The above are not consumer complaints. They are official TSBs and recalls about the first generation ford which you asked about ozone0801
Re: Ford Cars Quite Explicit by valarinz: 6:44pm On Sep 20, 2020
Truth is : for every car model in this planet, if you look hard enough you'll find sites with negative consumer complaints to screenshot, doesn't prove anything.

It will be fine if we left the dick measuring contests though and concentrate on the cars that brought us here

Ikenna351:
You do realise you contradicted yourself. If you knew all Brands/cars have their pros and cons (positives and negatives), how come you didn't point out the positives of the Edge he indicated interest in? Instead you condemned the car completely with the long "No". An expert on the Ford brand will point out the positives and negatives concerning the Edge model the person is interested in and let the perosn decides if he/she is comfortable with the negatives and excited with the positives or simply walk away from the car for something else. You didn't give him that chance to make his choice and decision from options he is to be made aware of.

The thing with Japanese fans is they see nothing wrong with their brands yet always eager to jump in and condemn other brands. You claimed there were a lot of recalls on the car, what about the thousands or millions of Japanese brands/cars they recall yearly. You forgot to mention that as well? So if it's safe for people to buy the frequent recalled Japanese cars, why is it a problem to buy recalled Ford vehicles? Why singling out Ford only as if the Asian brands are saint in this matter you raised?

This idea of reliability when it comes to cars is stuppid to me, because its subjective. Hundreds, if not thousands, of foreign used (tokunbo) Japanese engines and automatic gearboxes are brought into Apo markets here in Abuja weekly. Yet, they are sold off within a week or so and another hundred or thousand batch are brought in the coming or subsequent weeks. Who are buying off these Japanese engines and automatic gearboxes from the sellers? Do people purchased and replaced a perfectly working engines and automatic gearboxes with used ones if they didn't fail? Yet these people would tell you there cars are so reliable even though they probably have replaced the engines, auto gearboxes or both twice, including everyone around them.

I know some Toyota Camry users that carry spare engine oil in their booths daily for top up. They top up their engine oils weekly more than they top up fuel tank, yet they only see problems with other brands and not theirs staring them back on their faces up and close.

If you are all for Japanese cars, there is nothing wrong with that. But understand that no matter how good you think they are, some people will prefer something different. Not every man wants to live by other people choice. I for one is a living example.

radautoworks:
I agree with you 100% if you want to get a lot of features for cheap, ford is your brand. ... I have owned only ford excursion, expedition and many E350s that we even exported to Nigeria because I know them from experience to be durable even if gas mileage SUCKS. The expedition for me is borderline but the excursion and the E350s are the best Fords.
radautoworks:
No doubt they load them with features on the cheap but fit and finish and quality is just not there. .
radautoworks:
They make some NICE looking cars but when it comes to reliability they get crushed. Again, I said for the MODEL he asked for, a resounding NO. it's a money pit.

EDIT: I should add that when it comes to the big engines (V8 and up) and DIESEL, ford is ahead of the game. Their F350 trucks and E series vans are workhorses and will last forever as long as you do routine maintenance.
NO PROS YOU SAY... WHAT'S THAT ABOVE? Also, where did I say anything about japanese cars? For that matter, where did I say ALL Fords?

It has become a dick measuring contest, soon might turn to how far can your pee go contest.

None of these distraction will give meaningful content to other users trying to educate themselves about cars.

This is the thread for Fords and three are others for other brands.

Takata airbags affected a lot of brands.
If Ford use transmission from Aisin that is partly owned by Toyota, and Jaguars, Toyota has transmission from the same supplier how do you claim for is bad?

I think we should stick to the possibilities of what can go wrong with a ford model and the cost of correcting such things.

I agree but I didn't start it. Do you agree that if you're going to get a Ford edge you shouldn't get the first edition? Because that was the genesis of all this.

If budget were a constraint then why not, else I'll go for the second generation, they're cuter and more loaded.

As for the other questions of consumer complaints and reliability, you'll have to understand that most Nigerians buy these cars when they're at the last lap of their lifetime anyways, we mostly don't care about all those things that bothers the westerners (eg plastic interior build quality etc).

