why are the elites and the governors getting exposed and infected while commoners like us that go to the market and mix up with the crowd are not infected?

That's easy.

The elites are getting infected for the same reason a lot of Americans are getting infected.

Air Travel.

1.A lot of Europeans and Americans travel abroad for pleasure. (unlike Nigerians). And China , as well as most of the Asian continent is a big travel destination. A lot of Chinese also travel to Europe, the US and so on for tourisim and for work (Fun fact...several thousands of Chinese were working in a part of Northern Italy....and were flying back to and fro. Guess what happened)

Covid spread along the travel routes.

2.A lot of Nigerian elite travel abroad too...and some were still flying to Europe when Europe was still heavily infested. Buhari's right hand was in Germany for instance in March, when Germany was having a rising number of covid 19 cases...and naturally he caught it.

3.The elite socialise among themselves, and spread it among themselves.

4.Also, MOST Nigerians don't travel out for pleasure or work.

That's why.

Drawing on my limited knowledge...

1.Covid19 has no cure for now.

2.It affects people in different ways. 35% (according to one study) of covid 19 patients are asymptomatic. Most may just have some mild fever, cough and cold. Some have more complicated illnesses...including diarrhea, severe breathing difficultes, and so on. And having coexisting factors llike diabetes, hypertension and obesity as well as being old predisposes you to dying

I want to think that most Nigerians have been infected at one point without really knowing because with the lack of social distancing i see everyday, i thought things will be worse than they are.

Speaking speculatively...it is possible.

At the same time, we haven't been as exposed as badly as the US and Europe...largely because we don't travel as much as they do...meaning the infection was limited to the elites, who do travel, and who (to be fair) promptly isolated themselves for the most part.

But that's speaking speculatively.

When they finally tell us how much they used to battle covid 19, we would all be shocked.

I know some people here who caught it and survived also some who passed away personally.

Many of us were subclinical carriers without even being aware. We should be grateful that for some reason we had immunity if not people would have been dropping dead on the streets.

All the same the government has used this to cash out badly.

Can Covid19 be totally eradicated or we will just learn to live with it?

Also, why has Nigeria cases (both confirmed cases and death) been so "few" when compared to other developed countries With better medical facilities? I understand that we are doing enough test but how did Nigeria keep the death rate low for over 5 months since the index case <1,000 deaths?

The CDC issued a report on the 17th, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a report that as early as February 2nd, Trump hastily issued a ban on Chinese tourists, but did not announce the entry restrictions on European countries until March 13, but by March 8th, the new coronavirus had long since begun to spread in New York City communities. In addition, the report reveals a finding that the strain popular in New York City has nothing to do with Wuhan, China. In response to the report, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the virus had spread to New York City because of the government’s response to the epidemic, killing so many Americans.
