Hello MadeMan01,

Getting a 3yr PGWP with a 1yr Master program is strongly based on the VO's discretion and not always guaranteed.

There is a strong doubt if the PGWP has been issued for 3yrs with a 1yr PGD/C or AD.

It goes like this; 8 months program equals 1yr (depends on VO's discretion), 1yr equals 1yr., 16 months equals 3yrs (also depends on VO's discretion) and 2yrs equals 3yrs.

Ultimately, everything boils down to VOs discretion.

All the best

Thanks @JustMellow

@Osemigho and other Gurus: please help me throw more light around the issue of sponsorship. As his father, should I position myself as the primary sponsor while his uncle in France and his aunt in Canada be the secondary sponsors? One year tuition and living expenses for him, his accompanying mother and younger brother (8 yrs old) is #11m, and all my savings till date is #6m. With this amount, am I in best position to be the primary sponsor or his aunt ( a Canadian citizen) whose savings is probably bigger than mine should be the primary sponsor while I serve as the co-sponsor? Can the three of us (myself, his maternal aunt and uncle) be the sponsors, hope 3 sponsors is not to much?

3 sponsors too much In my opinion.

Does the Canada aunt live or own a house close to his school? If yes, let her be the second sponsor and guidance. She will write a letter that he would live with her. How many people does she live it? Is there a vacant room for him? What does the aunt earns? How many dependents? What is her relationship with your son?Etc.

Those are some critical questions to she need to answer in her letter and support with documents. Mentioning aunt is not enough. Back it up with birth and marriage certificates as necessary. If the aunt doesn’t live close to his school, you may want to look for another school in her city or town.

Why is his mother and brother accompanying him tough? Is it a temporary thing or what? If I can ask these question, VOs would likely do too. Please consider that. Perhaps you want him to apply alone first or with his mum alone. The mum can say she would follow temporarily to ensure he gets there safely and softly. How long is she going to stay? who will host her along her son? What’s the budget for her own temporary stay?

The uncle is France sponsorship is something else. He is far from his proposed school and doesn’t have direct relationship with him. If I was the one, I would leave him out as a sponsorship. However, he can give or loan you some money to build your account.

Since you have more than a year to resumption and 6m saved. I would advise you to take about 4-6 months to build your account to 10m. uncle in France can give you money and you will deposit it in bits or open a six month fixed deposit due before his resumption.

Another thing to consider is your assets and source of income. How did you raise the 6m is as important as the money itself? Can you afford to continue paying his fees? What is your yearly income? How many dependents do you have?

Young folks are forgiven a lot in terms of course and program, but sponsor is always a big issue for them. In my personal experience with GCMS evidence, I see that VOs like parents or older siblings to be their sponsor and they should have yearly income in millions. 8-10m balance is good with partial or full tuition paid. Tuition payment is not compulsory though. I also notice it doesn’t matter if they are going for two year diploma in college or 4 years program in University.

My comments are based on my experience and knowledge. It may not be your reality. All the best.

Bros: I really appreciate this detailed response.

To answer some of the questions you posed, this Canadian relative is my wife's aunt (i.e. younger sister to my wife's mother). She lives and works in Quebec with her family but my son got admission into the University of Regina in Saskatchewan. Becauseof this long distance, she cannot play the role of a custodian, hence my wife must accompany him as a parent. My wife doesn't want to leave his 8 yrs ld son behind when accompanying the elder son going to foreign university. Should she then state her visit would be temporary just to help him settle down in the university while she would return immediately that is done?

We dont want the struggle of another round of searching for a nearby school to his aunt. Moreso, we desire an opportunity which allows her mom (my wife) entry into Canny. I have just two son and I am gainfully employed with annual gross income of 3.6m naira. Is this also a red flag? Please, advise as the France in law may not want to deposit money into my acount to build it as you hinted. Thanks for sparing you time.

