I have a female house help thats 15yrs old. She is very intelligent, well mannered and speaks english but never went to school. Myself and my wife have thought several times on how to help her life and bring back her 'destiny'. We just cant put a 15yr old in primary 1.
How can i help her academically pls? I really want to help her life. I don't want to believe that its over for her school-wise.

NB: She spent 1yr with us 5 yrs ago but forcefully taken away by a wicked woman who was " trafficking them" when she found out we wanted to put her in school. She was molested in her new place and ran to us. Long story short, she stays with us permanently now cuz i went to cotonou last month and got permission from her father. How we got her dad's house and arranged the reunion is another long story.

Advise pls. Setting her up in business in future is not a problem but we want her to be educated.

Sir,
There's no short cut to excellent.
I recommend starting from primary 6 as she can read well.
This will her to get First School Leaving Certificate which is most often, is a prerequisite for so many governments jobs in the future.
Lastly as you have dream of bright future for her, may the grace to sustain it and financial demands be available to you.

May she turn up as a blessing someday to you nay your family.

It won't be easy but you can.

What a good family.

Register her in a school and explain to her that there is no shame in doing the right things and in time the inconvenience she has to endure will not matter anymore.

Alternatively, you could get her a private tutor and when it's time, register her for the FSLC exam if that's possible. God sees your heart and only He can reward you

register her for private lessons, she should start from primary 6.
also, register her as an apprentice for skill acquisition or a business

There are adult schools. Please take her to a well equipped adult school . There she can meet people her age and not feel bad, she can start in primary 4 just to learn the basics .

You and your wife have done well, Sir.

On schooling, it is not compulsory she goes to school. I mean formal/classroom school. A teenager who could run away from an abuser and trace your house after years isn’t a dull one. I guess you want her to be able to speak good English and solve basic mathematics. These things, though important- are gradually fazing out as a CORE. Get her tutors to teach her those basic things you want her to learn. After that, she should learn a SKILL. Ask her which skill she likes, they always have one.

She is 15 already. Even if she starts from JSS1, by the time she is done with NYSC, the Nigerian goal of attending universities to get white collar jobs would be defeated as she won’t meet HR demands- 25yrs with MSc from a reputable institution and 5years (cognate) work experience in the FMCG sector.

Home tutoring and skill acquisition is the way to go. I’ll also suggest you drop the house assistant tag. A 15yrs old child shouldn’t be assisting a house.

No need going to a formal school, get her a private tutor and register her for FSLC, after that register her for BECE,then let her learn a skill as well. When she's done with all these, she then sit for SSCE.

The best option is to get her a private tutor to access her and start coaching her intensively for common entrance.

Afterwards, she should continue being home schooled to fast track her to write junior WAEC. Then you can enrol her in school from SS1.

If she is as intelligent as you say, she should be able to catch up quickly.

I dont believe anything is too late.

I got my first degree at 22. Started working , made money, got married, raised 3 kids, built my house,2 cars and all but still decided to follow my childhood dream and went into medical school at 35. The average age in my class was 18. I wasn't ashamed. Guess what, I got inducted 2 yrs ago at the age of 40. Now a medical doctor.

This is the sole reason why i want her educated. She has me as a father figure, she should succeed. Just needed advise on easiest way to help her.

Thank u all once again

You can look for places where they attend evening classes

She can still be enrolled to primary four or five class fr their she will pick up since she can speak but I don't know how if she can write as well

Forget about her age ,if she is willing she will cope and still go to secondary school

Well done to you and your madam! Its a good thing you are treating her well cos she's still technically considered underage.

To get her educated is simple. Buy a small laptop or tablet and download a lot of educational videos used for adult learning or even children on YouTube. Get her to watch diligently and give her assignments. She will be better for it in no time... May God take care of yours too in a strange land. Cheers.

See, 4get primary nd junior secondary school certificate. They are useless.

Get her a private tutor to brush up her math and arithmetic, English nd literature skills.

After that, get JSS syllabus nd also get a private tutor to teach her everything it contains. All should be rush work.

Enroll her in SSS1 class. She should b okay.

AGAIN: Let her learn a skill like tailoring, decorating, baking etc. School alone now nor dey help anyone.

How did u do that shocked .
Thanks 4 ur reply in advance.

Sir formal education is a process. Start her with the basic ( primary 3). Please do not allow her to jump class. We are NIGERIAN, you can lie about her age but never advice her to jump class. I repeat FORMAL EDUCATION IS A PROCESS
Please she is not your house manager (house girl) but part of your family (adopted) child labor is a crime against humanity.

She can start by self studying at home through your younger children notebooks, textbooks and assignments. Or let her watch more videos on YouTube, then register her for primary 6 and after 1 year, she can do common entrance exam to JSS1

Thanks. My target though is to enrol her into formal education at Js3 level instead (cos of her age) so she'll be home schooled till she is able. 2-3yrs max. Do u think thats impossible.

Btw she has started private classes

I must commend you for your effort and good intentions...

You can enrol her in primary 5 or 6 for starts. Once she gains admission into secondary, let her write WAEC and NECO in SS1 (if she can cope mentally, but I am sure that she would be able to cope). God bless you!
