@electromagneto and other gurus, I have applied for MSc program at the University Jean Monnet but I want to know of to choose private or university housing as this question is part of the application process. Is CROUS private housing?

Thanks
CROUS is not a private housing. To me, I think CROUS apartment is owned by government or the department where it is situated. In France, there are lots of CROUS apartment everywhere but it's not easy to get apartment in one.

CROUS often give slots to Universities for their students. They also give slots to Campus France for the scholarships they manage. So it's easier to get CROUS apartment through Campus France if you are a scholarship student. Of course, you can apply to other residences, what is very important or most needed for your visa application is the Attestation of Residence showing that you have an apartment either in CROUS, School residence or private residence.

I am sure you applied for residence at the wrong time. Residence for international students begin today 9th July, 2020 according to CROUS website. The residence permit and student card you were asked is because generally it is meant for all European Union students because their applications for accommodation lapsed on 7th July and most of them have already been approved for residence.

I hope you understand - EU student don't need visa, they already have residence permits, and securing a student card would definitely be easy for them that way.

Thanks. I understand

thanks for your reply. The last stage requires me to upload some documents and I do not have these documents, at least not yet. They are Valid student residence permit and student card. this suggests that one cannot complete the application process without those documents. What do you think.
Thanks once again.

Are they obligatory documents to upload? Because while applying, you will be asked to select if you already have a housing or not. It is important to note that Visale is for housing/accommodation guarantee.

I applied last week, and already got the Visale. I can't remember exactly if I uploaded any attestation of residence. I have it but don't know if I uploaded one. Since you don't have student's card, you can upload your admission letter. Also, residence permit for now should be the Visa. If you don't have one yet, then you might have to hold on with the application.

When you get to France for instance without the Visale, your accommodation key can be given to you, however, they won't issue you the attestation of residence without Visale.

thanks.

I had this same issue with VISALE, you need to upload your student visa (if you don’t have a residence permit).

@mrphysics, please how did you applied for Visale successfully? I learnt on its website that Visale is basically for people under 30 years of age, and I am above.

En savoir plus sur les conditions Visale."[b]

so for late reply, we have two type of CROUS actually the private and government owned, the government owned are difficult to obtain except you are french, on scholarship or from campus france but sometime self funded student still get it. while private crous mostly in paris is available to all. one important thing you should have is your visale certificate from visale.fr
Re: Thread For France Prospective Students by electromagnito: 3:38pm On Jul 13, 2020
Prospective student should know that next session will be starting in Novemeber which is a new development due to the COVID-19, most M2 student doing their internship are yet to defend and also they are hoping the extension will give room to student who have not applied for VISA yet to meet up, the first semester will also be online, be prepared.

Hello flyway,

I am not qualified for Visale becos of my age (>30). Also it's difficult finding accommodation in Grenoble. If you've already applied for housing, we can share accommodation together to reduce cost, or what do you think?

Maybe it varies across schools. For my school, we are resuming September 2nd. Lectures start September 3rd. Some departments will resume September 1st. And lectures will hold in the school environment -Physical meeting.

Before now, my school had earlier announced that freshmen or M1 students will resume January 7th, 2021. But start first semester online. But with the recent development in Covid-19 in France, I don't know if they have changed such decision.

I am sorry about that. I haven't experienced or know one that have experienced same issue. You should write Campus France to know your options.

And for shared accommodate, some residences have what they call T1, which is like a room and parlour. So its much easier to share than the studio apartment.
Re: Thread For France Prospective Students by flyway: 8:18am On Jul 14, 2020
Even if we were to share accommodation, you would still need your own accommodation certificate to show at the embassy. As for not qualifying for VISALE, you can use studapart.com (it’s expensive but it takes care of guarantor issues for you). Another option is to talk to landlords on leboncoin and let them know you don’t have a guarantor but they’ll usually want you to pay like 3 months ahead. If you do go this route, you should only pay the caution deposit and then pay the three months rent when you arrive.

Thanks bro.

I will try my best to get that number but its really difficult.

However, my school don't give general grade over 20. It's more like a CGPA thing in my school.
