Update

I just left first bank's head office in my state and I spoke with the operations manager.

She begged me not to write to first contact and copy cbn that the guy is a family man and that his salary and position is too high for what he is doing.
She said he will be fired if I SEND that mail that I should give her today and tomorrow to talk to the guy and let him know the implication of what he is doing and that everything will be reversed and she took my number.
Meanwhile,I tried printing out a new tbills cert but the lady in charge told me she can't print as it has expired in september but she checked her system and gave the the date I invested and the date it expired. She asked me a few questions and said she will mail treasury head and copy the guy to find out what is happening.
Good thing is "he is still their staff and not yet fired" cos someone said earlier here that I should pray he is still with them
The operations manager also confirmed he is having marital issues right now but also said it is not enough reason to tamper with my money.

You need a copy of the loan documents to know the terms of that loan and if the Tbill was used as security (and how it will be released when the loan is fully repaid or cancelled). That’s the key document that has to be reviewed now. Request that immediately.

If the Tbill is not included in the loan documents as part of the loan transaction, then you should be writing to First Bank’s head office in Lagos if Treasury released the funds to the guy. That is fraud and not something you should be reporting to the branch in your state where staff members will always look out for each other.

Just like I suspected, you were and are acting on compassionate grounds. Okay give them till tomorrow as the ops Mgr said, but what happened to the initial 12 o'clock deadline?

I said after 12noon and I don't get alert that I will visit their head office and write a mail if not satisfied with their response but the ops mgr really pleaded on his behalf to give her till 2moro to call him.
I will still them 2moro if I don't hear from them, then I will use the opportunity to request for the loan documents
To be honest,I am being hesitant to write the mail because I know it might lead to his firing and I don't want any one to loose his or her means of livelihood on my account.
But if after tomorrow and I am not comfortable with the ops manager's handling of the case,I WILL have no option than to mail their head office in Lagos and copy cbn
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by XiaoLi: 2:37pm On Nov 12, 2020
Don't handle this kind of issue with emotions, do what you are supposed to do immediately to recover your money, the guy in question has already messed up by tampering with your money so i don't think it's bad if you take actions that will get him sacked. Nobody dare try what he did in countries that understand the meaning of consequence, this action can even land him in jail in some countries.

I think we are too religious in Nigeria and this has affected us so much both physically and mentally, someone is messing with your hard earned money and you are concerned that you dont want anything that will get him sacked, I guess this thinking is caused by religion beliefs.

It's called "humanity" and "giving chances".

She still plans to go ahead with her threat in case she's to be taken for a fool, it's normal she trying to have it all cleared without any long term damage as much possible as she could try until she's left with no choice(tomorrow ultimatum), clearing her conscience that she tried.

I'm no religion affiliated, agnostic. Thank you

Too much 'i beg, na the devil push me do am' in this country whereas the person actually knows what he/she is doing at the point of doing it. When they are doing it, they will claim being smart. People have to know that there are consequences for any action.

What if @tracyorez did not have access to Nairaland or to this thread to seek for direction and advise?. Iam sure that account officer must have done this same thing to others.

I have googled cbn and first contact email.i will send a mail tonight.
I am really disappointed in that guy.i trusted him and made all my transactions go through him and tipped him alot as my account officer.
I trusted him to the extend that I will call and ask him to transfer money to someone and he will do without me coming to the bank to sign.
Well, life itself is a lesson and I have learnt more.

This in itself is fraudulent. You asked some bank staff to be transferring money from your account without you signing it?
So you cannot request access to the banks mobile app/internet banking and do the transfers yourself.
How do you think he did the transfers? Of course he forged your signature because he would not even have the access to effect funds transfer on their system.

There's other staff involved in this fraud and she's trying to protect them.

I'm not justifying the fraudulent act of the account officer but who said we should behead once the owner is accused/suspected?!

I'm just supporting a lil benefit of doubt or short term redemption chance without being at one's further detriment of course.

There was no loan from First Bank jare. The guy got an interest free loan from his employer and probably loaned it to the customer at 24% and also did fast deal with with the customers fund ie the Treasury Bill purported to have been used as a collateral

I just got my alert of my last year TB investment and I cannot say I am happy to receive money. One of the first alert I de receive for life and I non fit smile becaue that particular money cannot be put in NSE or any unguaranteed income. As CBN has tasted blood now even their SUKUK and other bonds will be single digits also if not decimal places sef.

Na today u know say Nigerians do not take responsibility for their actions. Blame Blame na em we sabi. Now na marital problems he wan blame on top person money.

The moment I woke up this morning to read that the email was not sent, I knew the emotional aspect of her had taken over. I wonder how many other victims are affected? and to think it is first bank. Like someone already said up there, banking in Nigeria is now so easy with various apps, online, code etc, she really has to pray that the bank do not deny her because she practically made her account a shared commodity herself, the luck she has is that the person works in the bank otherwise the bank can deny her.

If those instruments were directly under CBN rather than the DMO, their slide would have been swifter.

Nigeria's money market rates should currently rank as the Lowest in Africa.

Keep 1m in t-bills to get Max of #250 per month, I remember when it was 15k per month.

Ah that's true but even then, I want to believe they share notes and of course they can see that there is enough liquidity chasing any safe investment so they can afford to do nnaga.

Certainly.

December savings bonds will probably start seeing 0. xx% in coupon offerings.

Folks are just chasing dividends.

NSE gained about N1trn in market cap today, yet there are still a lot if stocks with over 7% div yield.

When you contrast that with 0.3% T-bills over thesame one-year period it starts looking like gold in comparison with mild steel.

What do you think is CBN's endgame in all of this? It is now clear to even the blind that a lot of Nigerians with free income will rather not still put it in the real sector of the economy.

I was having a chat with a friend of mine the other day and he was asking why the very rich Nigerians do not invest in startups, most start up grants in Nigeria come from angel investors abroad, why?

I hope this will not cause dead stocks and stocks without fundamentals to start rising and then create another market bubble like what happened in 2008?.
