"You are playing with fire!!! If you do not pay your debt at 9JA CASH by 12pm today your bvn will be blocked!! You will be barred from accessing loan anywhere in Nigeria!!! Your picture will be displayed on all social media sites as a defaulter!!! You will be headed for the authorities 6am tomorrow morning!!!"

This was the message I got barely 24hrs after my due date. How can one see messages like this and still wanna repay. And dat was how all my contacts also got same threats from them. I've never defaulted not even once and barely 24hrs I'm getting a threat. So I ask are they really legit or got their license illegally.

BREAKING NEWS!

BEWARE OF SOKOLOAN...

PREDATORY LENDING IS REAL!!!

This happened to my sister of recent. She applied for a domestic loan on Sokoloan online platform to the tune of 14k. She was billed N6, 433 in interest (i. e an outrageous 45%interest for a 10 day loan. This meant that she was to pay back N20, 433 ten days from the time she secured the loan.

Fast forward to 10 days time. She was unable to meet up with the loan repayment, and thus demanded for more time when contacted. 3 weeks after that, on the 15th of feb, she got a report that the following message was being circulated to all her phone contacts, including key business clients. The report read thus:

"Attention! The Name: Naomi So and So with phone number XXXXXXXXXX is acting fraudulent, Has defaulted in her repayment of loan to a chinese lending company (Sokoloan) by collecting a loan and refusing to pay back. The public is advised to take caution of her, until she pays back the company money.

NOTEWORTHY is the fact that the actual amount owed or even the exorbitant interest added was conveniently ommited from this highly defamatory message, giving the impression that She may have defrauded the company of a huge amount of money.. (if that isn't predatory, what is it then?

To make matters worse, when the customer care was called by the upset young lady to demand why her character should be so defamed after just three weeks of default, she was rewarded with more insults and threats and called unmentionable names.

This from a Chinese firm?

In a related report @nairaland, a similar incident just occured involving this same sokoloan. A woman who had lent 8k to pay back 15k in 14 days time was meted this same horrible treatment few days after she defaulted that ended in the victim taking her own life as a result of the ensuring embarassment. Now if this isnt predatory and evil, what is??

Now my point is this...

A country that cannot protect its citizens from exploitation from foreigners and evil loan extablishments, is this fair?

Where are the regulatory bodies that are supposed to be guiding the exploitative activities of these shylocks whose major aim remains to capitalize on the vulnerability of our poor economy and defraud Nigerians by the millions?

#This is unacceptable!

#Sokoloan is a fraud that must be shut down

#Naomi is now threatening to sue for grevious defamation of character.

#Naomi has been timely with her repayments on previous loan transactions. Why defame her now on a little default?

I stand with Naomi on this!

Its time to be the change we seek.

Below are the hotlines of the fradulent sokoloan: 08148799371.
01 - 4536792

Lets all register our displeasure by sending them a message. Remember, all for one, one for all.

PLS RESHARE. WE CAN MAKE THIS GO VIRAL. GOD BLESS YOU.

My cousin has the same experience last year December. they company have no regards to Nigeria law

A friend of mine told me his story and I didn't believe until I registered and pretended to take a loan, interest was almost 50% which is criminal. Dnt blame them though, it's our leaders I blame and the economy that forces people to resort to such robbery. Las las if you no ask for there loan dem no go rob you.

RUN! RUN! RUN! FROM SOKOLOAN

AFTER TAKEN SEVERAL LOANS WITH TIMELY REPAYMENT ON 14 OCCASIONS, THE LAST ONE I TOOK DURING THE DISTRESS OF MY CHILD BIRTH ALMOST RUINED MY LIFETIME REPUTATION. I WAS SO UNFORTUNATE ON THAT VERY EARLY HOUR OF THE DAY OF MY SECOND BABY'S DELIVERY, WHEREBY MY ACCOUNT WAS DEBITED IN EXCESS OF 92,000 THE SAME EARLY HOUR MY WIFE ENTER INTO LABOUR. THE DEBIT WAS AS A RESULT OF A TOURISM PACKAGE SUBSCRIBED TO WITH AN AGENCY, WHICH I WASN'T EVER EXPECTING AN AUTO DEBIT BELIEVING I DO TOURISM ANYTIME I DEEM IT CONVINIENT.

IMMEDIATELY I SAW THE DEBIT ALERT, I MOVED ALL MY REMAINING BALANCE TO ONE OF MY YOUNGER BROTHER'S ACCOUNT, TO AVOID ANOTHER UNEXPECTED DEBIT, UNFORTUNATELY AS I WAS ABOUT TO START PAYING THE BILLS AFTER GETTING TO THE HOSPITAL, MY BROTHER MADE A MISTAKE OF TRANSFERING THE MONEY BACK TO ME ON NEFT TRANSFER SYSTEM, WHICH WILL AUTOMATICALLY TAKES 24 WORKING HOURS BEFORE I CAN RECEIVE IT.

IMMEDIATELY I HAD RO TURN TO PEOPLE FOR HELP, AND ALSO GET SOME SMALL LOANS TO PAY MY BILLS.

I ACTUALLY DEFAULTED THE REPAYMENT AFTER THE 8 DAYS RUNNING INTO TWO WEEKS BECAUSE EVERY WAS LIKE TIGHT.