One last and slightly different thing, since you have a year, you have time to take on risks. Perhaps you want to address some of the issues raised and apply soon. While waiting for that decision, you will be building yourself and your application better in case they reject the first one. Perhaps a tight application is your plan B while you risk what you have currently as plan A. Time Dey but don’t relax after submitting plan A.

All the best.

sister is in a dilemma, she has her sights set on furthering her education in canada. She has a Bsc in accounting in a federal university here in nigeria. She has spent sleepless nights researching but has settled at 3 private canadian universities. Please NLanders (especially if you have immigrated to canada) help with wise advise as to which would be a good choice that will also increase her chances of getting a quality education, job prospects and settling there permanently.

Choice A- UCW
It's a new private secular university founded in 2005, located in downtown Vancouver. The campus is not big, just a building(looks rented IMO). It has just one masters which is their MBA. IT has a few good and bad reviews but mostly because of their past( it has passed hands a lot like econet/ vmobile/zain/celtel/airtel). It isn't a well known school.

It is located in a big city so cost of living is higher, it is easy to apply to and doesn't have much requirements. She got an accepted into the school already.. The tuition is $35100 Canadian dollars and initial deposit of $8000. Small scholarships are available for students at 10% max. It is also eligibe for graduation work permit and immigration program after. It is the cheapest to apply for out of the three.

Choice 2 -TWU

It's a private christian liberal university located in Langley, BC. Founded in 1962. Has a semi-urban/rural campus. She's applying for their MBA. It has the highest ranking of the 3 but not as much as Ivy league Universities in canada. It is a faith based school (like covenant) and not accepting of LGBTQ+. It is the most expensive of the 3 at $41,000 tuition fees with $10,000 deposit. It isn't as easy to get into as the rest. It has normal to nice reviews online. To apply she needs to write a duolingo English test and a WES report. There's also the application fee which is 44k naira and other documents which will amount to 150k naira. There's also limited scholarships for merit students not to talk of international students.

Choice C CRN
A private christian university located in newbronswick. Farther from Alberta than the rest WITH Lower cost of living. Owned by baptists(also faith based). Has on and off campus housing. Has okay reviews and not accepting of LGBTQ+. She's applying for a 2yr master of management course which cost $32000 with initial deposit of $5000. It is also eligible for post graduate work permit and PR. There's also the deadline for provincial nominee (2021/2022) to consider. But she hopes they extend the deadline or renew it. There's no scholarship for international students, although it has the cheapest tuition fees. It also needs a WES report.

Please nairalanders home and abroad, come to our aid once again. Many heads are better than one.

Welcome to this informative thread.

First of all, i don't understand the 'secular' and 'Christian' adjectives, but I'll advise you to check out and confirm that your choice of school is fit for PGWP after studying.

Secondly, tell her not to rush.. Take time and read this thread very well.. I don't know how rich she is but there are cheaper schools that she can get into.. Everything you need is here on this thread, including popular schools that others have used to achieve my dream.. All the best to her

Long post alert!

Hello fam, it's been a while here but first of all, my special appreciations goes to @Frankrobben1 @mcobex and @justwise, thanks alot for everything and am highly sorry i have not been so regular to contribute my quota on this great platform. Funny enough, i wanted to drop this post few weeks earlier but it has not been easy balancing work, personal life and family, it has been draining and exhausting at the same time but all the same, i thank God. @Osemigho, longest time to you bro grin.

An important info: If you are currently in Canada and interested in a Work from home Customer Service Representative/Technical Support position, i know of a company that is currently hiring for multiple positions across Canada and they are 90% responsive employer, if interested please send me a PM stating your province and state.

Secondly, please guys brace up and start improving your skills. Studying in Canada is nothing compared to the big struggle which is the labour market, anyone that says getting a professional job is easy is just deceiving you, Canadian employers value skill sets more than your qualifications infact 0.1/1000 would ask for your certificate before hiring you, what they are after is what you have to offer the company in terms of skill sets. I am not trying to scare anyone here but i want you all to think beyond just coming to Canada to study but what lies ahead of you after study. This is a topic that no one talks about and as you are waiting for your approval response from CIC or preparing to travel, start improving both your soft, interview and technical skills.

