Road rage albeit wrong, we have at one point in time engaged or witness one or two. Come in and share your experience.
Re: Road Rage: Share Your Experience by banky3w(m): 2:42pm On Jul 05, 2020
I shared this on nairaland sometimes ago.
Mine was around Oct 2015 along Lokoja-Abuja expressway. Was going to Kaduna with a tokunbo 2001 camry from Lagos. I drive very fast and safely.

I saw this lone flashy Prado with Niger state government house number plate and tried dusting the car as the driver seems not official..... Casually dressed....... The guy saw me from his high place in the Jeep and started matching my speed we were side-by-side when we got to a town along the road with rampant motorcyclists.

I was on the speed lane and he was on the other side when I saw that a motorcyclist was on his lane ahead and thought I will lose him when he brakes but to my horror, the guy started navigating into my lane while pushing me into the little side space before the road separator with my horn blazing and my brakes crunching on the road. I was so close to having an accident that day, my mirror even scratched the separator. I was scared shitless but this fear transformed into raw fury immediately and after escaping this ordeal, I gunned the engine and overtook the Jeep to get in front and sped forward with him in hot pursuit to meet another car on his lane(all this while I was watching my rear view mirror) and he switched to my lane. Not minding what will happen to my rear, I took this moment to have my sweet revenge by slamming real hard on my brakes with both legs(something I never did before).

I watched him swerve madly behind both cars and almost running off the road with his brakes screeching and navigating to the sidewalk. I really thought the Jeep would roll over and thankfully, we were clear of where the motorcyclists were plenty or else he would have killed people that day.

I resumed my drive while the guy fell behind and I never saw him again till I got home in kaduna. In all my years of driving, I've never been more scared of my any incident both the one done to me or the one I did. I satisfied my rage notwithstanding.

I don't engage in road rage. It's needless, it's risky. Safety first, safety always!

Sometimes, some people just piss you off.
Last year en-route to ebonyi, I overtook a Honda baby boy. The driver for some reason decided he was having none of it and decided to run me off the road. There was no pothole, there was no on coming traffic. It was just sheer wickedness. I was carrying my family. I was mad. If I had not anticipated his moves, I'd have ended up in the bush.
I recovered, gunned it and crossed him at a police check point.

I was deflated when I realised it was a middle aged man.
I rained curses on him.
The policemen settled the matter and we went on our merry way or so I thought.
This dude started tailing me. grin
I made a few calls and led him towards the police station. When I slowed down to spring the trap, he realised his folly, reversed and disappeared.
grin
He got lucky. Lane violation makes me mad and Nigerians are so freaking fond of it. They just can't maintain lanes. sad

With your Toyota Camry 2001 model, you were no match with the Toyota Prado Jeep.

While on the road, it is safety first for me.

I fishtailed a 33000L tanker with kia picanto when it tried to run me off the road grin, driver didn't stop so I chased him to traffic at Ibafo, the driver ran away but the motor boy I apprehended chop 5 slaps from me and shit in his pants. I just went my way when the mob pitied the boy more than I.

It ended in a police man in convoy levelling up with me, threatening to shoot me forcing me to stop, and then I did took the key and ran out of the car.

They came for the key and when they didn't find it in the ignition or get me they deflated my tires.

It started with them cutting in from of me in front of one of the several checkpoints along Shagamu.

I kept a small space for maneuver of something wrong happens to the vehicle in front of me.

Today, I'd let it go.

I lost a lot of time, some money replacing the valve they destroyed and got into Lagos much later than I had planned.

They ran away when a flash mob formed and wanted to intervene,

They knew it would escalate very quickly.

Don't ever try it on a less than 3/4 tank.

If not that my tank was around 1/4, they wouldn't have caught up with me.

I was ready to redline the speedo to Lagos but I needed a full tank of gas to ensure I can do so without any worries.

They caught up with me when I did a turn to refuel by that Total petrol station around Ore.

Mine was quite scary, I was just driving home on a quiet evening around 5pm, it was within the town.
I saw a 2005 Corolla behind me on double pointer, he was trying to overtake me on a single lane, I didn’t give him much attention until he overtook me and signalled to me with his left hand that come on I can do better, my spirit went high I put on my double pointer also, I overtook him within few minutes, I hit on d accelerator twice (Toyota nitro boost grin) and didn’t look black to check on him until I got close to my house junction, I reduced my speed to play small with small cos I know the road very well, on a single lane, all I just did was to check through my side mirror and block him on any side he was trying to overtake me, he didn’t mind overtaking me on the pedestrian lane, cos he was desperate, I made sure I blocked him from overtaking at normal speed, having it in mind that he dare not hit my car. Not until he saw some space on my left handside, he quickly took his chance, I wanted to cover up d lane, but thank God I didn’t, cos he would have hit another vehicle from the traffic on the other lane.

