michlins:Fantastic, just fantastic. Frm what i know people who refer to themselves as nsukka cover seven LGA in enugu. That's roughly over half of the state LGA. It jus' kinda weird to group so many ndigbos as igala, prolly as a result of meagre traces of igala names such as idoko and asogwa, which may nt even be up to 2% of it's actual population. 9 Likes |

michlins: Please stop this ignorance. No scientific, genetic or anthropological or philological evidence that Benin are closer to Yoruba. The absence of a major natural barrier comparable to River Niger on the West side made human and cultural flow inwards and outwards on the west side of Edo way easier than on the East side. Recent studies show some similarities in Yoruba & some Esan people BUT not in Benin people. A Yoruba person put the link on this culture section sometime ago. While people like me have a proudly dual Benin & Yoruba heritage, Benin people generally are not inherently closer to Yoruba than they are to Igbo. People must remember that Benin City still has a higher population of Igboid/Anioma people than Yoruba. Statewide, Yoruboid Ado-Akure people in Edo still won't seriously outnumber Igboid people. Benin, Igbo, Yoruba and many tribes along the Southern side of West Africa including Ewe, Gbagyi, Nupe & Fon people belong to this East Kwa/Volta-Niger/West Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo group linguistically. People actually spend careers of 35 to 50 years studying these things. Travelling, studying and researching both historical and contemporary realities. Not sit somewhere and spew ignorantly parroted assumptions. I have met so called educated Igbo calling Edo people Yoruba. I have also met Yoruba who would claim over education and sophistication saying anyone after Ore is Igbo. Some are over 60 years old even in diaspora. 8 Likes |

michlins: Zik lived in the West/Lagos but he never lived in Edo. Zik's grandmother told him the history of Ezechima, their Benin ancestor. The same way someone whose great great great great parents migrated to America centuries back would be told the family story. I believe everyone is best placed to tell own family story. But it won't make them authorities on other tribes, unless they spent their lives objectively and scientifically researching the subject. 4 Likes |

michlins: Your forefathers from nsukka are Igalas and Benins and not Nnewi or Onitsha by any means. Reverse migration is not history. Even someone from nsukka who has no origin will come here to tell igbos where they are from. Remain with that your history in nsukka and Enugu state precisely. Such hogwash is not needed in anambra state. 5 Likes |

The way some people are hell bent on balkanizing/dilapidating ndigbo and alaigbo in general by creating identity crisis is fvckin' amazing. Suddenly, everyone knows a thing or two about some sub-igbo clan migrational history. If you as an nsukka man see urself as igala not igbo speak for you and your family alone.. but do not ever ever ever try to create identity crisis amongst ndi nnewi again, where our ancester come from truly and absolutely does'nt matter, for all i care 800 yrs ago some present day nigerian ancestor's could have been some bush men in south africa or dark skinned negro in some where in east africa. My point is that we as ndigbo may nt share the same origin but the binding force allover alaigbo is we share the same culture, the same language albeit dialetical difference, the same tradition, we have the same competitive spirit, domineering atitude (in a good sense), and we are very resilient these are the trait that makes us all proud ndigbos 17 Likes 2 Shares |

michlins: Please, stop writing these crap. It hurts the eyes to read. Anthropological evidence shows Igbo is ancient to Bini. Oga, go drink garri And , please , stop being unnecessarily confident of of what you know nothing about. Nnewi is related to their immediate neighbors like Ichi , Oraifite, Amichi , Ichida who migrated north of their present location from Isu homestead. 15 Likes 1 Share |

To me being igbo transcend beyond your origin it's an atitude, it's a movement, it's a way of life, it's my culture, it's my religion. I've seen igbo kids that despise being igbo (mainly bi-ethnic esp. when the mum is'nt igbo and they aren't too close to their dad.) On the other hand i have seen kids that love being igbo with passion. Lastly. we ndi nnewi we see ourselves as full fledged. full blooded, full stacked NDIGBOS. AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTER WHAT YOU THINJ OF URSELVE. EOD. 9 Likes |
