Threaten to shut down oil activities in communities

Call for dissolution of NDDC Interim committee

WARRI: TWENTY years after the Ijaw and Itsekiri crisis in Warri, Delta state, the two ethnic groups came under the same roof yesterday to demand a fair deal from the rich oil deposit in their communities.

At a joint press briefing, they threatened to disrupt the free flow of oil exploration activities in their communities in the state if the Federal Government failed to halt bid process for the 57 marginal fields.

They also demanded resumption of work on the abandoned multi-billion-dollar Gas Revolution Industrial Park project, GRIP, and the deep seaport in Warri South-West Local Government Area.

Chief Mike Odeli of Movement for Development of Itsekiri Oil and Gas communities, and Chief Godspower Gbenekema of Ijaw nation, who addressed the media at a mammoth gathering of both ethnic groups in Warri, also called on international oil companies, IOCs, to relocate their headquarters in the country to the region.
They added that the Federal Government should immediately dissolve the Interim Management Committee, IMC, of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, and appoint a substantive board.

The ethnic nationalities further called on the Federal Government to appoint a Coordinator from the Niger Delta region for the Presidential Amnesty Programme, rejecting the committee running the place.

They further enjoined the government to resume work on the abandoned Omadino-Excravos and the Koko-Oghoye Road projects abandoned since the birth of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

The people of Ijaw and Itsekiri added that the government should relocate the Floating Dock/Shipbuilding yard lying fallow outside the state, for use of students of the Nigerian Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko, Warri South-West Local Government Area.

Their statement read in parts: “The Federal Government should order the immediate resumption of work at the multi-billion dollar gas revolution industrial park project, GRIP, and the deep seaport in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State.

“It should immediately halt the current process of bids for the 57 marginal fields to incorporate the interest of competent companies owned by Gbaramatu indigenes as well as Itsekiri sons and daughters from oil and gas-producing communities.

“If not, we will be constrained to shut down the operations of the multinational oil and gas companies operating in our homelands
“The Federal Government should direct the relevant MDAs/IOCS to embark on large scale shore protection/sand filling projects in Itsekiri oil and gas-producing communities and the Gbaramatu Kingdom.

“We demand an immediate and comprehensive investigation into what led to millions of dead and rotten fishes that surfaced on the waterways and fish traps in Gbaramatu Kingdom and coastal Itsekiri communities, intending to carry out the necessary remediation so that the needful can be done for those who have suffered loss or damage

“The IOCs in our lands should apply the local content acts in their employment regime. The Federal Government should instruct Nigerian Port Authority, NPA, through the Ministry of Transportation, to dredge the Excravos bar mouth to enhance the optimum usage of the Warri, Koko, Burutu and Sapele ports in the state.
“We demand immediate constitution of a substantive NDDC board instead of the present Interim Management Committee that lavishly wasted our derivation money on COVID-19 without recourse to the communities that should have had the large chunk of the accrued money to the commission and whose interest are capitally inimical to the development of the Itsekiri oil and gas producing communities and the Gbaramatu kingdom.”

Useless people, we get 13% derivatives from oil, our state govt won't do a single thing with it, we have NDDC, I no know wetin that thing be sef, its as useless as the share button on nairaland, we should also vent our anger on state govt but no, we will sing their praises and vote them again, or we will rather vote them as senators if their tenure as govt don finish. You dont need all the money from oil before u develop, there is a saying that if u can't manage 200k, even if they give u 2million, u still won't manage it
Pls God if I am gonna come back as a Nigerian, pls just forfeit my reincarnation, lemme just go straight to heaven weda my work on earth is done or not, I am not coming back.
As an ijaw breed, as a Niger Deltan, as a Nigerian and as an African, I am ashamed of how my brothers think

Efforts in futile. They are looking for national cake instead to call their leaders ask them what they are doing with federal allocation.

You have amnesty, NDDC and 13% derivatives from oil despite this the masses still subject to poverty.

As long as pdp still control Niger delta affairs no tangible development will come to that area.

However you can't threaten federal government Because it was stated in the constitution that central government are the real owner of land and resources. You have got your share hold your governors accountable.

There's something I know for sure. While we accuse the FG of sidelining the host communities, we should also know that 90% of the leaders of the host communities are thieves.

If you have been with some of these so called leaders forming unity, you'd come to realise that they are just trying to enrich themselves.

Been to such meetings before. They are just aiming for something pricey. At the long run a deal will be struck and they project one of their very own forgetting the youths who are in the forefronts. The commoners will get equal share of poverty same as the youths.

People be wise. Mostly you the youths whom your leaders will call out to go fight for them. 90% of your leaders aren't fighting for you but for themselves. They will have the contracts, money or positions and then enslave you by giving you peanuts. You will think they are doing you good but no, they are not. In fact, when you think you're being positioned, they have another motives.

Most Leaders want you to have same enemies with them but different friends with them. While you struggle with them to create the friendship they are longing for, they'll sideline you just as they are crying now that the FG and IOCs are sidelining them.

Youths Be wise... cool

Thats not the point. The point is that they own the oil and gas, how can you give someone 13% of what they own? I own something, you take 87% of my property and give me 13%. Then to add salt to injury, after cheating out of what I own, you come back to ask me what I did with 13% of what was mine in the first place

the difference between most population of Nigeria and me is that i have no interest anymore on who takes more percentage of oil money, there is always an avenue of making it in life irrespective of where u find urself. Most Nigerians keep fighting because of this oil, it just shows how backward we are and without the oil, we will have no other opportunity to grow. 13% to me is something, what if there is no oil? What abt the agro companies, the finance companies, artificial intelligence, power, food, quantum computers, particle physics research, tokamak magnetic confinement fusion, its not always about oil

bad, i just feel sorri for these people because thier bad leaders are the ones punishing them..
Yar'adua was a good man and he tried to help these people out of pity and all his help and money allocated to improve that region was looted and re looted...
i jus pray that the finally find the light they seek because i see the menace going on there to linger for Years even if a man from that side becomes president...
my elders do say "a group of lions being led by a cat to a battle ground would be defeated against a group of cats being led by a lion"...
better daYs ahead i pray 4 them....it is well..

After 20years, they would have achieved many things if they were united from the onset, always blaming each other for each's failure and greediness.