We just want something that looks good and can take us from point A to B and we'll find a way to keep it that way till the car finally gives up. The first generation Ford Edge still does that quite well over here in naija.

Also note that most of those complaints that are on the screenshot you provided must have been handled already(via the recalls mentioned and by the owners abroad) before the car even gets to naija(we buy mainly used or salvage cars) , you'll mostly have to worry about those stuffs if you're buying brand new.

Oh,my gosh, this lady is trying to run out of this competition by democratically bringing up flimsy excuses ,it's now that you remember that you have family after that big talk ,i would have let you of this hook you were trapped , because when it comes to family i will be helpless in that aspect because . families are the gift of God .What are all the Savage car TBSs you brought ,you can deceive some people but not me ,I want you to present to us the real TBSs direct from Ford motors Corporation America, because i have my own oasis from ford. Companies 1,2,3 and so on are meaningless without being properly baked , not how big but how good. You said big words and summary , if people had headache about my write up they would have complained , it takes time to write memo but few seconds to read through and understand and it will be interesting ,I had already known that you are a vehicle sales personnel in which I will not compete against you in that , so stop these excuses and lets continue are text contest

You talk about Diagnosis and rebuilt , you made terrible mistake by asking such a question to someone like me , you are not in the right position to ask such, you would have got the best engineer to do that for you because you are a marketer , I strongly believe that you must have known what kind of stuff am made of when it comes to technology yet u asked the question .Right from the beginning of this contest i have been waiting for you to digress a bit from marketing into technology and you walked straight into my trap .I will explain my ways of diagnosis of electronics and rebuilding of assemblies on motor vehicle , but in basic , because if i should go into hi-tech , your head will be dribbled and you will get lost along my explanation .As per diagnosis and rebuild , I will take it from higher model upwards from 2016 up and talk of just one section of vehicle diagnosis and rebuilt . The POWERTRAIN which is most important to all car owners and fearful to mechanics , i will break it down for you to prescision to expose your inferior diagnosis and rebuilt you carried out in your company like random mechanics will carry out diagnosis and rebuilt , then all vehicles owners can also learn good stuff on hit-tech.

POWERTRAIN
Sub divisions of powertrain
1. Engine -mechanical
2.Engine attachment -electromechanical
3.Transmission -fluid mechanism
.Transmission attachment- electromechanical
5.PTUE- electromechanical
6.Drive/Propeller shaft -mechanical
7.Axle/final drive -mechanical
8.PCM power train control module -electronics
9.BCM body control module -electronics
10.Wiring lines/harness -electrical
11.CAN control area network -octa -binares message
12.LIN local interactive network -binaries message
Why was it named powertrain by all automobile manufacturers, because the volumetric efficiency of engine measured in litres or capacity is converted into thermal effiency and then to horse power in kilowatt then stored in engine flywheel and transferred in chain movement from engine No 1 to No 7 final drive and assisted by No 8 to No 12, fso it's chain or train movement.

I will pick each sub-division topic one after the other and explain how i normally carry out my electronic diagnosis and rebuilt of assembly far differ from your inferior diagnosis and rebuilt . You cant stop me , it will reveal your lackness, ,but i have to go now, I need to go to my office now , apologies to all viewers , I will make sure to talk about the powertrain in any of her quotes here .Thanks

Good morning everyone.

Quick one, we all remember that she said most ford owners got their cars for them to resort to cheap repairs, means that she doesn't do cheap repairs, I hate it when someone is to proud, particularly in area which isn't their specialty. I will definitely bring such person to his/her feet.

Please help me ask her if she really understood the meaning of cheap repairs she mentioned, she doesn't do cheap repairs but she rebuilds, too ridiculous. I can't understand why she's going front and back from her words like oscilloscope. it not a surprise because she can market products very well. As for me I do both big and cheap repairs ooooo. I don't claim to be big man oooo.

This is getting more interesting, I have been doing my repairs consistently in one corner at low key, I wasn't conversant of marketing, but she just came from no where and poke mose, luckily for me she begins to advertise me and making me popular, I didn't know it was so sweet like this to be popular, I won't let this opportunity slip.

