A football player in Osun State identified as Damilola, has slumped and died during a football match in the Ido area of the state on Monday, September 7.

According to IgbereTV reports, Late Damilola who plays for Premier Football Club Ofatedo, was about to pass a free-kick to his teammate during the match when he slumped. Eyewitnesses say he was rushed to a hospital closeby but was rejected and then he was rushed to the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology where he was certified dead. His team members say he never showed any signs of illness before the match.

Osun Grassroots Football Coaches Association Coordinator, Leke Hamzat, confirmed his demise to newsmen.

When you watch foreign matches this past summer, you will see them taking water break. Their weather is not hot like ours, yet they take water break

But in Nigeria, we will play ball under hot sun. If you say you want to rest a little, people will laugh at you. Call you lazy man. Call you names. Your coach will replace you saying you are not fit.

To avoid all these, people keep playing beyond normal limit. That's why they drop and die regularly here
