CHAPTER TWENTY


She held the bottle of water tightly in her hand as she stood at the junction, waiting for her number one enemy. She chuckled, as her eyes scanned everyone as they passed. She checked her wrist watch "6:05pm, she is supposed to be on her way home by now" she muttered slightly. Few shops away, she saw her walking towards the junction, she stared at her in disgust and wondered how it would be if she broke her into two. She watched her draw nearer and nearer until she was almost a meter close to her, she opened the can of water and with a wicked grin, splashed it on her.


"Bari, look out" someone shouted running towards the skinny lady.


"How dare you pour water on her?" the man asked, angrily matching to where she stood. She turned to stare at the skinny lady who had started crying helplessly and scratching her body, her bag thrown on the floor.


"Rowland, please, search in my bag, you will see a cream in a tube, help me with it" she sniffed as she scratched.


"So, it's true?" she scoffed "When i stumbled on your file in Daniel's office and saw that you have aquagenic Pruritus, i wanted to see for myself and i must really commend you for a great show" she chuckled.


"I will come to you later" Rowland growled at her after he had helped Bari with the cream. She applied the cream on her body, hoping it would bring instant relief to her, just like Daniel had told her.


"Who the hell do you think you are?" Bari asked, landing a heavy slap on her assaulter, immediatly she had gotten herself.


Did you just slap me?" she asked, looking around, when she saw that people had started gathering, she kept quiet.


"Believe me i would have beaten the living daylight out of you, but trust me, i don't want to create a scene because i condescended so low to deal with you, you are a disgrace to womanhood" she spat out walking away.


"Let me take you home, please. you can't go like this" Rowland said, turning to stare at Bari.


"Thanks for your help, but don't get ideas in your head, i can take myself home" Bari eyed him before walking away.


"Who are you?" the lady asked Rowland.


"I should be asking you, how did you know about her sickness?" Rowland asked, staring at the people that gathered, he assured them that everything was fine, they dispersed.


"From the hospital where i work as a nurse. Are you going to answer my question now or not?" she sneered.


"She is my ex, but i want her back, by all means" he shrugged.


"Well that makes us even. You want her and i want Daniel, let us work together to ensure we reach our goals" she grinned.


'Who is Daniel?" Rowland asked.


"The person your ex is dating now who happens to be someone i love" she hissed.


"Wow, I really think we need each other" Rowland grinned wickedly.


"exactly. Am Lina" she smiled, extending her hands for a handshake.


"you can call me Rowland" he smiled.








Bari stared blankly at the TV, in her living room. she had her head placed on Daniel's chest as they watched the match together. She anxiously waited for the end of the match, even though she had staked a certain amount of money in favour of the club playing against Manchester United, she couldn't still concentrate.


"Goalll" Daniel screamed happily, startling her. "I will eat somebody's money today" he laughed throwing his head backwards.


"Has it come to an end?" she asked taking her head off Daniel's chest.


"Don't tell me you have not been watching, of course it has ended and guess what sweety? it was 2_1, better give me my money" he chuckled.


"I want to talk to you, Daniel" she muttered.


"Is everything okay?" he asked.


"Is there something you are not telling me? like something i need to know"


"Why did you ask?"


"Just answer me, please. If there is anything, let me know, i promise not to judge you" she gave him a reassuring smile.


"Am sorry, i didn't mean to do it. it was a mistake and i have never stopped regretting it till now" he covered his face and sighed.


"What is it? tell me" she urged him on.


"I killed someone, a few months ago, i swear it was a mistake, i was careless and then it happened"


"You don't look like a killer to me, how did it happen?"


"It was the day my ex girlfriend had sent me her wedding invite, i was preparing to go to the theatre for a cesarean operation on a pregnant woman. When i saw her message, i was shattered and heartbroken. I was supposed to report to the hospital authorities and let another doctor handle the operation, but i didn't, instead i went ahead with it and made so many mistakes which led to her death. That was the only time i had a failed operation and it was all because of my carelessness. I still remember the lady and how she pleaded with me to save her life, but she died, i killed her" he muttered twisting his face in pain.


"Am so sorry" she said, pushing his head to her chest while caressing his back. "Listen to me, it was a mistake, don't punish yourself too much for it, let it go. You didn't intentionally kill her, it was a mistake that any doctor could have made" she consoled.


"But i shouldn't have handled the surgery with a broken heart, I can't stop regretting my action" he whimpered.


"Did the hospital authorities find out? what did they do?"


"No other person apart from Lina knows. She was in the theatre with me that day, the other two nurses didn't know because they were not too experienced" he cooed.


"I don't like the fact that Lina knows this, she spells trouble" she hissed.


"Not to worry, she is not a bad person"


"Well she attacked me yesterday, i don't know who told her that i hate water because she splashed water on me yesterday" she rolled her eyes.


"She did what?" he thundered raising his voice slightly.


"I handled it already, let's forget it" she shrugged.


"Why will she do that to you? is she crazy?" he growled.


"Maybe she is, let's keep her aside, first. Am glad you told me this, yourself. I wouldn't have forgiven you if i had gotten it from someone else" she smiled, briefly.


"You are not angry? you are not going to see me as a murderer?" he raised his brows at her.


"No, not at all, you didn't kill her intentionally, stop seeing yourself as a murderer" she caressed his palms.


"Thank you" he muttered, smiling at her. she rolled her eyes.