As for the POWERTRAIN lectures, we shall do that at my leisure after which I will come to her thread and bulldoze every watery and wrong information about automobile techniques there, including those brands she claims to know best. Bulldoze and correct all auto tech errors in there.

Yes, you didn't state any positive concerning the first generation Edge (even in your posts above you quoted as an evidence). And I mentioned Japanese vehicles because that's where it's usually lead to from people claiming other cars in other brands are not reliable.

If you are to define reliability to me, are you saying Japanese vehicles with automatic transmission issues don't visit your workshop? All these threads & posts littered in Car Talk concerning Automatic transmission issues, what percentage of them are Ford Edge and what percentage are Japanese vehicles? Who is buying of those Japanese Automatic gearboxes and Engines they are shipping in in hundreds and thousands weekly/monthly? If there is no demand for them, why would the sellers invest in such businesses, when there are other brands? If they are not failing or giving the owners issues, why are they replacing them? Why single out Edge as only vehicle with automatic gearbox or Engine issues when reality in Nigeria (Abuja to be specific) proves otherwise?

First generation Ford Edge had 3 different petrol engines? If one of the engines is prone to issues, are you saying the rest of the two are as well?

First generation Ford Edge production lasted for about 8 years. Are you saying there was no improvement and changes between or from the 2007 - 2014 productions? If yes, isn't it the Ford specialist to point out those improvement rather than condemn all first generation Ford Edge? Isn't it obvious you simply don't like the vehicle and basing your professional advice on personal preference rather than objectivity?

80% of the time, issues used vehicle owners go through or experience are usually non related or different from initial complaints first users lamented, like the one you screenshot and attached. A Ford specialist would have no business with online car reviews, for he would experience things differently while on the practical.

As for the build quality of the first generation Edge, I can't tell if it was advertised and sold as a premium vehicle. Was it?

There were so many negative online reviews or things said about all Peugeot Vehicles I currently own or have owned, yet I have never experienced any of them, even as they age daily. Do you think I would based my knowledge and professional/expert recommendations to other people on Peugeot cars to buy or not to buy based on those online reviews or knowledge gathered from my own personal experiences and experiences gathered diagnosing, repairing or working on other people Peugeot vehicles?

I mean, I know two women that own this first generation Ford Edge here in Abuja and they don't look miserable to me. If this generation of Ford Edge is as bad as you claimed, the misery will tell on them. Because of this, I will talk to one of them about her ownership experience so far on the vehicle and post her response here, no matter how positive or negative they are.

I will also look for some online positive reviews from users of this particular Edge generation, screenshot and attach them here as well. Focusing, posting and pointing out only the negatives means you really not an expert on the brand. Leave it for one who is to do his thing.

People were complaining in the past that they have no access to Ford technicians or specialists. Now someone is providing that solution, but you don't seem to like it. Ford is his passion, he said, what's wrong with that? If your own career is your passion as well, who gets to decide whose passion is bad or inferior?

This thread is about stepping out of the norm (popular car brands in Nigeria). I like and encourage people like that in their venture. Not every man has "follow-follow" mentality. Again, I for one is a living example. If you are not ok that Ford is his passion and happiness, what would you say about Me and Peugeot?

She just went to website picking negative views of individuals repairs centre, am still waiting for you to present to me the recall campaign and technical service bulletin directly from ford corporation, am not surprised, she came from there and had a workshop over there.

How many of their blunders we do correct here in Nigerian workshops, most repairs they do over there, immediately you pick the car from the ship, you would be very disappointed in their workshops repairs.

How many of the vehicles stability systems I have corrected in my workshop that they repaired wrongly and unprofessionally.

I still need strong proof from you to back up your negative claims, and don't forget DIAGNOSIS AND REBUILT are still pending.

Re: Ford Cars Quite Explicit by Ikenna351(m):
My Conversation With A Woman That Owns 1st Generation Ford Edge (21/09/2020)

Part 1 (Phone Call)

- Monk: Hello. So, someone is interested in buying a Ford Edge like yours. And since the brand is not my area of specialty, i decided to ask you since you are a user.
How is the Ownership Experience of your Edge has been so far?

