these guys think it's PlayStation. it's easier to punch keypads though.
the team need better squad depth, and certainly Ole's man management in tight schedules like this need improvement.
beyond that, there's been not much wrong.

And if we played Fred and Mctominay and lost?
What will you have said then.
I won't comment as I understand the importance of rotation. Rashford was practically tired throughout the game, A good coach will bench the supposed tired players and bring them on in second half, if things does not go well.
Look at the liverpool team, they concentrated mainly on the league title because they are aware that they did not have quality backup.

Pogba and Matic are not fast to begin with. They will always have problems with teams that are able to play with pace and confidence. Currently, Fred and McTominay are low in confidence having fallen behind in the selection list. May be we should play diamond midfield against Leicester.
You are right that Pogba and Matic will struggle against quick midfielders but there is not much pace in that West Ham midfield. From around 60 minutes Pogba and Matic started walking towards the men they were supposed to mark. You can't have 2 tired chronic joggers in your midfield.

Also when the front 3-4 pressed the ball Matic and Pogba sat back, leaving wide gaps between them and the forwards and thereby allowing West Ham to beat the trap easily.

That you are slow does not mean you can't also get tired. Matic and Pogba are exhausted. The best bet against Leicester is for Ole to play McTom/Fred combo or McTom/Pogba combo behind Bruno. Leicester has quicker midfielders and attackers than West Ham so this Matic/Pogba combo will not work.

I think Matic should sit out the game, maybe come in 75'. we definitely need someone who can displace him in the team next season.

the diamond may even be the best approach with the tired legs and weak mentality in the team right now because Leicester again will look to press us high and they're faster in the final third than West Ham. they also play a 3-4-3 which will definitely force our defenders into errors in possession. our defenders pass the ball so slowly at the back, I don't know why they even bother. it get my goats up when they do that.

it can actually work with an Ighalo-Martial partnership upfront. McTom at base, Fred at right, Pogba/Bruno switching the left and center. we match their numbers in the middle and have an advantage to match their CB 3-on-3. we will be disadvantaged on the sides as they can overload our full backs, but we should be able to cope for most of it.
at least we still a resemblance of some nice bench of Greenwood, Rashford and Matic that can influence a game.

the Liverpool game today was a typical example. Lampard looked to do that choking press on Liverpool because it worked against us. with Origi, Liverpool didn't bother. the ball was simply sent up there and they try to gather the second balls while the full backs joined in quickly.

^^^ OGS will never try the above, the problem is I don't know if he's afraid to make changes and tweak the team or if he doesn't have the tactical know how to set up his team that way.

Fred and McTominay have played well against even better opposition than West Ham. It was painful to see Matic and Pogba struggling physically to cover ground at the end of this last game. Those 2 should have been taken out to preserve a few calories for Leicester.

Ighalo could have, and should have gotten more minutes against West Ham and Chelsea.

We don't have the quality of defenders or even the luxury to be playing out from the back against high quality sustained presses. In the Southampton game especially it was tactically inept to continue trying something that was obviously not working. He should have changed tactics and used the long ball on occasion even if it required bringing Odion Ighalo in early in the 2nd half.

Starting Rashford and James in attack against Chelsea was madness. Neither has good linkup play in central areas and both are off form.

Ole tries to follow Sir Alex's blueprint but he lacks one of the gaffer's natural skills, which is knowing when to use or rest players.

OGS is going no where for now. He's the one that gonna fix the Squad at large. We've got to live with it.

Trust OGS is smiling right now. You know why? Because he's gonna set-up the Team for Counter Attack.

Like some have opined, OGS should play 4 - 4 - 2 Formation (Diamond Midfleld Shape).

Backline should have AWB, Lindelöf, Maguire and Williams.

Midfield at the base should be McTom, left and right should be Fred and Pogba, while Bruno sit atop.

Upfront? Martial and Greenwood. In Goal?! DDG!

God bless you abundantly. See my post a few days ago. OGS has a lot to learn.....I hope we dont mess up on Sunday.

nitrogen:
That's how dynamic the EPL is, when they realised that we've started dealing with teams that sit back (re: having Bruno and Pogba in the midfield), they changed to high press. Must we start from the back? Flexibility is key here, can we have Ighalo play upfront for some strength and stamina? also he could try to win headers. At least we dont just rely on passing from the back, we need flexibility, we cant be responding to every action by going out there to buy players, it won't work.

The fans and players should not be doing the thinking for the manager.

Shoot!

I don’t even know when this passing from the back by force craze started.

It seems the good results earlier deceived Ole into thinking his players were Brazil 1970 standard.

Passing from the back with lots of risky play between DDG and defenders in our box area.

Just wondering why teams can press our keeper and defenders so high up the pitch, and the big men we have can't do same. We try to press but the gap in midfield allow opponents to easily beat the press.

The OGS we have seen will stick with this same team on Sunday. Only wolves can help us like this

we have been passing from the back since the beginning of the season, it just became more obvious because we don't play counter attacks like before.

The forwards alone can’t press. We can’t maintain a consistent press with a midfield of Pogba and Matic so we have to pick our poison.

For you to maintain a good press you need to shrink the field.
This means a high line for your defence (your CBs should be quick)
This then allows your CMs to push up as well and join forwards in the press.

This our current nonsensical system in which the forwards are pressing while Pogba and Matic drop off just makes it easier to get at our defence.

We are doing more of the passing out from the back now. It has nothing to do with counter attacks.

I am talking about situations like goal kicks when the 2 teams are set. Instead of launching the ball into the opposition half from time to time De Gea and his defenders now insist on playing out from the back even when they are in obvious trouble.
