I work on Upwork and I receive payment directly to my Nigerian bank account. Directly. I just click on the get paid button and the money comes straight to my account here in Nigeria. Ask any Nigerian who works on Upwork. I use a Nigerian IP. Getting customers is difficult Nigerian or not. The freelance market sells based on trust so for a newbie it's tough but once you can get intiial reviews that show you do good work, you easily get clients. There are Nigerians who have made over 100k dollars on Upwork. A Nigerian I know joined Upwork in may. He has already made over 10000 dollars. E dey.
I'm curious, What does he do?

Software development. Dude was lucky to get a full time job paying 25 dollars per hour. Not everyone has that kind luck beginning.

Wow. That's a lot of money. Good luck to him.
I am currently learning digital marketing I don't want to work as a freelancer at Upwork rather I intend to work remotely as a paid intern for companies abroad. What do you suggest, is it advisable?

It's not easy bros you go apply tire. There's marketing jobs on remote sites but not easy to get.

Yes I know, and I don't expect it to be easy but I think it's easier getting a remote job as a paid intern than freelancing on upwork. What do you think?

Both hard o. With remote jobs just expect to be applying to at least 10 jobs a day you might get one before the end of six months sha. It's not easy especially in marketing. Upwork needs money. When you join you are given 60 connects which can only let you apply to like 10 jobs after that you need to buy connects. I always advise people to keep between 50 to 100k to get started on Upwork. Some people are lucky to get a full time hourly job in their first try but that won't happen to everyone.

Jeez. I used to think getting an intern job would be easier.

Not easy bros especially for Africans. Many of the jobs that are remote eventually require the workers to be on-site and it's not easy for an African to get work visa. Useless passports all around. Brazilians, Chileans, Uruguayans, Europeans and many Asians don't have that problems because even if they are needed onsite they don't need visas only flight tickets. But don't let it dampen your spirit. It's a numbers game las las but you need to play a very large amount of numbers as an African.

You have a mobile phone in your hand (technology) but you complain that food prices are exorbitant, why not use your phone to download food? Nothing will ever replace agriculture and Nigeria has comparative advantage in agriculture much more than we do in technology, why shouldn't we leverage on that?

Why are Nigerians above the age of 40 so unfortunate and extremely stupid. You guys were born when the British left Nigeria. They handed over a country with dreams and a bright future but you managed to ruin it and wreck it for future generations. Your mates who also took control of their countries in the same time periods have built their nations to first world status while you have generated poverty and hopelessness for Nigerians. Most millennials were born from 1985 to 1995. What did we meet? Honestly this country has been a shithole from birth and it has managed to get worst in recent years. As of last year I could cook a good meal with 1000 naira. It's impossible to do so today. How much do I make? What is the average Nigerian salary? How many jobs even exist in this useless shithole.

The most annoying thing about this failed generation is they still have mouth to talk back on the youths that the youths are the ones who ruined Nigeria. Ruined Nigeria with what. Look at the fool called myBraine. How can one person be so foolish and he thinks he's making any sense. Nigerians should be excluded from technology and embrace subsistence farming. Please name one country in the world where subsistence farming made them a trillion dollar economy which is what Nigeria desperately needs for our booming population. The endsars protest going on go and check the people against the movement are Nigerians within that age range. People that feel that you can't make any money online. They don't know the world has changed. They don't know it's possible to sit down in Nigeria and work with big companies in silicon valley and earn millions. They don't know the millions many people make monthly trading crypto and Forex. When bbnaija was showing they said the youths are distracted now it has ended and the youths are out and you are abusing them.

Nigerians above 40 why are you so unfortunate? Your mates built south Korea, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam you guys left poverty for all of us.
I think you mean why are your parents, family and relatives so unfortuante? Oloriibu ni ebi e.

According to BBC the real problem is the Nigeria economic system.

Nigerians voted for people with outdated conservative economic mind set ( farming, raw material exports like crude oil etc) that cant help them develop a 21st century economic system that grows mainly on information technological advancements that involves coding, web development, app development etc..