- Woman: Honestly, I don't have anything to complain about the car.

- Monk: You mean no headache ascribed to the ownership of your Edge so far?

- Woman: Not at all. Of course, I have done some repairs on the car ever since I own it. But nothing major to complain of.

- Monk: You mean normal wear & tear?

- Woman: Yes.

- Monk: What About the Engine & Transmission? Has any shown sign of strange or peculiar issue?

- Woman: No. Both mine have never shown any anomaly I can think of. In fact, the A/C is powerful in chilling and never gave A/C problem (about 3 or more years of her ownership of the Edge).

- Monk: I think these are basically the things i wanted to ask you about the car.

- Woman: Ok. No problem.
However, the maintenance cost is higher compared to Toyota vehicles like RAV4 and others.

- Monk: You mean the cost of maintaining the Edge is higher than similar vehicles of Japanese brands?

- Woman: Exactly.
You remember i used to own Toyota RAV4 before i upgraded to the Edge.

- Monk: Yes, I remember.
Any other thing you would like me to tell the person concerning the Edge from your first hand experience in Nigeria?

- Woman: Well, I am a happy owner of the Ford Edge and never had course to regret the ownership. But I would suggest anyone interested in getting one should go for one in good condition to really enjoy the vehicle like I am enjoying mine.

- Monk: Ok. Thank you.

Part 2 (One-on-One)

Later in the day (towards evening), i met with her to continue the conversation:

- Monk: So, I saw your vehicle at Car Park and decided to come in and ask more questions.
What is the fuel consumption of your Ford Edge like?

- Woman: It's higher than my former vehicle (RAV4). Wouldn't know if it's because of the size though. But I gathered Vehicles in these sizes (CUV & SUV) usually consume higher.

- Monk: Yes, the size may contribute to the higher fuel consumption. It also can depend on Engine sizes or Engine powers, since your former vehicle had 4-cylinder engine. It's your Edge a V6?

- Woman: I wouldn't know if it's V6 or 4-cylinder.

- Monk: Likely a V6, because I saw All Wheel Drive badge on the vehicle.

- Woman: Where is the badge located on the vehicle?

- Monk: At the rear. I saw AWD badge today when I took close attention to your Edge for the first time. The AWD stands for the "All Wheel Drive".

- Woman: Ok. So what does it mean?

- Monk: It means each of the wheels on your Edge propels the vehicle (depending on the system design), unlike your RAV4 that had probably only 2 Wheels propelling the vehicle. The AWD usually consume more fuel than 2 wheel drive vehicles of same model and engines.

- Woman: I now understand what the badge means.
Notwithstanding, the difference in the fuel consumption with the RAV4 is not that big of a deal. It's really not much to complain of.

- Monk: Ok.
So, you said the maintenance cost is higher. How high? Can you give an example?

- Woman: Let's assume a part in my former RAV4 cost 50k. Same part in my Edge would cost about 60-65k.

- Monk: Ok.
What about the repairs you have done so far on the vehicle you talked about earlier. Can you point out the ones you consider major?

- Woman: Well, I have done suspension (shock absorber) repairs. Also, there was a time my steering (probably she meant rack) had issue. My former mechanic couldn't fix it well. I changed mechanic and started using a Ford mechanic that does only Ford Car repairs and he fixed the steering issue for good. I can't think of any other repairs or replacements worth mentioning.

- Monk: From all you have said, its not a bad car then.

- Woman: Yes, I am really happy to own the Edge.

Please tell me, all those Fords you are fixing, is your work warrantied or people just keep paying while you trial and error to figure things out? Can you actually diagnose and give an estimate that remains fixed for the repair before starting repair or is it nickel and dime as you go along? My labor is warrantied 90 days on ALL jobs. When we rebuild engines or transmissions -do you rebuild or na so so change-change you sabi- it's a one year warranty. What warranty does your engine work carry?

