Untill a woman become an imam or Oba in any Yoruba land then young Adichie can intervene in issue as this. She's wiser than your generation

What are we saying, what is this one saying?

Chimamanda is everywhere running amok with feminism and women rights in oyinbo land but back home her people hold on to a crude culture of denying the girl child any form of inheritance. If it's not hypocrisy on her part, then I don't know what else to call it

Both are actually insane.
The 59 year old woman who is fully in control of the property claimed that the property was placed in her custody and the brother shouldn't gain access to it.
While the brother took laws into his hands.

Stop telling others that their tradition is stupid and useless when you have equal and stupid tradition in your culture.
Devout same energy in fighting to stop barbaric tradition from your own culture.
AntiWailer:

Stupeed and useless tradition.

Women can inherit the poverty and take over the burden she knows nothing about in the event the father dies early and leave behind a whole local Govt for her to take care of.

Women has no say but they are allowed to go and prostitute to take care of a stroke ridden father and other rats he gave birth to when some situation warrants it.

The earlier u people throw the useless tradition away the better.

Women are vulnerable that is why they die in a useless man's house despite abuse.

I already willed my first house to my first daughter. Anybody who give her any stress should be shot at sight.

Read the article again, the woman is fully in control of the father's property and doesn't want the younger brother to gain access because as she said "was placed in my custody"

Place in custody is different from willed to.

As for me, it is already in her name. So spot the difference.

Not going to raise useless boys any way, but incase anybody start any rubbish, it is very clear.

Few weeks ago, I read an article on the decision the Supreme court gave on the note of women inheriting properties in Igbo land and I was just laughing because I know it'll never work.

Many women were forming women right activists, celebrating joyfully over the news on social media with non-Igbos and non-traditional Igbos.

Bruv, there are traditional doings that can't be stopped by social media arguement and ranting.

Not even the Federal government can give women access to their father's properties when there are men in the family. In the settings of inheritance in Igbo land, a woman has no say. The earlier y'all accept this the better.

Most of the things women advocate on social media are things that will lead them to frustration or to their early grave when practiced in reality. Let social media ideas end on social media if you want to live long in this county.

Once upon a time...it was weird for women to vote. Be part of the decision making process of a nation. The pro active actions of women lead to the gradual and eventually, complete overhaul of such blockade. Same can be applied to this inheritance thing. The old fashioned men of yon won't be around forever . The new and upcoming generation will be different. Such traditions won't persevere. Change is constant.

The difference with me is that I don't follow any stupeed culture or tradition, I use common sense.

Ask urself if it is fair that Ur sister can be a prostitute to take care of her siblings because she is a woman but have no say when it comes to properties because she is a woman.
(Not literarily talking about Ur sister )

Just think about it.

Remember there was no document to prove that the father willed everything to her. But even if he did, is it right for him to totally exclude his son from the will?

It will not work only when the victim didn't seek redress in court.

That supreme court judgement worked for the lady that took it there.
So why won't it work for others

She's only in control of that particular property. Maybe that's the only property their dad had .

Since you are an advocate of not allowing daughters get an inheritance from their fathers properties

That means if such a woman is in a good position like being a president, vice, governor or senator, she should never allow her fathers family members to benefit from her positions as the case may be

Change your mindsets that's a very stupid decision

The Yorubas that gives their daughters a share from their fathers properties have already seen tomorrow

Me am Ibo and I will give my daughters whatever I give to my sons

you get sense....................... cool

Only a useless man will be fighting for his father's property. Go and use the training he gave u to acquire yours too.

I inherited nothing from my father and that was deliberate despite all he left behind.

Abi oh, honestly we have been blinded by feminism that whe forgot that misogyny can be targeted at both sexes.
Even if she has a document to prove it, is it not the same thing the feminists are fighting against? How can a man totally exclude his son from his will for the favour of his 59 year old daughter

I am Igbo and I can tell you that the tradition that says women should not be given inheritance should be amended to take care of some of the new realities.
The proponent of the law is not entirely wrong but some amendment need to be done.

He has the right to exclude anybody he wished from his will.

He sweated for it and can make that final decision.

The boy should go and work for his own and make his decision too.

The problem in most families as regards inheritance is lack of understanding and tolerance. I advice every male child to struggle and make his own assets and not to waste his his fruitful years. Also most male children are fund of selling of the assets and squander the proceeds.

Unless the Mr Francis was useless to their father when he was alive which made him transfer his properties to the daughter, the father no try at all.

There is no reason for you to take this personally, just call a spade what it is and move on.
The woman should share whatever is the property with her brother. You don't know the financial status of the brother and how well he relates with the members of the family and denying him such might ruin his chance of becoming anything meaningful in the near future.
My brother sometimes it is not good to judge everything from your perspective. So because you did not inherit anything from your father another man will not while his 59 year old sister takes everything