So u see why immediately the police sees u with a laptop he doesn't knw that u are growing the economy because of the outdated system he jst labelled u a criminal... yahoo yahoo..

Immediately they see a young man below 30yrs with a brand new car, that doesn't happen in the older generation.. in the older generation u must suffer then clock 40+ b4 buying a second hand car..

but here comes the new generation that can design an app from his bed (without going to anyoffice to beg for job), sell it to the world make millions inless than 2yrs after school and he driving a brand new car.. that's a taboo in the older generation..

So we are experiencing a clash of different economic generation..

No one talked subsistence farming . Subsistence farming is for the Stone age.

Italians will be rich forever because they have established that their contribution to the world is fashion - Gucci, Versace etc . Americans and the whole world spend billions for these designers. Whether you are in America or India you'll pay a high price for their fashion. Americans buy more Italian clothes.

French have established their multi billion dollars wine empire - champagne, ciroc , Remy martins etc. no Country on earth can beat them.

Germans have established themselves as automakers. Even Obama granted American Ford and other American car producers tax free sessions and they couldn't match up to the German automakers and structural engineers.

Switzerland rule wristwatches. From Rolex to Richard mille . Top 20 wristwatches in the world are Swiss.

America is home of Internet technology and air engineering. That's where they have left their mark.

Africa is where the raw materials and semi finished goods should come from. We can produce cotton and silk from Calabar and strike a deal with the Italian clothe manufacturers and they will readily accept because it is cheaper to produce cotton here than Italy .

We can export the millions of barley grains to the French wine Manufacturers

The steel mining and factory in Nigeria could supply Germany with the steel for car production.

The gold in Zamfara should find its way to the Swiss watch manufacturers for good cash.

If we must produce finished goods we should target local and regional consumption as the white man I have lived with won't consume finished goods from Nigeria at the moment.

If Séun and Dangote and BUA were all Americans, SéUN would be 100 times richer than them. He is not richer than them in Nigeria because they are investing in Exactly what Africa should be investing in.
Nice one boss

Hmmm, how many people had the N250 to buy a telly back then? How many? May be 1% of the Nigerian population (mostly those living in Lagos). And who told you all these LIES about people having access to opportunities, environment bla bla bla? Who told you these lies? They had needed things? Are you for REAL?

All the conditions you highlighted above can be found in almost all developed countries (I was in almighty California in January this year). Same story/conditions...RELATIVELY speaking of course but not different. A lot of Nigerians live better than Americans and Europeans but you don’t know that.

The reality of life is that most people will be poor (many Americans are very poor) regardless. The truth is no government on earth can provide its citizens the perfect conditions to thrive. It is an individual choice. Choose right bro.
The wretched poor man who chooses to have 8 children and sinks himself and his family into further poverty and misery IS NOT your headache. Those who live in slums somehow end up there as a result of the choices they made somewhere along the lines.

Nigeria has NEVER been perfect and the problems you are experiencing today were much less because the vast majority of the population were living in the villages back then.
I have been reading your posts and I understand your argument.

Truth is,

They have an element of truism.

But you need to understand what these people are saying.

The generation from 50 had everything they needed to build a truly prosperous nation. What did they do?

They plunged the nation into war with various coups and counter-coups. They called the whole world to Festac in Lagos and spent billions celebrating. One of them said the problem wasn't money, "but what to do with it".

These greedy fools dolled out millions to other African countries in aid. To point out, most of them enjoyed free education.

Then the SSCE certificate had so much value. After graduation, you are immediately given a car a job.

Our lecturers then in school shamelessly told us tales of how they were fed in school by the federal government. With chicken laps o... All you needed was a meal ticket.

Education was cheap and free with several opportunities for the educated.

One of the big fools brought the SAP programme which further added to the impending doom.

You all watched on. You may say you protested and got us democracy. But who pushed us into anarchy in the first place?

What about our contemporaries at the point of independence?

Singapore, a one city state came out from Malaysia(which thrives on palm nuts) and see where they are today.

