My name came out on the last admission list so they were already weeks ahead of me.

My first day in class: I was shuffling between the registration center and class.

I was really a very shy person, finally located the class midway lecture.
You know those kind of silence when you can hear if a needle drops ,I peeped through the window .

See crowd! . It was a faculty course so more than 3 departments were in the hall .I prayed in my mind while walking in ... Nobody at the front seats wanted to shift for me .

The lecturer ( with microphone on) said "you people think you're still in your village secondary schools,you'll suffer ehhhn , imagine coming to class when the lecturer is almost rounding up ,this is UNIPORT ,go and ask about me ".



I was so embarrassed ,with over a thousand eyes staring at me.

I had to move/sneak from table to table before someone finally shifted a bit for me to sit.
She became my best friend in school.

Fortunately she was in my department and stayed at the hostel I was given so she made it really easy for me to catch up.

It made me go to classes very early ...it's either I was waiting for the lecturer to arrive or I was coming in with many other students. .

That particular lecturer became my Mentor and monitor because he's from my village and knows my dad .

Mine: I was very happy to be in tertiary school. I ironed my clothes and groomed myself very well.

Of course, we carried big bags of books to school. How naive! That was how we recognized freshers after that.

I remember waiting for the lecturer in the auditorium for GNS 101 and when he came sb tapped and said “pa pa pa pa pa, class greet” and the whole misguided flock responded ‘good morning sir' in unison.


Baba laugh us die.

On my first day we had GST101 at about 8AM. I woke up around 4AM, prepared and got to school 6AM.

I initially thought I would be the first to get there but I was surprised by the numbers of students that were already seated. After taking my seat a certain man from the street whom everyone of us thought was a lecturer, came to sell his books titled "English and Englishes."

After successfully convincing us that one could be sent out of the university for not passing English, everybody in the hall bought the book with fear.
I bought the book with the last card I had on my wallet thinking it was my textbook for the semester. Little did I know that the man is well known for scamming freshers. He smiled cheerfully, counted and made away with thousands of naira under the watchful eyes of everyone in the hall.

The useless book was less than 15 pages containing trash upon trash. I had to throw it in the nearest trash can.

Sparogatively, my first day in the university I was just pissed!

"Is this what they call a University?"
"Blocks of glorified nonsense!"

Many of this Nigerian 'prestigious' Universities are living on past glories. Almost everything is substandard! Unconducive lecture halls meant for 300 students is forcefully made to accommodate 1300 students without adequate sound system to support.

Anyways, I didn't come to look at buildings and learning facilities, so I faced what I came for (to learn) and made my really good grades!

I resumed late, so I had to call my secondary school mate who I wrote aptitude exams with in the same department.... I was fortunate that he resumed early and now knows everything...


Anyways na Absu...

I entered a bike from my hostel to lecture West and the bike man went round the school three times before dropping me in the lecture hall and asked for 400naira...Something that is 50naira na after the days lecture wey I just follow one path road waka with my gee e no reach five minutes I don show in front of my hostel I was shocked....

As a novice wey no sabi anything I gave him the money and swore not to enter bike again... Instead I go use leg waka all around am...

Went into the hall and it was all noisy, acted like a king and natural respect the follow me. Its just the looks..


It took me time before making friends though... The pack of friends I be wan join no dey accept me and truly I was a misfit there so I made my own pack...


It was tough

My first day was my breakthrough day because it actually set the pace for me. A Professor of Guidance and Counseling walked in and asked me "What are the three areas of human learning?". I told her I don't know. She then said to me "a mere looking at you, I thought you were bright, is this simple thing you don't know". it was as if the ground should open let me enter. the class became very tense up because students were anticipating what next could possibly happen. But from that day I vowed to graduate with the best results in that department. All thanks to God I became the most popular, most soughted, most consultated student by students. I wrote assignments for students, I tutored some and went as far as becoming the President of that department, Sole Administrator, and till day Professors in that department still love and honour me. I end up winning on everyside and graduated with strongest 2.1.

Got to the hall about 2mins late and the first thing I noticed was how much the males dominated in numbers
The hall was sha almost filled, only back seat rows were empty. My shy self was even kuku happy. I found a nice, whole empty row and went to sit in the middle so nobody will find a reason to talk to me.
That's how this Caleb guy sitting in front of me started turning his head to strike a conversation with me haaaaa! I was so shy and tense that I couldn't even look at him, even for my lips to move and respond to him was problem.
When I now finally managed to mouth some words, I told oga to face his front and concentrate on the lectures

I came all smelling roses, aiming for the top, as a go getter, I became more popular and liberal to the extent, I was given the course rep during my year one, things were going as anticipated until I saw my year one result, I swear the thing humble me no be small

Well I won't blame myself, coming from a poor home with you to fend for yourself and little or nothing to fall back on throughly got into my nerve and wrecked havoc.

Las Las man go dey alright by His grace, now in 3 hundred lv though, still pushing...

Hmmm my first lecture then was GST101 Use of library
I was like which one is this am I studying science to be a librarian
Me and a guy I met(we were both lost fresher's) found our way to the lecture hall. We were late so as people were entering we just followed it was weird af
Got a seat around the end of the class, took my note and 10 minutes later the class was over.
It was pretty interesting but before I got to the lecture hall was war
