If government schools were good who will go to private school?
Now you wanna dictate to private schools how much to pay.

They are not dictating to private schools how much to pay but how much to receive for school fees. That's the news I read

Trash, will the state govt help in paying the teachers or recoup the Covid loss?
Parents can always take their wards to another school if they feel the fee is too much.
Besides, the govt should also standardize govt schools to compete with the private, that's the ultimate solution.

Kano Government should face their public education and let the Private School be.
The problem with Nigerian Govt(State and Federal) is that they have not even managed the Public Institutions well but will be looking at the Private in order to cajole them. The private Institutions are partners--in-progress,not the other way round, except the Govt want egunje from the Private Union.

use your common sense nah.

A term is usually around 4 months. And now they are using less than 4 months to do two terms.... shouldn't the fees be reduced?

Government act , problem. Government doesn't act problem too.

I think Nairaland comment feed should be removed so we don't see thoughtless posts anymore.
The point is market forces should determine if there is reduction in school fees and not government. Government should have no business in the aspect of private school fees.
What do I mean by market forces, I mean eg what other schools are paying in terms of reductions. The option is there to move your kids to schools charging less due to the circumstance. That threat of loosing students will make your fees competitive. The PTA also has a say as the group of parents can call the school to order. That is the way to go.
Note that some schools might try to expidite the school curriculum by holding eg weekend zoom classes, lessons and hence incure expenses. Are you going to curtail their activities because you want them to reduce fees by force.
Point is leave it to regulate itsself.
Nursery section of school I know about reduced fees by almost half since pupils resumed late. Lagos state government did not need to regulate.

The Government should rather support the private instead of cancelling third term. Cancellation of a term will add to the number of terms already lost the the lock now

Nigerians (maybe not you...) are capable of incredible cognitive dissonance. We all accept the sorry state of public primary/secondary education. Never mind that this sorry state was caused by their foolish clamor "free" education. At the same time, they vilify ASUU for being the last defender of public tertiary education. But for ASUU, the same phrase I highlighted above would apply to public tertiary education.

By the way, I realize that you may well be sympathetic to ASUU's cause. Your comment just brought out my simmering disappointment with the state of the nation, especially with respect to education.

Prof, very celebral and insightful.

You are right my bro....But proprietors are greedy....they introduced 3rd term and make it 10 weeks and 2 weeks holidays ..... subsequent terms too will be short do that they can pay their teachers salaries even during Corona but they won't.

Private schools are all about the money. They don't give a damn and they are worse than the government we criticise. This is a deep analysis of public versus private school dichotomy. Wife wants private school even though the husband who is paying the hundreds of thousands prefer a good public school.

If the State Government is sincere an wants to help then the should give the private schools some sort of tax waiver and enforce a 25% fees reduction.

If you cancel third term the students lose more.

Critique + solution = best comment.

This government never ceases to amaze; when you feel they've hit rock bottom, they just find a way to go lower.

Be reasonable in your comment pls,how much is the salary of a private school teacher?
This proprietors can best be regarded as 21st century slave traders,a school that collect 40k to 60 k per child is paying teachers 15-18k with a killing work load, this guys are capitalist.

in the statement, explained that the decision of the Ministry became necessary in view of the ongoing difficult economic situation, following the lockdown due to the menace of COVID -19 which affected both the socio-economic position of the general public..... and your wicked boss hiked the prices of petrol, electricity and food items, without you looking at the bolded statement. This is a pandemic situation, Oga. Even in complete capitalist countries, they regulate the private sector during disaster.

The US government regulated hotel accommodation during one of the hurricanes.

Private schools will not take full school fees when they didn't follow the complete syllabus. Working for one month and mandating parents to pay full fees.

You're actually one of the stakeholders in private schools nowadays who has turned out education to another business venture.

Like seriously you wrote the above in reference to me?

Ie "poverty will not make me understand"?
Or that I my education is inadequate, or I went to money making one and not knowledge based?

Oga, I by God's grace certainly arent associated with poverty.
As per who is better educated between you and I, i reference your above writeup as evidence.