I hope you are getting our frustrations now? The only advantage we have over the older generations is just the internet.

If I had taken all the advice given to me by my parents and uncles, I would still be far behind today.

That generation failed us and we don't want to fail our children.

I am in no way trying to exonerate yahoo guys and other scammers.

And yes, people can make legitimate cash from the net. Earned my first dollars from Upwork.

We have rich and poor, slums and posh areas everywhere. But the question is, what is their percentage when compared? I hope you also know we have relative and absolute poverty?

MOST of them there their poverty is relative. The reverse is the case here.

Actually older generations destroyed this country. those in their 20s and above after the independence misused opportunity they had to transform the country. those they were born in 50s and 60s were lost generation. they were misled by earlier generations. those that were born in 70s and 80s were old enough to see transition to civilian rule and witnessed struggle for democracy. most of the lead activists campaigning for restructuring of the country are in that age group, likes of segalink, dele farotimi, Oracle, Nnamdi kanu, Joe aba, beautiful nubia. they were fighting for the future of their children many of whom are still in their early childhood. those that were born in 90s are confused generation. in their childhood, they witnessed military regime and early civilian rule. but those they were born in 2000s are mixed generations-indomie, reformers and criminals. this generation is interested in radical change. generation of 90s and 2000s are likely to reform the country through revolution because many of them are hopeless and hustlers. they are being targeted by police as being criminals. they would revolt and generation of those born in 70s and 80s would support them morally and financially.
Why is that most of the Nigerian rulers/presidents that have served the country were old generals? Yet the elders demand respect?

GOOD THING YOU'RE ALL REALIZING WHAT I'VE BEEN CAMPAIGNING AGAINST SINCE THE DAY I WAS BORN.

RESPECT YOUR ELDERS IS A SILLY SOCIAL CONSTRUCT DESIGNED TO KEEP YOU BELOW YOUR PARENTS, TEACHERS, LEADERS, AND PREACHERS FOREVER. THEY'VE LIVED THEIR LIVES AND NOW WANT TO LIVE YOURS FOR YOU, AND AT AGE 30+ YOU'RE HOLDING ON TO THE SAYING THAT "WHAT AN OLD MAN CAN SEE FROM HIS CAVE, A YOUTH CAN NEVER SEE EVEN FROM THE HIGHEST OF MOUNTAINS".

YOU'RE A DISEASE IF YOU REFUSE TO BREAK FREE FROM THE CHAINS OF THESE OLD FOOLS.
ELDERS IN UK AND ASIA INVENTED THINGS FOR THEIR YOUTHS. OUR OWN ELDERS ARE EXPERTS OF OWAMBE, PALMWINE, AND PROMOTING SUPERSTITIOUS BELIEFS AND TRIBALISM.

THE NIGERIAN SYSTEM TODAY IS "ANTI-YOUTH" BECAUSE THE OLDER GENERATION ENVY US. KNOW THIS, AND STAND YOUR GROUND BECAUSE THESE OLD CARGOES WILL RUIN YOUR PLANS AND THAT OF YOUR CHILDREN UNBORN.
I agree, In other parts of the world particularly the West. Respect is not demographically influenced. It doesn’t matter the age, sex, religion, race ethnicity or even nowadays sexual orientation. They try to be as egalitarian as possible. Respect is based on your actions.

This whole respecting your elders is truly a foolish rule that has allowed the elder to maintain an oligarchy/elite whereby they control all the wealth and power.

Based on your calculation that gave rise to above summation, it is not hard to conclude you are one of the banes that stood in the way of progress for Nigeria. You cannot even apply derivative arithmetic to surmise the age of most Nigerians born before or after British granted independence to the country. At least, anybody with age of 55 years was born 5 years after British granted independence. How could Nigeria even begin to lay foundation of progress when the crop of the cream such as you cannot make use of simple extrapolation. Granted not everybody has the sense of numbers as evidential with your above post, however the basic knowledge of simple arithmetic is required in building foundation for national growth.