My friend, since you decided to reject the olive branch and it seems like na to die upon this matter dey do you when you said Ford is as important as your family, I've decided you are not worth the time and my time is better spent with my family who I haven't seen in 8 months. If I choose to debate, it will be someone in the same footing. You and I are not the same. This will be my last post to you.Go start from the beginning of my thread maybe you will receive sense. undecided

P.S: see how easy to read my response was? Using big words does not make you seem more intelligent especially when you use them incorrectly. Please practice for your future interactions so people don't get a headache trying to follow your writing.

Sultaan and ozone0801 this is what I was talking about when I told someone to stay away from first generation ford edge and stated reaping insults because of it. I wouldn't have posted the actual TSBs and recall notifications but they are way too many and lengthy. The links below summarize them in an easy to read way.

If I didnt know the OP, I would have been worried about this post. But being someone I have worked with both Professionally and otherwise I will resist the urge to Shalaye....

You give 90 days warranties, I give 1year warranties on engine rebuilds that where fully paid for with no discounts.....

TSBs and Recalls do not happen for us here in Nigeria because we majorly do not buy brand new cars and even when the cars are bought brand new, the dealerships find a way of wiggling out from fulfilling their duties....

90 day warranties on labor on any job. One year on rebuilds. Agree with you on TSBs. Before you judge, back up to see how we got here o. I think I was actually pretty restrained in my response grin

Ikenna351, Lion King - Monk.
Can we all see these conversation with Lion King. I also have a lot of comments of ford owners from nairaland that have been to my workshop for repairs on my WhatsApp group, I will screenshot few and post, let's see who is that person condemning ford and trying to discourage ford owners which is the main topic of our contest

I agree but I didn't start it. Do you agree that if you're going to get a Ford edge you shouldn't get the first edition? Because that was the genesis of all this.
Just stop, what do you know about Ford, you keep hammering on first edition (2007 - 2010), when I post comments of people using first edition in my WhatsApp group,, you will realize that all your claims are untrue.

Nooooo, I didn't even realize about labour and parts warranty you mentioned in the page were you blabbed about competence in DIAGNOSIS and REBUILT to someone who could be your lecturer in that scope.

You give 90 days warranty on labour, that means, if the vehicle came for same work after 90 day you would charge another FRU for same work done, it meant you failed the customer for second payment on same work according to Nigerian mentality. why should the car comes back for same labour after 90 days, it meant that it wasn't done properly and became a return job. it's agreed that TSBs gives specified warranty according to manufacturers, but you giving 90 days on labour, it mean you are far below my tech capabilities.

You have a lot to learn from me. I don't give warranty of 90 days I give warranty on labour till the life span of the particular part that was worked on. I know there might be a return job but insignificant number and if any vehicle comes back for same labour, it will be done free until the part expire and minimum duration is one year and above.

Do you care to know how I don't normally have return jobs, because I handle the tools my self and work directly on those vehicles along with my mechanics, So my mechanics don't dare mess with me and when it comes to most complicated jobs, that's beyond their capabilities, I revive such vehicles myself. All my write up are the real truth about me, almost 20% of my customers are from nairaland , they are watching, if I gave any false information, they would accuse me.

Agreed that you're a lady, it doesn't count in automobile, I trained a lot of Lady engineers when I was workshop manager of COSCHARIS , I trained them to handle basic tools and scanners on vehicles competently, because I would not sit down in my office like other managers. I always work on vehicles every day from 25 years ago till date except Sundays and festive.

I don't think you do that, I believed you only boss your mechanics around and mechanics can be so funny, what if the information they gave you were wrong, you would put it down on as black and White, then you would be using such theory to defend your course.

Make a comparison, someone says "WE" have been fixing this vehicles for thirty years in America and the second person says " I" have been fixing it myself for 25 years. who really knows the job among the two.

"WE" might be receiving wrong information from the subordinates in the group and be giving theory to the world, we don't need theory here please, be it extracted from website or anywhere.

What engineers and car owners on this forum need is someone who is good in the theory and at the same time can practice it personality on their vehicle for them to enjoy their rides.

It's hard to know who is speaking just theory in this forum, but their must be proof from cat owners.