Can the 2001 Camry do 180km/hr sir? If yes, what if the Prado driver don’t want to do more than 160km/hr? Will I be a match in my 2001 Camry if this is the case? Besides, the Camry was in a good condition as it was just brought in Toks

As I do remember too ( don’t know if this counts as road rage sha). In a hold up in town, one guy was trying to prove being a smart driver by pulling his very neat Honda civic hatchback (Hausa boys likes keeping their small cars extremely neat in and out, like it was a cult or something back then) into the little space by my side trying to force me to give way for him. [Unknowing to him, it was that same day I had paid for panelbeating and painting of my car as my guys do borrow my car a lot those days and the car is becoming too rough for my liking due to the scratches on the car and I had was driving the car home because I hate the level of discomfort in public transport so the panelbeater can come pick up the car the following day]. I knew I was supposed to stop for the guy but he just threw his face the other way feigning ignorance as if he didn’t do anything, I refused to give up my space and I felt it immediately our cars touched and he looked at me, I just threw my face the other side too and scratched the whole length of his car for the few meters I had space in front of me while grinning ear to ear grin grin. The guy jumped out of his car very surprised to survey the damage while saying ’Guy nawa oh, you for give me chance naa’. I just throwey face. I hate people who claim like say na them smart pass.

I was driving the other day and this guy in front of me just doesn't want to move his car fast enough, on a speed lane ooo. The road was so free and I was in a hurry to move past him before traffic starts building up. He was driving so slow, nonchalant in the middle of the road and was having fun marching his brakes at will and unnecessaryly.. I was behind him blasting my horn so I could alert him to stay on a lane, to him, i don't exist.. he was doing what he was doing and was already causing slight traffic..

Guess what! He was operating his phone, I think he was answering a phone call or trying to call someone..

As I drove beside him to finally overtake him, I found out what he was doing then my rage increased. I just threw the can water I had at him and zoomed off (his windows were down so the water got to him well).

I watched him from the side mirror shouting and making angry gestures but I was already far gone..

Yes, the Camry can do 180km/hr.

The next question is purely based on assumption. What if the Prado driver was willing to even do more than 160km/hr? Do you think it's a feat the Prado Jeep cannot do?

What I’m trying to make you understand my is that irrespective of the car in question, the most important factor is the driver. There are some people that cannot handle speed or people that have a speed threshold that unless it’s a life and death issue, they won’t pass their limit. I know my 4 cylinder Camry isn’t a match for a V8 Prado but if I’m willing to do even 160-180km/hr in my Camry and the prado driver sees 140km/hr as overspeeding, I would have the prado for breakfast.

You cannot rule out the condition of the car. It is as important as the state of mind of the man behind the wheels.

With this your statement, I GIVE UP! I know your type.

So a Honda cannot pass a Ferrari on the road if the Ferrari is just cruising with the top down and the driver taking in the scenery and the Honda doing redline for whatever reason just because the Ferrari is a fast car by your logic.

Give up already. Does it look like I care....?

I pointed out that your Camry 2001 model was no match for the Prado Jeep, you twisted your argument.

Again, you downplayed the condition of the car in question, emphasizing on the state of mind of the driver. I pointed out the condition of the car is just as important as the state of the driver.

If you have issues with understanding simple grammar, it isn't my fault.

***Modified***

By the condition of the car, I do not necessarily mean the make and model of the car. If the car is not well maintained, even if the driver is a speed demon, he cannot perform magic on the road.

Looking at it from another angle, why would I want to stress my 1.8L/2.0L engine car with a Benz C 350 for instance?

I did what I said I did. If it was you that was driving the prado Please do come tell me. I don’t know why you have an issue with what I experienced.

I downplayed the condition of the car blah blah blah........ I like your sense of being entitled to my explanation like I owe you one......... Please continue grin grin

I have experienced a Honda city 2005 or so trying to beat me in an Avalon and while toying with him, I saw he was driving dangerously and I had to stylishly let him pass and keep pulling ahead. Was the city a match for the Avalon? Did he win?

If you feel the Camry was no match for a Prado, na you sabi as it is your own opinion and you’re entitled to it.

If you have issues with simple comprehension, that isn’t my fault either.
