You enter a bedroom, there are 34 people.
You kill 30 people. Now how many people are in the bedroom?

So, that's the question. This is a logical reasoning question, not a math formula x + 2 = y question and i guess that's why many people detour from the correct path to the answer.

To answer, I will break it down piece by piece,

1st part: u enter a bedroom
2nd part: there r 34 people
3rd part: u kill 30 people
4th part: how many people in d bedroom

From d analysis above, what concerns d answer is "the people in the bedroom". So we have 2 keywords to solve this riddle: "people" and "bedroom". These r the 2 keywords.

Ok, so let's find out what we know about d bedroom

1st part: says, "you enter a bedroom (comma)"
From this, we know that 1 person is in the bedroom

2nd part: says, "there are 34 people (full stop). It doesn't say there are 34 people in the bedroom. No "and" or "semi-colon" before the "there", and there is no "in" or "inside" the room in the statement. So we don't know where exactly d 34 people are, but we know they are not in d bedroom. So this part is just a distraction to throw some confusion into the mix

3rd part: says, "you kill 30 people". It doesn't say where the 30 people are or that they are part of the 34 people mentioned before. We don't know. But what we know is their location is not linked to the bedroom. It doesn't say you kill 30 people in the bedroom

Ok, so far, we know for sure 1 person is inside d bedroom. This should b the correct answer right? Well, it should af been BUT there's a final twist an this is where d main critical thinking part is. This is d fun part grin. So lez examine d 4th part, which is the main question of d quiz.

4th part: says how many people are in the bedroom

Remember, we analysed 2 keywords b4. We af dealt with one "bedroom". Time to look at d 2nd one "people"

D questions says how many "people" are inside d bedroom.

People = PLURAL of person, that is, 2 or more persons
You can't say 1 people. This is wrong. You can only use people for multiple persons.

D question doesn't say how many persons are inside the room. It says how many "people". This is d trickiest part of d quiz

From the earlier analysis, we know for a fact that ONLY 1 person (singular) is inside the room. There are no "people" in the bedroom. So the correct answer is ZERO.

There are 0 people in the bedroom. So the 2 guys that answer 0 and the guy that said "None" are the people that got the correct answer grin

You just had to throw in so much verbosity to make it hard to criticize your answer right? Your answer is so flawed in many ways in yhat you're applying certain principles of grammar that only justifies your answer and flouting every other one.

For instance, I went to church, the pastor is preaching.

Your interpretation will now mean that because there's a comma there and not a semi-colon, then the pastor is not in the church i went?

beautiful nonsense...very illogical....

ok, lets go to the 2nd part, the point u made to prove the people were outside d room can also prove the people were inside the room...

there is actually no out or outside to show the people were outside d room, so i can as well assume they were inside...

ur answer reeks of assumption so does every other person answer...
how then can u be sure u have the correct answer?

As the riddle says, "You enter a bedroom there are 34 people. You kill 30. How many are in the bedroom'"

From the first statement, we imply that when 'you' enter the room there are already 34 people. So after including you, there are a total 35 people.

According to the second statement in the riddle, 30 people are killed by you.

When you have killed 30 people out of the 34 present already, there are still 34 people present.

It is this way because you have to take into consideration the number of people you killed as well and count them too.

Therefore there are 4 people alive, plus you and there are 30 people dead. Making it a total of 35 people in the room.

This is a clear case of a teacher who does not know the answer to the question he/she gave his/her students.
Especially your explanation spoilt the whole thing.

The question itself is wrong because the verbs used are in present tense instead of past tense.
Moreover, riddles that could be twisted into different meanings like this, always leaves the teacher with a wrong answer eventually.

Now, concerning the 4th part, the structure of a question in English Language is different from an ordinary statement, especially it's question of uncertainty.

For example, if you heard a knock at your door.
You won't say 'who are there?' or 'who is he?' etc

You would rather say, 'who is that/it/there?
You used a singular verb, 'is' in your question but later you might discover there is more than one person at the door.
You used 'who' but later you might discover it's not even a human being, it might be a goat. etc

Same applies to your question here.
'How many people' have taken care of whatever number, either just one person or more than one person.

You won't say, 'how many people or how many persons or person are or is in the bedroom?' No! That is bullshiit grammar.
You simply say, 'how many people' and that takes care of whatever number.
