BlueBanana:Software development. Dude was lucky to get a full time job paying 25 dollars per hour. Not everyone has that kind luck beginning. |
| Re: Why Are Older Nigerians So Unfortunate? by BlueBanana: 9:14am On Oct 17, 2020 |
tensazangetsu20:Wow. That's a lot of money. Good luck to him. I am currently learning digital marketing I don't want to work as a freelancer at Upwork rather I intend to work remotely as a paid intern for companies abroad. What do you suggest, is it advisable? |
| Re: Why Are Older Nigerians So Unfortunate? by tensazangetsu20(op): 9:20am On Oct 17, 2020 |
BlueBanana:It's not easy bros you go apply tire. There's marketing jobs on remote sites but not easy to get. |
| Re: Why Are Older Nigerians So Unfortunate? by BlueBanana: 9:25am On Oct 17, 2020 |
tensazangetsu20:Yes I know, and I don't expect it to be easy but I think it's easier getting a remote job as a paid intern than freelancing on upwork. What do you think? |
| Re: Why Are Older Nigerians So Unfortunate? by tensazangetsu20(op): 9:34am On Oct 17, 2020 |
BlueBanana:Both hard o. With remote jobs just expect to be applying to at least 10 jobs a day you might get one before the end of six months sha. It's not easy especially in marketing. Upwork needs money. When you join you are given 60 connects which can only let you apply to like 10 jobs after that you need to buy connects. I always advise people to keep between 50 to 100k to get started on Upwork. Some people are lucky to get a full time hourly job in their first try but that won't happen to everyone. |
| Re: Why Are Older Nigerians So Unfortunate? by BlueBanana: 9:36am On Oct 17, 2020 |
tensazangetsu20:Jeez. I used to think getting an intern job would be easier. |
| Re: Why Are Older Nigerians So Unfortunate? by tensazangetsu20(op): 9:44am On Oct 17, 2020 |
BlueBanana:Not easy bros especially for Africans. Many of the jobs that are remote eventually require the workers to be on-site and it's not easy for an African to get work visa. Useless passports all around. Brazilians, Chileans, Uruguayans, Europeans and many Asians don't have that problems because even if they are needed onsite they don't need visas only flight tickets. But don't let it dampen your spirit. It's a numbers game las las but you need to play a very large amount of numbers as an African. |

Karleb:You have a mobile phone in your hand (technology) but you complain that food prices are exorbitant, why not use your phone to download food? Nothing will ever replace agriculture and Nigeria has comparative advantage in agriculture much more than we do in technology, why shouldn't we leverage on that? |

According to BBC the real problem is the Nigeria economic system. Nigerians voted for people with outdated conservative economic mind set ( farming, raw material exports like crude oil etc) that cant help them develop a 21st century economic system that grows mainly on information technological advancements that involves coding, web development, app development etc.. So u see why immediately the police sees u with a laptop he doesn't knw that u are growing the economy because of the outdated system he jst labelled u a criminal... yahoo yahoo.. Immediately they see a young man below 30yrs with a brand new car, that doesn't happen in the older generation.. in the older generation u must suffer then clock 40+ b4 buying a second hand car.. but here comes the new generation that can design an app from his bed (without going to anyoffice to beg for job), sell it to the world make millions inless than 2yrs after school and he driving a brand new car.. that's a taboo in the older generation.. So we are experiencing a clash of different economic generation.. |

ibedun:I have been reading your posts and I understand your argument. Truth is, They have an element of truism. But you need to understand what these people are saying. The generation from 50 had everything they needed to build a truly prosperous nation. What did they do? They plunged the nation into war with various coups and counter-coups. They called the whole world to Festac in Lagos and spent billions celebrating. One of them said the problem wasn't money, "but what to do with it". These greedy fools dolled out millions to other African countries in aid. To point out, most of them enjoyed free education. Then the SSCE certificate had so much value. After graduation, you are immediately given a car a job. Our lecturers then in school shamelessly told us tales of how they were fed in school by the federal government. With chicken laps o... All you needed was a meal ticket. Education was cheap and free with several opportunities for the educated. One of the big fools brought the SAP programme which further added to the impending doom. You all watched on. You may say you protested and got us democracy. But who pushed us into anarchy in the first place? What about our contemporaries at the point of independence? Singapore, a one city state came out from Malaysia(which thrives on palm nuts) and see where they are today. I hope you are getting our frustrations now? The only advantage we have over the older generations is just the internet. If I had taken all the advice given to me by my parents and uncles, I would still be far behind today. That generation failed us and we don't want to fail our children. I am in no way trying to exonerate yahoo guys and other scammers. And yes, people can make legitimate cash from the net. Earned my first dollars from Upwork. We have rich and poor, slums and posh areas everywhere. But the question is, what is their percentage when compared? I hope you also know we have relative and absolute poverty? MOST of them there their poverty is relative. The reverse is the case here. |

joyandfaith:Why is that most of the Nigerian rulers/presidents that have served the country were old generals? Yet the elders demand respect? |

CAPSLOCKED:I agree, In other parts of the world particularly the West. Respect is not demographically influenced. It doesn’t matter the age, sex, religion, race ethnicity or even nowadays sexual orientation. They try to be as egalitarian as possible. Respect is based on your actions. This whole respecting your elders is truly a foolish rule that has allowed the elder to maintain an oligarchy/elite whereby they control all the wealth and power. |
| Re: Why Are Older Nigerians So Unfortunate? by Sladem05: 8:42pm On Sep 03, 2024 |
Well they're actually more fortunate than you because they got better education, had access to jobs and have got less time to deal with the current dysfunction that exists in the society. They caused all of that, all of the thieves of Nigeria are OLD |
