It is done with IMF loans, private loans such as the one with China is not unique. Sovereignity in the contract refers to the country(Nigeria) not able to use it's status as a sovereign nation to get out of paying its debts. It simply means if the government refuses to pay, China will come for their money!

The issue is non issue. If we default in the loan, china will take over our assets abroad for the equivalent of the amount payable. How that amounts to giving up sovereignty should worry you. Who will give you loan without collateral.
