You can only get the dividends paid in the last 12 years, the previous dividends have become status barred

What are the names of the companies he had shares in?

This the company mine has in "Transnational Corporation of Nigeria Plc". Is there a chance the dividends is been paid consistently? As I wouldn't know, one of my older siblings took up his bank account for his own use after his demise.

If the money got into his account it won't be classified as unclaimed

Oh oh, I guess this answers my question above.

That is if he signed for e-dividend, in the past Investors were given dividend warrants a form of cheque.

Transcorp is not a good company, I doubt it is worth the effort if that is the only company

Oga, if it only transcorp, I suggest you just snooze. I bought Transcorp IPO around 2006 because I wanted to be a part owner of Nitel with my small savings that year, today, the value is not worth the pen I used in filling the form.

I think I saw the cheque then but I must overlooked as I was a naive teenager then.

Wow, that's the only company listed there. Alright then, thank you

Stupidity of the highest order.

Firstly, this write up is filled with lies. Since when did Madagascar's currency become higher than the naira. 1 Malagasy Ariary = 0.1 Naira. The Sudanese Pound is equivalent to 7 Naira, not 42 Naira. The Malawian Kwacha is not stronger than the Naira, it is not equivalent to 21 Naira. 1 Naira = 2 Malawian Kwacha. These are just few of the numerous lies up there. What do you hope to achieve by sharing these devilish lies?

Secondly,

1 Naira = 3 South Korean Wons

Does that mean Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and others have a better economy than South Korea?

1 Gambian Dallasi = 2 Japanese Yen
1 Ghanaian Cedi = 18.2 Japanese Yen (Let's assume we don't know about Ghana's currency redomination)

Do these mean that Gambia and Ghana have a stronger economy then Japan?

Exchange rates do not represent the reality on ground. In fact, if we Nigerians were a serious people, we would have used this low exchange rate to turn ourselves into an export-based nation as this will make our exports cheaper and more competitive on the global market. But no, we must sit down doing nothing and complain. It's the Chinese, Lebanese and Indians that will come and take advantage.

China's dream would be to have the chance to devalue their currency to our level without being called a currency manipulator and getting slammed with sanctions from US and EU. Sensible countries like Vietnam keep their exchange rates very low to stimulate exports.

Nigeria's target should be to solve exchange rate instability, and not to be striving for N1=$1. The Naira can be 300, 360, 400, 500 to a dollar but let it be stable, so that investors and business people can plan for the future. Not today 300, tomorrow 450, next tomorrow 390, the other day 610. You collect dollar loan to invest in Nigeria at 1$ to N300, but when it's time to pay back, it's 1$ to 500. Exchange rate stability is what is needed. If we solve this and bring down inflation, it would go a long way in helping businesses.

Well no one wants to lose money. After investing X millions in nigerian treasury bills (which should be a relatively safe investment) only to go through 2 instability cycles with the Naira all reducing my investment. Shouldn't I carry my money and run? Let the indians and lebanese keep investing. They know how to better manipulate the system. And carry their dollars in cash in Ghana most go when they are travelling.

What is the most efficient way to convert 12 milllion to USD. I'm currently in U. S and I'm tired this treasury bills crap. The interest on investment can't even bit naira falling nor inflation. Is bitcoin a good idea? Is there any other better to invest other than naira? Investing in naira at this point is pointless.

Please house,

I bought Oceanic bank share as far back 2007 they merged with Ecobank and I got dividend slip sent to my address by Ecobank. I have two of such dividend slip still with me. That's 2011 and 2012.

I just abandoned the whole thing since I bought it. I didn't even do anything with the dividend slip.

My question is, where do I go from here?

You sure it was dividends slip and not notice of annual general meeting? This is the first time I am hearing someone got shares from Ecobank.

Export export export.

Best option I can recommend for you is to look for a trusted exporter of Agricultural products. He will buy the products locally in naira and export to Europe or any other country.

The consignee will pay in dollars. Even though FGN will demand you repatriat, there should be a way that the banks can work this out for you to get paid in the dollar.

Shalom.

Thanks for sharing and the initiative taken by SEC to reduce unclaimed dividends in Nigeria, currently valued at over N100 billion.

My cousins were able to recover over N30 million after paying taxes and other charges as unclaimed dividends from their late fathers investment based on this initiative from SEC.

The old man died 18 years ago, they could only recover the dividends paid in the last 12 years, previous dividends became status barred after 12 years.

Sorry for bothering you and thanks to you and several others on this platform for the good work you are doing here, my questions are as follows

1, l just checked for a relative of mine, the man is dead but I am the one who trained the daughter from primary till she graduated from the University last year and I am like a father / guardian to her because I am the one she has been with since the demise of the dad and she is the only child

2. I inputed the details of her late dad (my relative) and it brought out his names and he has shares with (a) UAC of Nigeria and ( b) Alumaco of Nigeria plc

3, As at the death of my relative, we didn’t get the death certificate but I guess it means we have to go through a lawyer or probate etc

4. I don't reside in Nigeria and l only visit once in a while, please with your vast experience in shares, do you think we should pursue the process

5. Are those 2 companies l mentioned above viable and do you think that we might get something reasonable from the 12 years accumulated share for the only surving daughter?

Thanks as l wait for your response

UACN is viable, the volume bought will determine the expected dividends over the years.

Where is the daughter?

They will need the death certificate, before it can be pursued
