How cn we progress as a nation with all these atrocities

Well, the US is still prospering...and lots of police atrocites have happened in the US AND are still happening.

Prosperty of a nation is tied to the government allowing the local capitalists to be prosperous. Here in Nigeria, we subsidse power and petrol. And as a result, we have bad power sector and bad petroleum sector because it isnt profitable to produce power and petrol in Nigeria, and that has an impact on jobs and the like.

Meanwhile the US that mosst of you admire does not subsidse fuel, power, collects taxes heavily (even with Trumpian tax cuts), thus allowing the economy to be profitable, and powering growth.

Also, economies that are proserous make products that the world needs, and sells them at prices that they control. They are not like Nigeria that sells crude at a price we can't control....and the little control we had via OPEC is dying by the day.

A lot of atrocites have happened in prosperous nations like the US, China, etc. Even relatively nice contries like Japan have a very harsh police and law and order system (if the police arrest you in Japan, you are guilty till proven innocent). They prosper because they remain productive , not because they have nice police (Even their relatively strong independent legal efforts to hold the police to account as seen in the US is to maake the proles happy, not because of some commitment to human rights)

Can there be a truth-reconcilation panel for SARS victims where guilty operatives are charged and killed. ?

Well, the principle behind the original truth and reconciliation commison was that offenders confessed their crimes in return for amnesty.

In a very few cases, some were refreed for prosecution (eg Biko's murderers)

Dear AntiBalaka,

You have genuine intentions, and #EndSARS appreciates your comments

Those #EndSARS placards is what is creating the platform for people to come out now
The 'podium' you spoke about is present at Lekki #EndSARS freedom gate, large screens showing victims of police brutality
More of these would be coming to other protest locations
See we are all contributing together
Just some moments ago, right before I logged in to NL, I came up with something close to what you are saying but to be in printed form, and I will do it as my own personal contribution to the #EndSARS struggle
What I am saying is, you can do what you are asking for by yourself while also suggesting it
All of these #EndSARS thing came from personal efforts
And it is working and working well

Welcome to #EndSARS AntiBalaka. Your #EndSARS No is ....... grin

Some of the people that got killed by stupid SARS are robbers truly, but the way SARS are doing thier duties is very wrong ,they don't have any right to kill anybody or steal any money from them ,that is why God is judging them now ,but to say the reality its not all those that got killed that were saint ....but the situation in Nigeria just be like armed robbers killing armed robbers ...

I don't think there is any Nigerian policeman that will receive grace from God. Any one of them that EVER has killed or robbed innocent people, must die a painful death. Nobody should pity any police man that dies in any form. Rest In Pieces should be attached to their grace. May hell fire be the place of their rest. May devil receive the souls of any policeman that has killed an innocent person in Nigeria IJN, Ameeeen.

You are expecting much from a budget that is one fifth of what the NYPD spends in a year.....

Note...I am not excusin the evil of the police or the government. I merely point out that if you want a well functioning police, you have to have enough funds for a start.

And our police force needs money in the trillions of naira. Before we can even get a standard police force. self. with all the trimmings...

Modified

Does your average policce station have enough cash for stationery, talkless of cameras. And we haven't even started about the power for the cameras to function self....
Hear yourself. What they spend is yearly is largely on recurrent cost. What I suggested is capital cost intensive but recurrent cost friendly. There are great cameras everywhere and cheap storage devices now.

While she was talking to me, one of the policemen collected the phone from her on the ground that she didn’t have the right to talk while they (policemen) were there.

Places like Nigeria should only exist in movies and not real life. These stories are just too sad.

Well, I have heard myself......and I still stand by what I said.

Before we even talk of how the police spend their money...the truth is, the money they get in the first place won't be enough to fund the police forcees of an average American state (Remember your original comment used the US as an example of good policing).

Cutting recurrent expenditure won't make things better.

The NYPD is one of the US's better police forces. They police the city of New York. Their budget for last year ? $6billion. That's nearly one quarter of Nigeria's budget for everything, police and army inclusive. Our police getless than one billion dollars to police the whole of Nigeria, with at least 150 milion people.....

And you expect them to be like the US, on that slim a budget.?

We have to vote in leaders who make our economy prosperous , and who start rasing our tax to gdp ratio, among other things, then we can get a sensible budget, then we can get cameras in every room in your local police station.

The sad thing is that they still loot the money, despite the low level.

Nigeria, despite all we say and do and think, and no I AM NOT DEFENDING ANY GOVERNMENT PAST OR PRESENT, thank you, is not a rich country. We are a poor country, whose leaders and followers bicker over a non-existent national cake.
