I hope the younger generations will learn from this. Education is not just about acquiring qualifications, it is about learning to be productive. Theoretical knowledge should be an advantage to refresh your skills in order to have a better chance in the society. Most of today's graduates are simply not employable given our poor and static education system. The world has gone beyond simple paper certifications. Skill sets should be the first indicator rather than relying solely on paper that can be easily bribed to get in Nigeria. I remember before I graduated my EDP was already opening my eyes to business. I developed and started production of paintings via EDP. Learn something that will add value to your life. No one wants to hirer a liability. Going to school is very important, so creating value makes you competitive |

It when he joins you now that u will get to know if the certificate he claims to possess matches his intellectual capabilities. Many graduates I had cause to interview do not intellectually qualify as such. If truly they did they wont even be unemployed. RedPanthar: |

Life rewards your education as opposed to your qualifications! University qualification is not really necessary but your education - some of which is usually to be introduced in a formal educational setting - is what matters most. Have you built your capacity to solve any problems? You will definitely be employed or better still be an employer, if you can demonstrate to yourself or to any organisation that you have some developed capacity or even some potential to solve an existing problem. Yes, the university system in Nigeria can be crappy but it's real value is to teach you how to think. That's why you learn all sort of abstract concepts without any seeming application to real life but it is to expand and develop your capacity to think and solve problems. And that is all you need to succeed in your life. For full disclosure, I used to be a lecturer in the university. My life changed as a student when I discovered this fact and I made sure my students understood this clearly. I have left teaching but I have a good number of successful humans calling to thank me for good education. If you want to talk, you can reach out |

nBag:The person you quoted is right And you are DEAD WRONG! Most mathematics teachers suck in this $hithole country I don't know much of elsewhere Their empty headedness lack of pragmatism and outdated way of teaching and mentality has bred a generation of Nigerians that HATE mathematics and have no interest in it If not for stumbling on some very good textbooks And learning mathematics in my own unconventional way I would have fallen in that bracket too. Mathematics teachers need to step up and improve on their delivery Period! @Tobechi74 You are spot on jare I know what you are trying to say And where you coming from |
