To early to celebrate this, automobile industry in Nigeria is murky waters.
Too many obstacles to scale to deliver a product with quality. Political obstacles, economic obstacles etc.
Who are these guys that built a road ready car without anyone knowing? To what extent did they manufacture the components or was it assembly or outright importation and branding? what are their plans for the market to ensure profitability and sustainability? What is their perception of the competition in the Nigerian market or is this a direct calling out of IVM Nigeria. They need to let us know the answers to these questions rather than this showroom strutting they are performing online. I wish them luck.

I was shocked when I discovered that some people believe that the word Nord came from Ford. That's a shocking level of ignorance. It meant that they do not know that the word Nord has existed for more than a millenia (long before the Ford Motor Company was dreamt of) and that it means North. There have been very many companies that have had the name Nord.


Here are some of Nord's vehicles.


1) Nord A3 sedan.

Ford is a global brand and the people at Nord are ignorant to use "Nord". Most people do not have the time nor interest to start digging their history. It is a Ford knock off just like a fake Rolex. Nord means North in several romance languages and it is a word that has existed long before the Ford Motor Company was even dreamt of.

It can also mean go upwards or go forward.

I see some rugged looking vehicles that can be transformed into technicals(by the military). That is if the engines are as strong as the exterior/paneling.

We don't realize yet but we are gradually nursing a nascent automobile industry. Baby-steps but it is gradually taking shape. Nobody flies just like that. You first learn to crawl. And with the right incentivisation from the government the sky can only be y he starting point.

But I still would like to know what informed the name "Nord" though. Would be interesting to know and clear all doubts as far as the whole "Ford-Nord" imbroglio is concerned.

Same way motorcycles moved from whole importation to parts importation and assembly due to its cost efficiency.. Its obvious cars are moving in that direction aswell to take advantage of the market..

Auto importers should look into this direction, if the prices can match the cost of the average tokunbo, am sure it would take over the market.

The Chinese would be at great advantage because the Nigerian auto industry market would shift from the used US cars to assembled Chinese/Japanese imports 100%..

Nord means north in lots of Romance languages. There are actually many companies named Nord (there's even another automobile company in Europe named Nord, but they don't do the same thing that their Nigerian counterparts do).

The reason that so many companies are named Nord is because it can also mean forward or upward.

The difference between Igbo and Yoruba owned businesses is packaging and the Yorubas ofc know how to do that better.

See how clean and luxury ish their workshop and sales outlet looks compared to innoson. That alone can provoke sales on the notion of buying quality and luxury rather than innoson that seems to provoke sale out of pity or solely on the ground of nationalism


Look at the difference between Aba made shoes usually packed in potatoe sack as compared to the one's Yoruba guys make on IG with shoe box. It's no wonder the Yoruba own might have a smaller share but definitely serves a wealthier portion of the marketing, creating a sustainable brand.

Igbos should focus on packaging and innovation and then, they can truly dominate the economy as they like to claim


Op, what you posted as reactions are extremely one sided. A lot of foreigners condemned Nord like A looot for their lack of creativity in name choice. Why would they even name it Nord? Which is too similar to Ford a very established player in the same Industry or maybe the founder is Henry Nord
