Tell him loudly.

I paid N200k equivalent every month as rent while living overseas ( US to be precise)and that was btw mid and late 2000s. My friends back home were paying half of that yearly in a fairly good location in lagos as rent. No place like Nigeria. He would would live large with that money and package as a single guy.

And risk harassment from bitter neighbors and ignorant and corrupt law enforcement officers. This is a serious concern for people who do remote work in Nigeria.

If he's that skilled, then he wouldn't need to worry about being fired. Better advise him to get the f***k out while he can.

A quick question I want to ask and know hearts of peeps.

I have a badass programmer pal. Full stack engineer. Recently did a job for someone, and made some real good cash. Like up to $120,000. The money came from building software for 3 microfinance banks in the country.
He earns over 450,000 Naira as salary here in Nigeria as well. We got talking yesterday and he's telling me he cannot stay in Nigeria, that he's resigning immediately after lock down for airports are over.

His argument is 450,000 Nigerian Naira equals
1,162.97 United States Dollar, wheras in the US / Canada for instance, the salary is way higher.

Question is what do you think ?
Dude i earn a million a month.

I would leave this country in a heart beat.

This is not even a question

even at that i can categorically tell you that they do not (will not) pay more than $120,000 per annum for entry - senior level especially considering he is a black developer except of course he is the genius.

And if you check well $120,000 is not much of a money over there.

An average Nigerian man that start with $120k yearly in a new country is literally okay... He progress definitely as he gain more foreign experience

You haven't experienced the other world, why wont you say that? 5k$ to 500k? You must be joking
You definitely haven't experienced the other side going by this. His comparison is in regard to economy. Taxes, bills for heater, gas, utility, and AC, alongside car mortgage would suck 5000$ down to approximately 3000$. You earn in dollars and you pay in dollars over there. Rent is paid per month as well. You apparently do not know how expensive the other side is. I went for an academic conference sometimes last year, got into a barbing saloon only to hear bills of 100$ (equivalent of 27,000+ in naira); I needed no one to tell me before leaving. Do not for once make the mistake of comparison based on figures alone; you'd be shocked.

A programmer can earn that as a starter. Remember, he has the experience already so hes not an entry level candidate but an experienced one.
He's not experienced. Your experience has no relevance so far you're not trained in their system. A professor left here for Canada couple of years ago only to end up driving forklift for a living despite the number of publications. So far you're not trained in their educational system or have any similar working experience in the same, you're only entitled to menial and non-professional jobs. I'm exclusively speaking for Canada.

Anyway, if he must take up loan to return to school, he should try venturing into a field that is very relevant in Canada, so as to have greater chance of landing great pay in Canada.
Return to Nigeria to do what? He already left his high-paying job and have probably cut all financial ties (sold stocks and shares); besides, the shame that accompanies it. It's better persevering to the end from my perspective

The problem with that professor is lack of work permit. That's the problem most who wake up overnight and travel abroad always encounter. The initial obstacle like work permit, health insurance will pose a some inconvenience,. After facing the reality and struggling to adjust, they must now begin to hatch a plan of integrating into the system. Some go into contract marriage in other to get citizenship.

I thought Donald suspended it till the end of the year? Regarding your last statement, they came in legally or illegally? They studied in US' universities or continued using Nigerian degrees?

Define legally and illegally? We have several legal options, tourist, student, greencard and work visa but tourist and student visa can quickly change from legal to illegal if you overstay or don't maintain the required conditions. Nigerian degrees are basically useless, more schooling/certifications is needed to even get an average professional job as a fullstack developer.

First tell your friend to leave the country
The country is not safe for anybody
Nothing is proper here.

One reason why I am leaving this country now is because every young boy doing well now is tagged a yahoo boy.

My friend who we trade forex together was arrest because the Nigerian police don’t even know what forex is. The more my friend was explaining the more the policemen kept calling him a yahoo boy. He had to pay them before they let him go. Can u imagine such rubbish.

Oboy if u can leave this country, go to a place where racism isn’t too much. Even in Nigeria there is tribal/religious indifferences.

Now here in Benin City, if u are a yahoo boy u are not safe, if you are doing legit hustle u are not safe.
This is similarly of concern to me. They're illiterates and no nothing. If I would be leaving the country, a major reason would be the one you cited. So far your phone gets checked and they see any transaction in dollars, you automatically get tagged a yahoo boy regardless of your explanation.

Your reality is not another person's reality. Information is key!!!

Please note.... i am an accountant and i work in a CPA firm. I do taxes for individuals and corporations.

You absolutely do not have a clue of what you are talking about. Bank of America just increase employees wages to minimum of $20 per hour. Banking sector is the least paying cooperate sector in America except you are executives. The problem about NL advice is people who are yet to get into a plane will tell you how to live your life in UK and US.

You people will just openly vomit your ignorance here. $20 per hour minimum wage does not apply to every workers in the bank. A minimum wage is meant for the least qualified employee and at $20 per hour, it's a dream job even for Nigerian graduate. With that amount, a worker who put in 8 hour per day will earn 160 use. That's over 40 thousand naira per day and close to 1.2 million naira per month. This for a least qualified employee. Tell me a bank that pay graduate 250 k in Nigeria.
