Nigeria Is Too Noisy; How To Deal With Lousy Christian Neighbour by Nobody: 3:21pm On Jul 11, 2020
My Christian neighbour is currently having a choir rehearsal in his apartment right now, this is what he does on weekends. Playing electric piano while his wife and church members sings to it. My room is adjacent his parlour so it's like he is playing it right inside my own room cry
It's been few years since he moved in with his wife and two kids and ever since I hardly ever sleep without their morning devotion intruding my sleep.
This woman prays on top of her voice like they live solely in the compound, I even have a recording of one of her sessions from two weeks back. I really dont know how to deal with this.
I sleep early sometimes and because of that I tend to wake up around the time their morning devotion will kick start, and I dont get to sleep again afterwards.
God didnt ask us to disturb our neighbours with prayers, it is called hypocrisy in the bible.
I have not said anything over the years so I wont be seen as an anti christ in some sort of way. Every morning na "die by fire" "announce their obituary"
And when she isnt praying or playing electric piano, other noise from neighbourhood no go let person ear rest. Noise pollution is really a thing in this country, except you can afford to live in a really quite estate.
For a quite person like me this is one of valid reasons to to want to relocate outside this country, to a saner clime. No noise from generator, or grinding machine, or a random CD seller jamming a song to attract customers, or religious houses blasting away from their megaphone, the list is endless

This is Nigeria, there is nothing you can do other than relocating to a preferred environment....if you start making issues with them it won't make them stop, you'll be seen as a witch that get disturbed by their prayers....so move out and find a better place.

Don't mind the noise makers. They are not following the Bible. Many are not.

But you, when you pray, go into your room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place. And your Father who sees in secret shall reward you openly. “And when praying, do not keep on babbling like the nations. For they think that they shall be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Mattithyahu (Matthew) 6:6‭-‬8

Where I live is silent, when I pray, I don't even shout because I am my brother's keeper, I know I would disturb. My neighbors, sometimes when I get carried away, I reduce the tempo, if I wan fire, common sense will tell me to go to mountain top.

The thing is, some people see all those Paparazzi has making them holy or better than others and sadly, na scam. There is a difference between religion (all religions) and Knowing one's maker. Christianity is a religion that has diluted the knowledge of Men.

No vex.

You don't know them at all !!!
Sometimes I wonder why Europeans brought religion to Africa ...or if this is what they taught us ...even the Europeans speak organised tongues , and not all the time , but nigerians sing their own tongues on the way to the bathroom , so the neighbors would think they are fire brand ....
This is my advice .
Go tell them their noisy day to day show is disturbing you and your kids peace ..they'll call you witch probably ogbanje ..they'll even give your testimony in the church ...that their God is fighting their enemies....
Brace yourself and tell them if they do not reduce their voice while praying to a God that is not deaf , you'll report them to the necessary authorities for noise pollution ....
If they still refuse ..thank God the Nigerian police are very cheap and stupid with 15 k you'll get them arrested even if its one night , when they get back , after paying bail , nobody would tell them to use their dormant brains ...
Mad people every where !!!

This is not the solution.

They should be cautioned to reduce their noise.

What if the OP cannot afford to move now?

No, he needs to talk to his landlord.
If you want to pray loudly, build your own house and stop discomforting other tenants.

Bros if your landlords does nothing, arrange with your friends and play some tricks. Let your friends visit you at late evenings with black gowns and you guys should be singing incoherent songs during the visit. Do this for one month and see your neighbors look for another apartment.

Since your inconsiderate neighbors want madness, give them double.

I remember when I was in school then, our next door neighbours(couples life) would put their gen right beside our own room, super annoying, we go sleep for bed and still be shaking from vibration from the gen.
There was a day the gen was turned in such a way that the fume was coming right into our room. I was about to sleep and feeling uncomfortable, I had to go and ask her whether she wants to kill me for my parents cheesy

The most outstanding verse to me is Romans 12:2. Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.

The most painful part is these prayer warriors see everything as working against them. Seeing 'strong men' everywhere hindering their progress, and once they step out of their houses, the way they behave and talk, you will be asking yourself if their Christianity begins and ends in their rooms.

I once told my younger sister to recall the past lives of our aunties while we were growing up and watch their present lives and choose whom she will like to be and try to imitate what they used to do while we were younger. Non of us chose the prayer warriors, because they are still fighting those same battles 30 years after.

Generally, Nigerians are too noisy.

Even a decent looking girl on a date will converse loudly like a street man who is trying his best to defend himself from false accusation before the angry mob.

Nonetheless, it is not comfortable for you so you should tell him first. If no improvement, bring it to the knowledge of the landlord and if they refuse to change at that point, I am not sure what the legal provision is but I am sure there will be something you can do legally.
Re: Nigeria Is Too Noisy; How To Deal With Lousy Christian Neighbour by Unnerve: 5:03pm On Jul 11, 2020
If you complain at this point, no one will take you serious.

They have been your neighbours for years, and been like that since they moved in.

People who can't stand something usually speak up as soon as it is done or very early in the process & not let it continue for years. It gives the perpetrators the feeling that you don't mind, or that you mind but you're a pushover who can't speak up.

Sorry, but keep being the nice unbothered undisturbed unprovoked neighbour that you've been so far, they will move out soon to their own house.
Perhaps the loud prayer sessions and choir practice worked for them. Lol

@ rockstarB,

I smiled when reading your post because I am facing the same sort of issue and I live in a serene/quiet estate. Or rather I used to, until the current neighbours moved in. Sighs! undecided

It's not so much about where you live, it is more about the caliber of people you have as neighbours. Where you live can make a world of difference but if the orientation and upbringing of your neighbours was a poor one, you will still suffer consequences.

My current neighbours, are loud, noisy and unruly. From the parents to the children, if the mother is not singing at the top of her voice while playing songs on her phone, she is answering calls on speaker phone and talking very loudly. Everything she is does is in a loud fashion. Two of the children can wake the dead from sleep, with their ear piercing screams/cries. The father is no better, he is also loud and condescending, when husband and wife start quarreling, I practically feel like entering the ground.

They shout at each other and say nasty things. I didn't grow up around parents who yelled at each other when angry or when having a normal conversation, so when I hear them I feel very unsettled on the inside. What's worse they do this shouting in front of their kids, even the neighbours on the left and right hand sides of our own building can also hear them.

Prior to them moving in, I enjoyed a lot of peace and quiet, as well as a very clean compound. I lost both things from the moment they moved in, they were supposed to move out this July, unfortunately covid has extended their plan to December. I felt slightly depressed when I heard this, they are not bad people but they are not thoughtful or considerate of others or the need for some peace/quiet. I am eager for them to move out.

They are a well to do family, the husband works with one of the IOCs, but I have learnt from observing them, that money cannot fix a poor upbringing or orientation for people who are fully grown. There's just no substitute for these things.
Lol

I don't trust such people. Some.of them pray but they are terrible people. That's how my sister's neighbours pray like the devil is after them.

Their intense prayer life didn't stop them from tapping light from my sister's flat and sending their son to steal fuel from their gen. Meanwhile they can pray and do church service in their house as if they are good people.
