The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, in a press conference held October 11, 2020, has announced the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The IGP says officers captured under the special police unit, SARS, will now be deployed for other purposes and a new anti-robbery squad with the same objectives as SARS to be named later.

Great news. However, we shouldn't relent. Focus should now be on SAKS, SACS, and other dubious units which may be inclined to take over from SARS. The former SARS officers should also be assessed well before redeployment to any unit that deals with civilians.

Many people may think that this achievement is small or inconsequential but rest assured that its impact is in the message that was sent. The message was strong and should be enough to scare anyone who thinks that civilians have no rights. In fact, the government as a whole should be scared of this success.

A United voice of reason cannot be defeated. This is Victory for sane Nigerians and shame for sellouts who for peanuts sell their conscience to slavery and perpetual sufferings.

If this is The Presidency being true to themselves, then this is the best news any Nigerian youth can possibly ask for except those who have ASUU messing up.
A lot of people keep insisting that SARS been disbanded will lead to rise in crime rate ,then I have a question .
What is the work of the police?Is crime and armed robbery control not part of the NPF duties? In the absence of SARS in the 1980s , who carried out their duties ?
Disbanding the SARS officials wouldn't increase crime if the police do their duty of which they are paid by our taxes.
Let us not be blinded by religiosity or ethnicity or continue suffering from senseless reasoning. You don't allow your kids killed and your daughters raped because you want to stop armed robbers

All in All , it is a big win for unity. Both Afonja, Aboki,Deveropers contributed and fought against NANS PRO, Arewa Youth Forum and Prosars. This should be the start of great things.

The problem remains unsolved. The personnel will be reintegrated into other policing organs as directed by IGP.

My point is, the PERSONNEL of NPF and the SYSTEM are the problems. These guys will continue in another form. Ending SARS without reforming NPF is "cosmetic surgery ". Just like treating symptoms instead of the diseases or causative factors

Is this disbandment the accurate solution? Can the police come up with a unit with disciplined people to fight crimes and also respect the Nigeria people? I'm just thinking aloud because there are so many criminal minded folks in Nigeria
