Hello good day nairalanders

I am having a serious issue concerning my love life. I have been single for almost three years now though just playing games .

At first I will start with the law guilding my village with a neighboring village . Something happened in the ancient history which made our ancestors to baned my community and a neighboring community from getting married to each other, getting sexual intercourse or even fighting and shielding any form of blood is a taabu and offenders faces a hard consequences not by humans but by the gods of the land.

Forgive my wrong English but pls try to understand what I meant above even if I don't know how to place the story. Over centuries , my village have been abiding to the law with the neighboring village . I have heard stories of people who broke the law and died in short period of time and the cause of their deaths linked to the Taabu commited .

But something about me and my love to be is that, e.g she is from A community called Abasa , inside Abasa there is almost 8 communities . Out of the 8 communities the ban was only placed on one community called Ojoka not to have sexual incoirse or get married with my community called Abirabe though we share the same local government. And my girl to be is not from Ojoka , she is from Agbodu which is also found inside Abasa. Because of the ban placed in OJoka and Abirabe, other part of Abasa are afraid to have anything to do with my community (Abirabe) but the ban is only with Ojoka.

So back to my worries .

One night I was indoor when my Friend brought in one girl into my room . He introduced the girl to me as his colleague at work . So as a visitor she is , we decided to entertain her, I sent my friend to go and buy some refreshment for our visitor . When he left, I interviewed the girl by asking her where she is from . Behold she is from Abasa community . Mehn I was so devastated , because I knew I can't have anything to do with her because it is a very big Taabu though I fell in love with her and she did too ..that night we talked about it and just concluded that we are relatives According to the law.

But as days goes on , we keep communicating on phone and sometimes my friend still brings her to my house. Now we have deeply fell in love with each other. At a time we started making enquiries to know if the law will hold us since she is not from Ojoka the main community where the baned is placed with my community Abirabe.

What do you think guys should I continue or quit . I have already asked her to be my girlfriend and she is still pending the reply while trying to get the right information from older people to see if we can date since she is not from the main affected community

I'd like to call your people archaic but then, that wouldn't amount to meaningful contribution. If the two communities are forbidden from getting married or fighting, it might not be because of a dispute in the past, it could be due to strong biological ties between the founding fathers of both communities (which shouldn't really be a problem now). But then you know your history better so I'm probably wrong.

Short answer:
I haven't seen any reason why you shouldn't date her. But please, let her be if you're the scaredy cat type and can't see it through. The emotional turmoil is not worth it.

Long answer:
A lot of people like me would be quick to ask you to ignore all those fetish stuff and date your love but I know it's easier said than done. If you start, can you finish? If you're this worried now, you'd probably be more worried after kicking off the relationship. You'd attribute every little thing that happens in your life to it. And in the absence of peace of mind, the relationship might get shaky.

But then again, going by your story, the purported curse placed on those marrying from the forbidden kingdom is not really your constraint since your girl isn't from there (except your gods have issues with geography). Your constraint is fear. Most times, fear is the only thing standing between us and the life we dream of. Do not let it deprive you of your joy. I'd say, do your research, talk to your people and ensure you're right about the actual forbidden kingdom and if so, move on with your girl. People will talk but that's fine, we always talk anyway. But most importantly, do not even start if you do not have the mind to hang in there when people start talking or if anything happens and your mind starts playing tricks on you. Don't mess with the girl's emotions. It's still early enough to take a step back if you're the scaredy cat type.
