Sparogatively, the whole issue boils down on the political relevance of Nigeria to America, which in recent times have been close to the zero percentile.

On the other hand, South Korea is a very strong ally to the US, and this is evident in the US military presence with over 14 military bases in the country. The US disagreement to support Nigeria's candidate is more political than the 'trade-experience' reason they are presenting.

If eventually they support NOI, it would be because she recently just got her American citizenship.

I also heard Trump's administration doesn't trust lifeless things! ... whatever that means to you

How do you go to bed knowing well you wrote thrash on Nairaland?? Delete

According to the US NOI cannot engineer any major reform in WTO(Dafuq do they mean by this). The US only need a puppet they can control regardless of the rubbish excuse they present.
Unfortunately some deluded fellows here think US is God's own country and have failed to see through US hypocrisy because of religious sentiments. Had NOI been a Muslim, this same deluded fellows will believe she's a potential terrorist.
Whatever happens to one has the possibility of happening to all. MRS NGOZI OKONJO IWEALA is the next WTO-DG whether the devil and it's sister agents like it or not.
Most often, our reactions are base on sentiment. Inasmuch as I love Iweala to be the DG, look at the points made by the USA.

This is not racism but because Nigeria is not a reliable ally. This was manifested in UN when Nigeria voted against USA and Israel.

Spot on.
We are not a good allies with the US compare to South Korea so why will they support us? It does not make economic sense.

This is all about protecting national policy through a trusted ally. Nigeria is not a trusted ally. Somehow the position of backers, both the US and EU, align with those who support nationalism on the American side and those who support Globalisation on the EU side.

But Ngozi is an American citizen.

The US is a very big player when it comes to world affairs and in no instance would be relegated.

NOI is Nigerian-American, the western media would tell you eventually if she wins. America doesn't have much to loose, IMO no matter what plays out they would still be the winner!

This is the negative impacts of evil politics in Nigeria.

A serious country like USA will not only see just Okonjo for the job, but want to weigh her national background.

What this woman is facing now at the international realm, but that is what the nigerian youths face everyday in the course of looking for jobs.

As far as employers of labours are concerned, Nigerian BSc is now SSCE; MSc now BSc.

If an experienced job candidate from One man business applies for a position and another candidate with experienced with Multinational company. Surely, they will employ the second candidate.

Sorry for NOI, that is why we must all end bad government.

You want a country/president that has classified Nigeria as shit hole; fantastically corrupt of which you were a Minister, to vetoe you.

This really pains me. Really I do not have any personal touch with NOI, but I love her achievements, but a pity, you are promoted by a dead president supported by Professor of Law and Pastor.

Again, the government of your country just commited genocide against her own citizens.

Okonjo-Iweala is NOT yet DG of WTO and Trump Opposes Her

By Farooq Kperogi

Almost every Nigerian news outlet is reporting that Dr. Ngozi Oknonjo-Iweala has been appointed DG of the World Trade Organization. This is inaccurate.

According to Bloomberg, preparatory to the WTO General Council "tentatively set for Nov. 9" during which a final decision will be made, the WTO reached a consensus decision to appoint Okonjo-Iweala as its DG.

However, "the Trump administration said it won’t back the appointment of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to be the WTO’s next director-general," and "will act as a veto that disrupts" her consensus nomination, according to Bloomberg.

Trump's most idiotic supporters in Nigeria come from Okonjo-Iweala's natal region in the country. Let's see how they'll twist this.

Talking nonsense. I am not surprised. Inferiority complex is the true reason why you are saying that. Who is US against the whole world? What can US do if the whole world stand against it? US hates Nigeria because Buhari is not as ass-licker, a leader that stands with truth. US is a bully and the whole world knows that.

If US succeed with this rigging. Then I see no reason other countries should not withdraw their membership from WTO. This is an eye opener to those who thinks Trump is interested in anything good about Nigeria. They went rejoicing and hailing Trump, simply because he insulted buhari. I wonder what they will do now that he is insulting our revered Okonjo Iweala.
You think this is about your stupid country. Don't comment on topics you know nothing about.

Your assertion is completely wrong including the analysts unprojected judgement on the issue. Nigeria is the strongest ally of US in Africa and the trade between Nigeria and US has rose above any other time in the recent decades. Forget abt China mobile phones and petty trade Nigerian do with China, agriculture, spare parts of industries and heavy duty machines and weapons Nigeria buy from US make greater difference. US is just looking for someone who will depend their interest amidst difficult trade battle with China.
The confused gullible dullard Trump who is always supported here by his fellow dullards has shown his real face. The hater of intelligence, racist who isn't even aware of his mission to destroy his country's foreign diplomacy. He has done it with WHO which is headed by African, Ethiopian & perhaps he'll fail again with WTO.
