Ronaldo started his career in sporting libson.

Messi started his career in Barcelona.

Remember that the next time you bring up this 2 years older argument.

Is it Messi's fault that Ronaldo was not good enough to make it onto a big team at 13 years old.

That's how you know who's the best, one has been making waves since 13, the other had to wait for a few more years cool

Oga, you are the one feeling attacked here.

I'm not for or against anyone in this argument but let us argue without sentiments.

Ronaldo started his career at Lisbon at age 17. Libson is an average team compared to Barcelona and Manchester.

Messi started his career at Barcelona. Joined first team at age 16. When he did, he was playing with the one of the best team of that time.

Ronaldo didn't join Manchester until he was 18.

I'm not hyping anyone. The records are there for all to see.
Sporting are also a big club in Portugal so, your point that Barcelona is a big team doesn't quite cut it...Need I remind you that it is more difficult for a youngster to break through a star studded team.

This is my problem. You are using analogies that do not quite fit. Honestly, what has land conquering or empire expansion got to do with the greatness of a footballer?. They are as far away from each other as possible. I am a little disappointed you don't see this analogy has too many faulty lines. I can't help but assume you just don't like the guy, so there's always the tendency to find any moot excuse to discredit that man. It's ok. It's ok.
Discredit the analogy with points.

You can't be king of football from Spain.

The kings all meet in the world cup, with different tools, to fight but Messi ghosts.

Kings sojourn, to test waters but Messi stays put.

A king is different from a governor ( greats like Scholes, Pirlo, Xavi, who are governors of midfield ).

A king test waters. Messi is a governor. cheesy

Not when you are talented. Messi and Ronaldo broke into Manchester United and Barcelona easily.

How big a club is Lisbon compared to United or Barcelona as at then?

Just imagine Ronaldo starting his career at Barcelona at 16 and Messi starting his career at Lisbon at 17.

The point is that Sporting was and remains one of the biggest club in Portugal so, whatever advantage you think Messi benefited from playing in Barcelona, Ronaldo also had same advantage...

For argument purposes, do you believe (or agree) that Messi (or Ronaldo) would win a Ballon d'or if he played for Athletico Madrid for 4 years at his prime?
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by benji93: 11:30am On Nov 18, 2020
I am a Messi fan too, but this argument has a very weak foundation. It doesn't really matter when you started making waves. In the end it's your career against mine. I mean i could be struggling through my formative years, then just explode. So the 13-year-old argument doesn't hold water.

But people use it as a point against Messi. That he had it easy because he started at Barca.

They forget that Messi started at Barca because he was already good at 13. So it was not by sheer luck he made it to Barca at that age, so why criticize him for that?

You have the mind to tell me to discredit such a wack analogy? cheesy. Arguably, the greatest ruler of all time was Napolean cos he conquered several lands, so the greatest footballer of all time must be Ronaldo, cos he hopped from one team to another. Wow. Friend, i know your line of reasoning regarding this subject, I would rather not continue with this. If he was playing in Argentina, i would probably agree with you, in that case, he has to move somewhere more competitive. But this guy plays for a team in a league that's been adjudged the best for the better part of a decade, but you insist he must move.
I am going to say this again, please think deeply about any argument before dumping it on my lap. I usually do my due diligence. Please how far has Ronaldo ever gotten at the world cup? Still, i don't hold that against him. I mean if Higuain had made the most of the chances he had in the 2010 world cup final, we could be talking about something else, perhaps you would be finding another excuse. cheesy. But well he never did. Fate happens to us all.

This GOAT debate will never be resolved fully, only that one person will have a majority of the GOAT vote, most probably less than 50% self. Pele won 3 world cups, but many will argue he never played in the most competitive league, which doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't the best. Some could say he played in Brazil most of his life.

On your governor/king argument. The last time i checked the reign of kings is long past. Their power pales in comparison to that of the governors. You don't have to look too far for evidence. It's right there in that country called Nigeria. grin. Unless you are queen Elizabeth and a few other monarchs, you don't want to be a king/queen today. You want to be a governor, the president.

True. But you don't have to start arguing along the same lines. But well if you had opined that as a way to tell them their argument is bullshit, then that's fair game, I can accept that. cheesy grin

Yes i know, but it's not a reasonable one. I mean there are a lot of variables you are not considering. You are assuming if Messi was playing for Athletico, he would be the only thing that changes. Maybe Simeone won't be their coach. Maybe we never see Godin in an Athletico shirt. Maybe we never see Griezmann in an Athletico shirt and so on and so forth. You see you need to consider as many variables as possible. And if you do, the thought of it would tire you.

The instance was not meant for Messi alone. I included Ronaldo.

Bottom line is, Messi benefited a lot for joining Barcelona the same way Ronaldo benefited from joining Manchester united.

Saying Messi is better because he's two years younger than Ronaldo while not factoring in the the age they started first team football and the clubs they started with is not a valid line of argument.

A Messi minion might enjoy that but it's not valid.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by benji93: 12:43pm On Nov 18, 2020
Saying he's better cos he's two years younger by itself is not a sound argument. If it's a projection, as in cos he's two years younger he would have topped Ronaldo in most statistical categories at the same age. But well it may never happen. His decline could be slow, and so ensures the prediction would come true.
