jamesid29:No, the "world" church you have today is not the same church the disciples were a part of back in the 1st century. That is the point I was making in the comment you jumped in to respond to. Christ was, and is the head of the first and only church that existed when the disciples were still living. However, Christ is not the head of the "world" churches of the Christian world. |

Kobojunkie:Wait, you mean the only church that existed was when Jesus was with the disciples? |
Re: Must Read!!! Why I Don’t attend Church Or Believe Everything In The Bible by Kobojunkie: 6:13am On Jul 14, 2020 |
jamesid29:The Church of Jesus Christ began after Jesus' death and resurrection. After His Ascension, the church came into its own(became capable) with the arrival of the Spirit of God. That Church, headed by Jesus Christ, is the church that belongs to Jesus Christ. Many of the members eventually met horrible fates but that Church remains the Church that belongs to Jesus Christ and is headed by Jesus Christ. |

Kobojunkie:Ok so, the church ended in the first century? |

jamesid29:Christ's church is still marching on... only it is not the visible church, what I call "world church" that you see and know of today as Christianity. |

Kobojunkie:Ok so, in your view, what happened to the community of believers after the apostles died. They all stopped meeting together and everybody went home(their separate ways)? Or Christ stopped being the head because the apostles are dead? |

jamesid29:None of that! |

Kobojunkie:So what happened to them? |
Re: Must Read!!! Why I Don’t attend Church Or Believe Everything In The Bible by Kobojunkie: 6:39am On Jul 14, 2020 |
jamesid29:Those of them who were not killed during the persecution continued to live as Christ commanded them through His Spirit, and work righteousness wherever they found themselves, wherever God sent them. |

Kobojunkie:Ok so, everyone went their separate ways. And you know this how? |
Re: Must Read!!! Why I Don’t attend Church Or Believe Everything In The Bible by Kobojunkie: 6:53am On Jul 14, 2020 |
jamesid29:What separate ways? The Church of Christ is not in a building or organized in a community as you imagine it. Christ is the Head and since His own learn everything from Him, whether alone or among others, they are still a part of His church, the only church that matters. All other representations mean nothing. When the Spirit of God led Phillips away to a foreign land, did he, Philip, abandon the church of Jesus Christ? No, he remained a part of the body of Christ, even with an assignment that took him to a faraway place. The same applied then and now to all members of the Church of Jesus Christ. When Andrew and the others were later sent off to foreign lands, their membership in the church of Jesus Christ did not end, even in foreign lands. The Spirit of Truth went with them, teaching, guiding, helping, comforting and counseling them every step of the way. Though they are separated by distance, they are still part of the body of Christ. Their fellowship is with the very Spirit of God, and they are led and taught by the Spirit of God alone. |
Re: Must Read!!! Why I Don’t attend Church Or Believe Everything In The Bible by jamesid29(m): 7:18am On Jul 14, 2020 |
Kobojunkie:I'm not talking about individuals as part of Christ body. I'm talking about the community of believers that was setup by the apostles to worship, pray, strengthen one another, have the communion together etc. Philip was part of the Jerusalem community and was one of the first deacons of the church. Because of the persecution in Judea the disciples spread out and every where they went, they setup similar communities(churches) and kept in touch with them. We find these in the books of acts and the apostlic letters.(this is the model we still use today in Bible believing churches). You said these churches were disbanded after the death of the apostles and everyone went their separate ways. My question is how did you come to this knowledge? |
Re: Must Read!!! Why I Don’t attend Church Or Believe Everything In The Bible by Kobojunkie: 1:37pm On Jul 14, 2020 |
jamesid29:Jesus Christ came for the individual, not a community. According to the New Covenant that is Jesus Christ, each person bears his burden, not along with a community but alone. So, yes, Jesus Christ never said go join or create community gatherings. As for the so-called community of apostles set up by the apostles, they did not set anything up. They were all hurdled together in a room after Jesus Christ departed because it was safer for them that way. Eventually, after the Spirit of God showed up, they started going out in groups to the temple area to preach to the Jews, guided by the Spirit of God of course who eventually sent them out, even individually locally and to far away lands. jamesid29:During the time they spent in Jerusalem, they set up a sort of welfare system to carry out the work of righteousness as Jesus Christ had appointed them to(Feed my sheep & Take care of my sheep found in John 21 -- more detail of this found in Matthew 25 vs 31-40). This is the work that they set up for, not your "community meetings" and praise and worship sessions that is your world churches today. Yes, the first Christians, following Jesus Christ's commandments, set up and managed the world's first food pantry and welfare system. That is what the community was really about, while the individuals still went out to preach the gospel as Jesus Christ had sent them out to. Jesus Christ called them to serve in righteousness and that is what they set up to do. Stephen, if you remember was made a deacon for exactly that purpose, so he could help the disciples, not so he could have for himself a title as a leader in an organization. They were all servants, not leaders, according to Jesus Christ's commandment. When the Spirit of God was ready to move them, they moved on to the next mission in obedience, but I believe everywhere they went, they carried out works of righteousness, not set up "praise and worship" centers as many like to assume. The apostles didn't even set themselves up as teachers.. they were all servants and equal in all... as they preached only the message of Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone. They lived in submission to the lead of the Spirit of God who kept them all synced in Him i.e. they were in agreement, something you rarely ever find today in Christianity where only the leader gets to say what should be. jamesid29:Oh, He told me, and I read books (the Bible of course) and other books on the history of the church, books I was led to read when I asked the Father why He seemed so against the world church. I went in there trying to find Him, and He kept telling me, He was not there at all... never was. I still remember the very first book he led me to read... it was a book I happened upon while glancing through the shelves at a Salvation army store back when I first started with God. One of the most amazing experiences I ever had. I didn't get to finish reading the entire book because halfway through, I suddenly lost interest in it and He moved me on to another book. |