Before you graduate, start networking with experienced professionals in your field, i cant emphasize this enough, ask questions and dont get tired of doing so, information is power in Canada and a person who doesn't seek for it will be left in the dark. Know the required certifications in your field, begin the journey before you graduate and make sure you get the most out of it. Let me sight an example. My younger brother just graduated in April, he did his masters in cyber security (am sure some people know him on this platform), this guy had studied his field and labour market to know the hot cake certifications he needed to get although they are quite expensive but he was working per time just to raise money to write those exams, he now has the following certifications before grad. for the benefit of anyone who might be interested: Security+ over $450CAD, CCNA over $450CAD, ITILA4 Over $400CAD, AWS SAA over $200CAD. (Although i have no idea of what all this means cos its not my field lol) This guy in question got multiple offers 2 months to his graduation (last feb) and all these companies were ready to wait till he graduate, he picked one and declined the other offers and the pay is crazy. Anyone who knows the trend would testify to the fact that Medical line and IT are hot cake field in Canada. He is currently working on another certification which is targeting a bigger position in IT banking sector and he recently got a new offer with TD bank with mouth watering pay and benefits.

The morale of this story is, he looked beyond just studying and prepared for life after school, he took the pain to invest in himself now he is reaping the reward. And one of the issues i noticed among we Nigerians is we dont always want to spend money to invest in ourselves if you are bringing that mentality of course, you are totally wrong. Do not wait till the last minutes as a student before you start moulding your life, the struggles start immediate you resume school, open your eyes and ears wide please and dont dull yourself.

Remember you are coming to compete with millions of Canadians and intelligent immigrants in the job market, even to get a minimum wage job, you must be sound, intelligent and outspoken, qualifications is garbage in Canada in fact the minimum educational requirements for most managerial/top positions is college degree and at most Bsc. This was why i stated in one of my previous post that pHD degree is a disadvantage in Canada. Dont misquote me please, am not discouraging anyone not to pursue your pHD dream, the choice is yours and it is totally fine if you are using pHD stream to migrate to Canada. if you have passion for pHD, please go for it but if you are in the category of people who has a Naija mentality thinking getting a pHD degree would increase their chances of getting a field job, sorry would be your case because you will end up been overqualified for most positions. Before completing my masters degree, there were 3 pHD students and 2 masters students that were wrapping up in my research group, my supervisor recommended them for some job positions in the industry but unfortunately the masters students were hired while the PHD students were not hired, they were told they are overqualified for the position. Few years back, i applied for my current job with my masters degree appearing on my resume and i didn't even get a green light, the following year, the same company posted the same job, i deleted my masters degree and reapplied and got an interview request the following day and BAM! i landed the job. That is just to give you an idea of how things are running here so if you are planning to stay and work permanently in Canada, don't be too carried away by acquiring degrees because it will end up been useless but your skill sets + Certifications can take you to places.

I have a lot of hints to share but let me drop my pen here smiley

It will surely end in praise grin

Honestly I wish I found this forum earlier... The information here is pure gold...

But please help a sister, my gurus...

i'd be fully sponsored by my father. He has the first year tuition plus living expenses.

I'm 22 years and I finished with NYSC October last year and took up an little job more like an unpaid graduate internship in the finance department of the company. Just a little allowance which is given in cash...
December last year to date. Employer is willing to provide the necessary documents and even state I would be given a higher position with an attractive salary upon my return after my masters of management- international Accounting and finance.

But won't the vo feel I'm not financially capable or not having a suitable employment back home, or have a tie back home since I can't produce my own bank statement, and I have been working for less than a year?
Or should I not state that I'm working?

I have a registered business with CAC but I haven't been active with it since I started working.
No other documents other the CAC for the business.
Should I include that too? I included it in my previous application that was denied.

