the next decade.

There are readily available rebuilds. Recently I posted a Su 25 in the 2008 Georgia war with starboard engine blown out- it still managed to RTB!?

Good arguments, sound reasoning all destroyed by this bit about Wing Loong. Wing Loongs don't replace the flexibility and accuracy of the A29.

The flight cost differentials between A29 and F16s are template costs. Those differentials carry over whether you are paying your ground crews $1m or $50.0. The differentials are coming from fuel, pre-flight maintenance, compulsory inspections regime in-between flights and OEM support. Some people would also depreciate the capital cost over the life of the aircraft and add those costs on it.

This is where it gets interesting : &$85m F16 to shoot precision missiles on 10 Boko Haram in a technical. The technical is N10m, the guns are stolen or captured, say N5m, the worth of the 10 Boko Haram is say minus $5000.00.
I would take the A29 any day. The systems on it at least in ground attack are the same as F16 Block 50. I can use the same aircraft for border patrol, pipeline inspections, SAR, geo spatial surveys, crime fighting, bandits tracking et. c.
The F16 is a rubbish budget buster. They won't even allow you to use the offensive systems so what's the point?.
Nigeria is also buying JF17s to do the regional security, power projection and strategic stuff. We are buying right.

This! Thank you sir! I rmbr nemesis8u mentioned this and for this reason advocated for a twin turbo like an OV 10 or Argie Pucara with a heavy twin barrel under the fuselage of 23mm or even 30mm providing on recoil mitigation could HANDLE it.
It was to be 360 degree capable and 180 degree capable on vertical axis to be handled by copilot via camera.

COUNTER-INSURGENCY: CAS PLAYS HOST TO SENATOR FOR BORNO SOUTH AT AIR TASK FORCE HEADQUARTERS IN MAIDUGURI

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, today, 3 July 2020, played host to the Senator representing Borno South, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, at the Headquarters, Air Task Force (HQ ATF), Operation LAFIYA DOLE in Maiduguri. The Senator was at the HQ ATF to identify with the NAF on the successes recorded in recent subsidiary air interdiction operations targeting terrorists’ locations in the North East, particularly Operation LONG REACH I, which was conducted from 16 - 27 June 2020, and the ongoing Operation LONG REACH II, which commenced on 2 July 2020. The Senator, who was conducted on a tour of some operational facilities at the HQ ATF, used the occasion to appreciate the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF’s) efforts at launching such massive air campaigns that have further degraded the capacity of the insurgents in North East, whilst also sustaining the onslaught against armed bandits in the North West of the Country.

Also with the CAS, who has been Maiduguri to oversee the conduct of Operation LONG REACH II, are the Chief of Training and Operations, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) James Gwani; Chief of Aircraft Engineering, AVM Musibau Olatunji; Chief of Logistics, AVM Mohammed Yakubu as well as Directors from HQ NAF.
