Hello guys i have been rearing rabbits for some months now and i noticed that one of my rabbit have not pooed since yesterday and it is going to 6 months old rabbit. It is big enough

My rabbit is not pooing and it is not eating too. It is also restricting its movement, please what could be the problem.

I don't want to lose it.

Please veterinary doctors and rabbit farmers/breeders in the house, what can i do to make it poo and eat again just like before.

Please i need urgent help, i dont want it to die.

Modified...

I also noticed it always stay in one place and pressing its stomach Down.

Please help move to front page, thank you, God bless you as you do that?

Pictures below:
That looks like bloat. Bloat is somewhat similar to constipation in humans.

If you feed your rabbits with compounded feed I would have really believed it is bloat. But it seems you use grass mainly.

However, I will suggest you lookup how to help a rabbit with bloat. Some of the options will be;

1. withdraw compounded feed and replace with grass (ie if you were using compounded feed).
2. Press it's stomach while raising it's butt upwards to help it release gas ( they don't normally pass gas on their own - maybe that's why bloat is common with them).
3. Take it out from the cage and leave it in an environment where it will have more space to hop around till the bloat subsides.

Cheers

is there any form of discharge from the rabbit be it blood or mucus, if not it's not the prevelent viral disease. With the symptoms you gave I'm suspecting bloating(check if the stomach is inflated), if it's bloat what you can do is give the rabbit antibiotics injection and pray make God take over, but if the Tommy isn't inflated it might also be coccidiosis, of which you have to place the animal on embazin fort treatment

I also heard if the rabbits are given freshly harvested grasses it can cause bloat too. It's best to harvest the grass a night before it's given to the rabbits

I don't know how much vet will charge me, i heard they charge exobitantly. Any idea how much they charge?
from your explanation, the rabbit is probably suffering from bloat. To be honest, the survival rate is very little, nevertheless you can get flagyl into water to drink and don't give feed for now. Try to be giving greens, tridax preferably

bloat is highly suspected here, it's a 50/50 chance, depending on the severity, I'll suggest you give it bitter leaf, if it doesn't eat it, squeeze the juice in it's mouth, them remove it from the cage and put it somewhere it can move around for about 2 days.

the actual cause of bloat cannot be ascertained yet but is mostly linked to indigestion

Do u suggest i take it to a vet?

To start with, have you checked the teeth for maloclusion?
Malocclusion causes the teeth grow abnormally there by making it difficult for the rabbit to eat.

Again, what type of feed do you use? Ready made or self milled? Your answer will determine the next response.

Lastly, it is true rabbit farmers have been experiencing a relative pandemic in the industry and efforts are in top gear to put everything to rest.

1) I think it has problem with his teeth.. Because if i force it to eat, it eats from a particular area. Please what can i do about that

2) i use grass and ready made foods.

3) sincerely bro...to breed rabbits no easy ooo

it's most likely bloat. If there are no predators in your compound you can bring the rabbit out of its cage and let it move freely and probably give it antibiotics but avoid pellicilin

Guy go to pet store and tell them the problem, calling vet is a waste of time, at the store they will tell you how to treat it, they will even tell you how to give it injection. Sometimes I do give my dog paracetamol, etc.

I don't think so. I've never actually experienced bloat from grass. However, it looks possible if the grass has been mashed for instance grass from lawn mowing. Such will easily ferment and produce gasses.

Do u suggest i take it to a vet?

depends on your pocket and how well you've bonded with the rabbit (pet) or how prolific it is (breeding).

on a neutral ground, I'll suggest you allow it free roam while providing it with water, if it shows signs of aggravating pain, slaughter it to the pot.

KC bloat is a drug you can get for it still.
nevertheless, the best way to treat bloat is to prevent is cos the chances of survival, whether treated or not, is 50-50

although very few rabbits show some sign of aggressiveness, they are very quiet and friendly.

i am not trying to wave aside your suspicion, but rabbits with teeth problem will constantly grind their teeth(you'll hear it), refuse to eat and occasionally drool saliva over their chin...

The virus going around is RHD. Rabbit Haemorrhagic disease is a serious and fatal disease in rabbits. It is also known as VHD (Viral Haemorrhagic Disease) and RCV (Rabbit Calicivirus). Until recently, the only strain of the virus present in the UK was RHD-1; however, a new (and potentially more dangerous) form of the disease was recently discovered, called RHD-2.

How is it spread?

The virus is passed from rabbit to rabbit by direct transmission and is present in all the bodily fluids (so maybe coughed, urinated, dribbled or defecated out!). However, it is very stable in the environment (it is estimated to last about 100 days at room temperature, and longer if it’s cold – plus, it is resistant to freezing). As a result, the main route of transmission between colonies of rabbits is by passive transfer – the virus particles stick to the feet of a bird, rodent or human, who then carries them to new and vulnerable bunnies. In the case of pets, not even house rabbits are safe, because the virus particles may be carried in on your shoes, clothes or even your skin. Short of full biosecurity precautions (foot dips, disinfectant washes and showers, complete changes of clothing) every time you visit them, there’s always going to be a chance you’re carrying this deadly disease into the house.

In a rabbit who has been fantastically lucky, caught the disease and recovered, they will shed the virus for at least six weeks (and possibly longer) so must be kept in quarantine for a prolonged time to protect other bunnies.

What are the symptoms?

To some extent, the symptoms depend on the strain of the virus, although the two are very closely related and therefore cause similar clinical signs. The most common symptom with RHD-1 is sudden death, often (but not always) with bleeding from the nose and mouth immediately afterwards. Sometimes, rabbits may last a little longer, perhaps even a couple of days; if so, they will be very feverish, depressed and lethargic,be prone to bleeding from nose, mouth and anus, and often will develop bruising under the skin or a rash (like in septicaemia). They will usually die within 48 hours of first developing symptoms.

RHD-2 is often slower (although sudden death does occasionally occur), with rabbits living for up to nine days before succumbing – the overall mortality rate, however, seems to be roughly the same. However, the problem with RHD-2 is that, because the rabbits live longer, they spread more of the virus around.

What is the treatment?

There is no treatment for RHD-1 or -2. Because the outcome is so unlikely to be good, and the severe suffering this disease causes, we may have to recommend that affected rabbits are put to sleep if they develop the disease. This is important on welfare grounds (the rabbit is very unlikely to recover, and will suffer unnecessarily), and also to minimise the risk to other rabbits.

Occasionally, a rabbit will have only very mild symptoms – these are likely to be those rabbits whose immune systems have been partially successful in combating the infection. In these cases, supportive care with pain relief, fluid therapy and antibiotics (against secondary infections) may be helpful.

Pictures below:

Going by the symptoms you stated, the rabbit is suffering from GIT, generally called BLOAT and this could have been as a result of overfeeding or under feeding, insufficient water, dirts accumulation, wrong feeding practices, feeding wet grasses. And this irregularity kills rabbits very fast. There the survival of the rabbit is a 50:50 chance as there is no guaranteed cure for it, especially when you don't on the first day. The best way to cure it is to prevent it from happening and when it does happen withdraw formulated feed from the rabbit and serve air dried or wilthered edible grasses, some farmers dissolve white flagyl in water and give twice on the first day then once on the subsequent days till the rabbit is fine, mixture of charcoal and about 1ml palm oil just once, aloevera and bitter leaf juice, cinnamon powder. You may be fortunate to have you rabbit's health back. All the best