*Or what other means can I prove ties... Although my boss is a family friend and If I ask him to print payslips, he'd direct the HR to give me but my bank statement won't reflect anything.

Please guys any advice would be helpful...

Your level of proposed education, masters, is great for your age. Tighten your Dad’s sponsorship and get scholarship if possible. By tighten, I mean flex his financial capacity with as many documents as possible. Letter from your workplace is enough tie. You can add your CAC to show you plan a consulting firm or something related on arrival.

All the best.

No one can truly say. IRCC says it is not, but some are skeptical based on past experience. We can only learn from people that choose to take the risk. We have all benefited and learn from previous applications, whether good or bad. The study permit game style has changed. We can only patiently wait and hope for the best. As before, we encourage everyone to share their final decisions and wish them the best.

Thank you so much.
I will work on adding more financial documents for my dad.
But there's no scholarship for my program and my registered business is a beauty/fashion business. Started it as during my final year in the university.
Don't you think I'd be contradicting myself saying I want to become a financial analyst in the financial industry and run a beauty/fashion business at the same time.

I was thinking of acquiring a landed property in my name, do you think that will be helpful? And also the timing...hope it won't be too short because i plan of applying this month.

Further information below:

We’ll process complete applications first.

What to do if you can’t provide required documents
Upload a letter of explanation explaining the reasons why you can’t submit the requested documents (such as the letter of acceptance or proof of enrolment).

Your application will not be rejected if you cannot submit the requested documents.

When we start processing your application, we’ll ask for the missing documents and give you an extension to provide the documents, if needed.

How we process applications without all required documents
If you can’t submit a complete application, we’ll process your application in 2 stages.

Stage 1: We check your eligibility
In this stage, an officer reviews your application for

a letter of acceptance from a designated learning institution
a Certificat d'acceptation du Québec (if you’ll be studying in Quebec)
proof that you have enough money for
tuition fees
living expenses for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada and
return transportation for yourself and any family members who come with you to Canada
any family ties you may have to Canada
evidence that you’ll leave Canada when you no longer have legal status
If your application passes this first stage, we’ll let you know in your online account. This doesn’t guarantee that we’ll approve your application and issue you a study permit.

Our aim is to pass most applications through stage 1 before the fall semester starts.

Stage 2: We check your application for admissibility and any changes to your eligibility
In this stage, an officer reviews your application for

a medical exam, if needed
police certificates, if needed
your biometrics
any information that changed after we reviewed your application for eligibility
If your application passes this second stage, we’ll approve it.

At this point, when current travel restrictions change, you’ll be

ready to travel to Canada and begin your studies, or
able to continue your studies in Canada, if you’ve already started studying online
This 2-stage process will only apply to study permit applications

submitted by September 15, 2020, and
for programs that start, or have started, in spring, summer or fall 2020.

One small land in the village will help for home tie, but you really don’t need it. Your age is good for your profile and application, but your sponsorship can be a problem.

Please can I use a gift deed from my Husband's elder brother as a proof of funds for my studies in canada?

How long should this gift deed have been with us? Can it be accepted if it's less than a month it was issued?

This can be drafted my a lawyer and you can ask the lawyer to backdate it to as far back as you want. And ask him also to notarize it. Wishing you all the best..

Hi house. Quick question, is it necessary to change a document by document Wes report used for EE to a course by course report for study purpose.Though admission has been obtained from a college already but is it necessary to do it to strengthen the study visa application? Thanks

Hello Dayjeee,

You should check Public Administration or Management courses. Try to also expand your search on Google.

All the best

Sister, thank you for this piece. I hv an IT background too with some of th e certifications you mentioned. I ll be coming to Canada next year, I ll appreciate if you can link me up with ur IT brother for some enquiries.

sister is in a dilemma, she has her sights set on furthering her education in canada.

Your sister is the person that knows why she settled for the three private universities, there are other schools like MUN and UNB that have better reputation and also cheaper than these three private universities.

The second options TWU is preferable of these three and tuition is $35,000 not $41,000
