EndSARS: My Wife Is Protesting, I Earn N64,000, Bought My Uniform - Policeman by ogododo: 10:02am On Oct 16, 2020
A policeman has disclosed that his wife is taking part in End SARS protests.

In an interview with DAILY POST, he expressed sadness at the state of the Nigeria Police.

The citizen, a Sergeant, said he joined the Force in 2006.

He had his first child in 2017 and now has four kids.

The policeman recalled that his salary for a few years was N8,000 and later N12,000.

“I am not happy about the situation of this country. My wife is protesting. I cannot be there but when she told me she wanted to go, I didn’t stop her because the situation affects her.

“After 14 years in service, I am still collecting N64,000 per month. Not just me, others in my set too collect the same salary. It doesn’t cover anything. I have four kids, I am paying rent, school fees, feeding my family,” he said.

He revealed how officers pay for things the police should provide for them if the system was working.

“We buy our uniform, others can confirm this. My beret is N4,500; the buttons on the shirt is N3,000; the full Khaki is N8,000; you have to buy your rank logo N600; sewing is N3,000; Boot 18,000,” he added.

The Sergeant further decried how personnel are left to take care of expenses after postings to commands and formations.

“When they release posting, they don’t give us money. You are on your own, you bear all the costs. How will such a person not use the few days he has left to hustle. You must fend for yourself.

“Most times, they tell you to resume within 3 days to 1 week, without accommodation and financial assistance to relocate. The issues are too many. Do you know we go to buy the paper used for complaints at police stations? Paper!” He stated.

Asked to comment on welfare support for ailing and deceased officer, the policemen shook his head in regret.

“If any of us die, we usually make contributions to assist the family because they may not get anything for years. Imagine! Somebody that died serving his fatherland. We have seen cases where superiors demand for sex from the widows.”

The policeman expressed excitment that End SARS protesters include increment in Police salaries in their demands.

“It is very good and I am happy about it. At this point in Nigeria, nobody should get below N100,000 as monthly salary, the suffering is too much, prices of everything have gone up”, he complained.

The excesses of the notorious Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) has triggered unprecedented demonstrations across the country.

The campaign for police reform has gained global attention and coverage.

Now Day 9, thousands of youths are participating in rallies and have vowed to continue until all demands are met.

The five conditions are: Release of all arrested protesters; Justice for all victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families; Establishment of an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of accused officers.

The protesters want Psychological evaluation (to be confirmed by an independent body) of all disbanded SARS officers before redeployment, and Increment in Police salaries.

They believe officers must be adequately remunerated for protecting lives and property.

No fewer than 10 Nigerians have been killed since last Saturday.

Some idiots are still satisfied with the status quo of the country...

Somebody is receiving 29m monthly just for shouting yee or nay but a police officer is receiving #64,000 after more than 10 years in service with poor living conditions

The protest is making the govt sit up because most of the activities Esp to get revenue has been disrupted...

So if u are angry at protesters, u can as well give us better ideas to get govt attention or just shut the fvck up

Be there complaining abt the protesters infringing ur rights when the govt tramples ur rights every day and u can't say anything

Chai....what a country. Honestly, the animal zoo seems better than this human zoo. I for pity the police but they transferred all that aggression on innocent Nigerians.
Imagine the senior officers even demand sex from widows. Animal zoo is better.

What if there is twins or triplets in the births?

This Nigeria isn’t safe for the citizens again. Hence the need for multiple birth cos of our low chance of survival.
Anything (like SARS) can kill any of them before adulthood reducing the children to 3 or even nill before the parents die cry cry cry

If these have been their reasons for brutalizing and extorting the citizens, why can’t they just also join and support this protest or arrange their own protest to present their demands to the government instead of disrupting ours.

Minimum wage only gets reviewed once in decades while the rulers update their own salaries even before inflation sets in.
This is a foundational problem and not just a police problem alone. Lecturers too are there crying because inflation is rendering their salary incapable of buying their basic needs of life. Doctors too, school teachers, civil servants in general and even SMEs. The leaders are quick to disconnect themselves by increasing their pay and looting enough to cover their future needs. It is a deeper foundational problem.

The childbearing-pocket size curve grew exponentially. The reason is simple. As poverty level increased upon them they started having more children. The reason poor man will have 30 children but rich man will have 2-3.

Have you met Frank Mba, Dolapo Badmus or Abba Kyari?

When you do, you will realize that it is poverty that is making most of the policemen you meet look the way they look.

Senators and Lawmakers earn fat salaries and bonuses and still somehow ironically collect hardship allowance.. Yet most of the masses who face the actual hardship have to make do with peanuts

I have a friend in NAF. She gets 40,000 per month. There was a time she told me NEPA came to cut their light in Barack because they were owing. I was shocked. I said electricity isn't free in Baracks? She said they paid for everything including camo and other uniform.

That shows the level of hatred we all have for one another in this country. Their bosses collecting good money. Govt doesn't care about them. It is so unfortunate.

My dear compatriots. We all have to sit down and deal decisively with our common problem. That is corruption. Corruption everywhere. From bus conductors to mechanic to business managers. You can't run a business successful because of corrupt elements you will employ.

We have accepted corruption to be a normal thing in the society. When you try to put it right, people will tell you to cast the first stone. "This one is a mumu. You can't make it in life. Bla bla bla".

PHCN = Corruption
Police = Corruption
Food sellers = Corruption
Road construction = Corruption
Airport officials = Corruption
Lecturers = Corruption
Pastors/Alfas = Corruption
Local govt = Corruption

....... nairaland MODs = Corruption.

We all have to hold corruption by the jugular. Shout at anyone that is corrupt in your midst. Discourage corrupt people. Go and group to tell a corrupt lecturer that he is corrupt. Be in group and chase a police office who is demanding for 50 naira on the road. Form a group and challenge your local council chairman of the projects. Form a group in your state level that will ask state governments about promised projects and on and on and on.

By that, we will all get serious someday and do the right thing.

Get rid of corruption at all levels and live a better society.

restructuring is better than disintegration, each region should have their government managed their resources provide security for their citizens, except army, airforce and Navy should be control by the federal government, every region should generate their income and pay tax to the federal government. With this you will enjoy what we called united in diversity. You will know that our population alone is an asset and that's why the whole world still respect Nigeria.
