CHAPTER EIGHTEEN


Rowland smiled and grinned from ear to ear as he watched his wife sign the divorce papers. Present as witness were his in-laws, the lawyer and his (Rowland) best friend, Jack.


"Are you sure about this?" Jack asked him again, for the umpteenth time since the day he had served his wife the divorce papers.


"Am sure, Man. Let her go so that someone that can bear me children can come in" he nodded.


"This signing is not reversible, I hope you know that?" Jack asked again.


"I know, and i won't regret a thing" he replied firmly.


"All signed, now" his wife said, shifting the papers to the lawyer to go through.


"All good, then. You are no longer husband and wife. Since there is no Alimony, your properties won't be splitted, everyone get their original properties" he covered the file and turned to Rowland "Your Father in-law said he is taking his house back"


"He can go ahead and take it, i can buy my own house" he scoffed.


"Okay, then, my work is done, i will be heading out now" he stood up, shook hands with the men and left.


"You will never get a good woman like me" his wife thundered.


"Who told you? so you think you are a good woman? what is good about a woman that can't give her husband children? how funny you sound right now?" he gave her a scornful look.


"I won't stand here and watch you insult my daughter, how dare you?" his mother in-law barked charging towards him.


"Mom please let him go, he doesn't worth a fight from us. I will survive this, am a strong woman" his wife said, holding her mother, restraining her from getting close to Rowland.


"You have just 10 minutes to pick your things and vacate this house" his father in law said, calmly.


"Of course i will leave your house" Rowland chuckled climbing the stairs to their bedroom.








Daniel stood outside waiting for Bari to arrive. It was the retirement party for the Head doctor at The Save A Life Hospital and everyone was expected to come with a date. He stared at his wrist watch and kept his gaze at the entrance of the hotel. He sighed, it was almost a month since they started dating and he was yet to tell her the one secret that always weakened the Man in him.


"Doctor Daniel" Lina called out to him, making him jolt.


"Lina" he called out softly, after he had turned to know who called. "You look great, i like your gown" he added, staring at the gate, again.


"Thanks. what are you doing out here when the party has began already?" she asked walking towards him.


"Oh yeah, i know the party has began, i am waiting for my date, she is yet to arrive" he sighed.


"Your date? you invited someone to the party?" she blinked her lashes.


"My girlfriend. I have been calling her on phone but she is not picking up" he shrugged.


"Your girlfriend? how?" she asked, raising her brows at him.


"My girlfriend, the lady that am dating" he chuckled before adding "By the way didn't you come with someone?"


"No, i didn't. I don't have anyone to come with" she replied angrily.


"Oh, here she comes" Daniel sighed in relief as he sighted Bari, walking into the hotel premises.


"Who? the skinny lady? is she your girlfriend?" she asked.


"Yes, she is" Daniel replied with a smile and turned almost immediately to Bari, who had gotten to where they stood. "What kept you and what happened to your phone?" he asked.


"There was traffic jam and my phone was in my bag, i didn't hear it ring. Good evening" Bari muttered, giving him a hug.


"Okay. yea, meet Lina, she is a nurse and she helps me a lot. Lina, meet Bari, my woman" he smiled.


"Hello, nice to meet you" Bari smiled shaking hands with the nurse.


"Let's go inside, then" Lina said, walking back to the hall where the party was taking place.


Daniel held Bari on her waist as they entered the hall buzzing with loud songs blasting from the speaker. A waiter passed with a tray of wine poured in glass cups, Daniel picked two for himself and his date.


"Baby, can you see the guy on blue shirt?" he asked pointing at someone who was engrossed in his dance. "That is doctor Stanley, the one i told you about that is also a veteran surgeon" he Bent down and made sure his mouth was close to her ear. Bari only nodded and sipped her wine. Few minutes after, she gave Daniel her wine and dipped her hand in her bag bringing her phone out.


"I will be right back, Chioma is calling and i need to take this call" She shouted making sure he heard her before she walked out.




She walked a bit far from the hall before dialing Chioma's number, she placed the phone on her ear and spoke almost immediately "Hello, babe" silence and then "Don't worry, i got here safely. I will give you a call once i get back home" she waited for some seconds before hanging up. She turned to walk back to the party when someone stood in her front, preventing her from leaving.


"Oh, it's you?" she smiled at her.


"What are you doing with Daniel? she asked, looking irritated.


'I don't really understand your question" Bari replied, looking confused.


"I was with Daniel when his ex girlfriend left him and he was heartbroken, i pushed him through and made him forget her, hoping that he would one day, tell me how he feels about me, then you appeared from no where" she hissed.


"Isn't it obvious that he doesn't want you? judging from the fact that he left you and came for me"


"That's because you came in and distracted him. You know nothing about Daniel. I know a lot about him that he won't even think of telling you in the nearest future" she smirked.


"Okay, i think i need to leave now, have a nice evening" she replied walking away, Leaving the nurse dumbfounded.
