it's the Nigerian society that tolerates such. hence, professionals have free rein in behaving in ways they ought not. Also, an average Nigerian is unnecessarily pround and tend to abuse authority when you are at their mercy. In the Nigerian society, ego is put first before service and institutions are weak in ensuring ethics in professions are adhered to. Majority of these persons you think are rude would not in any way behave same to persons they percieve are in a higher social strata . They only exhibit such when dealing with persons they feel cannot be of help to them or cause them to face some disciplinary actions . these same persons would act differently when in organized societies with working instutions and laws .

Only in Nigeria and some other third world countries where customer services are lacking, where little or no value is placed on human lives in our rundown hospitals and public/private sector establishments.

Be rude to your customers or service users in the Western world and get fired from your job on the spot.

Attitudes need to change with ample dose of the right types of training.

The customer is always right is not just an empty saying.

You just reminded me day I went to my HOD's Office to get my Attestation letter from his Secretary just like the Man promised us to come back because of light Issues... The Secretary was so mean to us and she said and I quote " You people that wont remember me when you become somebody"... God disappointed her when the Man came back to his Office.. God bless Dr. Olajide for me...

i understand that been rude and impolite is something personal but looking around, some professions habour large number of these rude and stern set of peeps and it makes me wonder..

1.Nurses; I recently went to a general hospital to see a friend and seeing the way these nurses handle patients makes me wonder if hostility is part of the nursing curriculum being taught in nursing school... A particular patient was screaming of pains and these nurses were just glued to their plasma television watching zeeworld.. I understand the work load is quite cumbersome but does that justify thier carlous attitude towards people they are meant to take care of...

2. Bankers; epecially the ones in the customer care stand...their attitude can be very annoying.

3.Nepa staff; hmmmm these ones ehn, their ear is selectively non receptive to the word "abeg"...most especially the ones assigned to disconnect light.

4. Doctors; though a few medical doctors are nice, there is still a large chunk of very rude medical doctors..u see them operating phone and chatting when a patient is right before them struggling for life.

This is not to say there aren't nice and dedicated staff in the above listed profesionals but a very good number of them are, in summary, quite rude to say the least..

when some human being finds themselves in place of authority, they forget their are human beings they become alfa � pride and arrogance.. a nurse or doctor that supposed to be caring or even lecturals, school owners need not to be harsh but it's rare to see them being nice and gentle �

Nigerians are generally rude people..no sense of empathy. The Rude Society made people in those professions like that.
It's a Guard against their Self esteem.
A typical Nigerian is not patient and will say rubbish at any slight opportunity.
You will find out that all professions in Nigeria that deal with plenty people tend to be aggressive and uncaring.

You are correct. I've seen them screaming at a man because he didn't look rich and couldn't speak English. Felt bad for him. He had to eat humble pie and this small girl, probably an intern from school, was screaming for him more than anyone else. No respect at all. And nobody reported her.

Being in a profession doesn't make you a rude person per say. Imagine one nurse be in charge of over 20 patients during a shift, the work load including some very rude patients and relatives insulting you on top the job, and you have to make sure you do everything before the end of your shift. Some persons can bear the insults anf still smile at it even begging cos they might just attack you. But most persons have very low stress threshold who wouldn't tolerate that. It happens in all profession not only the one ones mentioned above, it's an individual thing and not by being in a particular profession.
I am nurse, when I'm on duty, I make sure I joke with my patients, smile with them, play with them, beg them if need be cos I small, and I not fit make one patient or relatives beat me join the small salary wey I dey get.
Most patients and thier relatives are too rude arrogant and very provocative and they already have the notion that nurses are rude and they come prepared ready to attack anyone.

It's unfair though

Once a patient asks "shouldn't you give it" or "what is this you are injecting me with?" Intense anger from nurse. They will do anything to you at that point, except to answer you.

Youu think we came to test you? Or we have the right to know? angry mannerless nurses. Complain because you're not feeling fine, anger and hatred. They will just force in the injection and press it so fast causing pains and vomiting to patients, even the ones that want to place injections in the middle of the buttocks, they want to do it without any question. Who did that to nurses?

So because she processed something for you, which is her job she is paid to do, when you become somebody in life you must remember her? Has she remembered the people who processed things for her? Entitlement is the mother of all staff related wickedness.

I remembered back then in school what some of us passed through just to do our final year clearance. The way those idiots look down on students ehn. I remember my own case in 400l. I was advised to write a letter to the dean concerning a missing script. Wrote the letter well in plain white paper and proceeded to his office. I met his sec and greeted. Then in their usual demeaning way of responding with "How are you", she answered. Meanwhile she was eating. I explained myself but she didn't even do like say person dey follow am talk. I stood for like 5 min and all of a sudden she shouted '" young man don't be stupid , you can see I'm eating , will you get out of this place. ". She proceeded to insult me in Yoruba too. Out of embarassment, I went out and went back in again after like 30 min. I waited for 30min to be sure she must have finished her food coz I no want another round of embarassment. So I got in greeted and re explained myself. She dey use me watch television . After standing for about 5 min she stretched her hands signifying me to hand the paper over to her. Then in her words she was like "did you pick this paper out of the dustbin"
She tore it, threw it at me and asked me to get out. As I was going out, she still called me back and asked me to pick up the mess (torn paper) on the floor.

I kept my cool coz I no want situation where person go mark my face and dey find my matric number .

You seem not to even have an understanding of how the hospital works at all even though you appear to.
Nurses in private hospitals (usually owned by doctors) are nice and caring because they know they can be fired any time if there are complaints from patients.
Nurses that are rude are those in government hospitals where doctors and nurses have equal rights. A doctor has to even beg before some nurses carry out their duties. There nurses are not under the control of doctors but listen to their superiors only. They do whatever they like and nobody can talk to them except their superiors. Government work is like that anywhere in this country, not just the hospital.
In private settings however,anybody( all employees) can be ordered around like in any other private business e.g schools

You also seem not to know that all other professionals in the hospital apart from doctors are under one umbrella called JOHESU. Their strike is the worst. When doctors go on strike,they just withdraw their services, that's all...but when JOHESU goes on strike,they lock up the entire hospital so that doctors that are not on strike cannot even use the hospital.
Summary: It is laughable to adduce the behavior of nurses to ill-treament by doctors. It shows gross ignorance.

Nigerian nurses are used as domestic servants by doctors that they are older than sometimes. This causes deep inferiority complex and aggression which they transfer on patients who book an appointment with a doctor through them . Each time a patient gets to a doctor through them in a hospital, they are reminded of their gross irrelevance in the scheme of things. Have you ever heard of "Nurses strike"? That's how irrelevant they are. I'm describing auxiliary nurses here not matrons and midwives.

Employees you meet at commercial banks are not necessarily banking professionals who understand accounting and economics. Those that collect deposits and customer service officials are usually contract staffs who are made to work like slaves for cheap wages. The only difference between these people and the bank security is their uniform. You most likely have never spoken with a real banker at a bank. The real bankers stay in inner rooms and enjoy their lives.

Not just this listed set. Many other profession particularly in Nigeria... All security officials, even teachers. Mostly, government employees (civil servants) that feels no matter what they do, no head is gonna roll. There's protection for them and their job is secure.