TO MY CONCLUSION, THEIR TERMS AND CONDITIONS NEVER STATED THAT YOUR PHONE CONTACTS WILL BE COMPROMISED AND A DEFAMATION MESSAGES WILL BE SENT TO ALL YOUR CONTACT. IT KILLING AFTER RECEIVING THIS MESSAGE AS ATTACHED.

This Soko lending company needs to be looked into. I have been paying back my loans successfully without any itch until now that I'm finding it hard to pay back. My loan was due for payment on 19th of August which I couldn't pay back, this was the message they sent to my contacts the following day;

You are a guarantor to ............. with phone no ..................!!! If she does not pay her debt at SOKO LOAN by 2pm your bvn will be blocked!! You will be barred from accessing loan anywhere in Nigeria!!! Your picture will be displayed on all social media sites as a defaulter!!! You will be headed for the authorities 6am tomorrow morning!!!.

And this was sent the second day;
NOTICE: ,............. on .............. is acting Fraudulend and has defraud the loan company called SOKOLOAN, the public is advice to distance from Him as legal actions will be taken against Him soon if he failed to pay within 24 hours . SOKOLOAN.

This is really defaming and nearly made my mum to be hit by a vehicle.

Our Government need to investigate this company.

Warm regards.

Totally bad experience...
9ja cash has one of the worse customer-client relationship so far, coupled with their outrageous interest fee...

I can only advice members of the public to be careful in dealing with this fraudulent firm...
Here's a contact to reach out to the year worse performing 9ja cash employee @ 09067871540.

More so, I have a recorded audio and a screenshot proof from this 9ja cash agent.

I just got a message from this sokoloan people and I actually haven't heard of them before telling me one of my contacts is a fraud, I had to browse about the sokoloan and I now saw this post on Naira land. This is really bad and outrageous, they even told me in the message to stay way from her. Something has to be done about this people, you can't just defame someone's character like that, it's very bad.

The question is how do they get access to contacts. It means their app has malware that takes information from the phone.

I just got a message about a friend. He even told me he hasn't borrowed yet.

Nigerians and entitlement mentality....one guy was even talking about nationhood. The same guy might be raving mad here on nairaland with tribalism .
Whatever terms a person borrowed anything even if it's a pin, he or she is bound first by personal Intergrty and second by law to abide to those terms.
A loan company is a profit making org. Not a charity org. If u don't like it, u swerve. Besides whoever is dumb enough to grant access of his contact lisf to a mobile app? A Chinese mobile app for that matter??

Y'all should get over yourselves... The world is bigger than ur short sighted eyes. If u think u can be a Nigerian everywhere and with everything, u are among men most miserable

I collected a loan it was not due and they started calling me to remind me. I blankly told the man not to call me again as my date is not due. Due date I saw an alert on my phone for an attempted withdrawal. I called the ibo guy straight up and told him they are criminals and I am not paying anything. They have been sending same messages to my contact who call me, and I tell them those fools are bunch of criminals.

But seriously, isn't hacking into someone's contact an invasion of privacy and criminal?! The defamation of character is another issue, people default repayment of loans for one reason or the other, why assassinate someone's character in that manner just because of some 7k or 15k loans?!

I discovered the questionable identity of the so called sokoloans when i checked them up on Truecaller and saw that they are flagged as "SCAM"! I decided to check them up on google and this Nairaland post is what came up.

I got same defaming SMS from some numbers about a relative who borrowed from them and it's been distressing since because the language they are using to circulate this evil SMS is way terrible.

A borrower is a slave to the lender so sorry for ur hassles cos u brought it up on yourself .many Nigerians are not financially smart...imagine u see a 45% interest rate loan yet u dived into it...

See debt is not tool,,,,its only a tool for "fools" or "very smart business people"...

An average Nigerian does not know how to handle money,,,
I am so sure if you find out what she wanted to use the money for ,,,you would discover its was for frivolities...

"Most Nigerian yut spend money they don't have to impress people they don't really like"....

We need to change this mindset of using debt...I would like to recommend a book for her....

The Total Money Make Over By Dave Ramsey.....After reading this book you would hate debt badly

As for sokoloan,,,nah biz organization so no blame dem...dem too wan cash-out

I am short of words. I do not know where to start. I don't know if I should talk about those who God has blessed so much that they do not realize that some people are living from hand to mouth. Or myself who has been in the same situation with Naomi.
My prayer to you is that: may you never find yourself in a situation where you won't border to read terms and conditions. Or that when you do, the terms and condition won't matter to you.
Sokoloan, Gocash, 9jacash and some others are all the under the same umbrella
May God be God be praised

Soko loan also have another company called 9ja cash, they made me loss my job after telling my boss that I am a criminal on run with a company money, they never mentioned I just burrowed 5000 naira to pay 8,500 naira in 7 days. This made my boss sack me with an immediate effect without payment telling me I can't tarnish the image of the company. They sent the same message to my pastor which felt so sorry for me after listening to my own part of the story. I wish I could sue these people for calling me a chronic criminal because of 5000 naira.

Please let all the affected bombard their Google play page and write a bad report about them.

I'm still surprised that the government still allowed Sokoloan to operate their staffs behave like touts.
