I think those opposing the new unit are not sincere about the real demand they protested for.
In no time in the history of Nigeria a police unit with these characteristics was ever set up. The Police boss said “The Unit, which is domiciled with the Force Medical Department and coordinated by the Force Medical Officer, has its membership drawn from amongst psychiatrists, psychologists, medics, pastors and imams, Public Relations practitioners, Civil Society and other Human Rights groups with relevant qualifications and expertise.
May be those against the new unit doesn't need police again!

But must Nigerian police copy names from external bodies, they copied the name SARS from "Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome" which was a respiratory disease that affected people in China in early 2000. Now they've copied the name of the new police unit from the USA SWAT team?

Name change isn't the problem but a structural reshuffle.The underlying problem of policing in Nigeria is multi facetted.Proper funding,increased welfare,better renumeration and clearly defined Life insurance policies for the police will change the mind set of the rank and file of the Nigerian Police force.Until this conditions are met it's gonna be same old Nigerian Police force.i rest my case
