Gowon-Took 50% of the Central Bank
IBB- Took 60% of the Central Bank
Abacha- Took 70% of the Central Bank
Abdusalami: Took 90% of the Central Bank and left OBJ with nothing in the coffers.
Buhari- I wonder how much Buhari has taken

You skipped OBJ and GEJ and jumped down to Buhari. Na poor retentive memory be this na... Everyone of them are thieves... Simple!!!

Yes but if he had democratised earlier the condtions that caused the revolution to develop might not have happened

One problem i have with many african leaders is that they oftentimes fail to anticipate problems. Like if Buhari had sorted out the Sars thing from the word go in 2015 for example, would there have been the endsars protests? Maybe the dead at lekki would have been alive.

And yes, Mandela did the right thing.

You are right. I am not looking at what is best for any individual, I am looking at whatds best for the people.

If Nigerian historians could paint Gowon as a war hero and saint, only for him to be exposed to be a pilferer like this, then I wonder how much Nigerian government and historians have twisted the Nigerian civil war story

Just stop the rubbish! The Oyibo man is confusing Gowon for Abacha.

During the conflict, there was a time Gaddafi indicated that they will do elections and transform the country into a democracy. NATO rejected, the rebels knowing they have foreign backing rejected. Now here is Libya, a failed state with 3 different governments. Some regions in Libya are controlled by Warlords. As we speak, there is a movement in Sirte to bring back the previous Green Flag under Gaddafi. I am not against a revolution. But a bloody one is just going to be an opportunity for bloodbath in Africa. Imagine if Mandela wanted a bloody revolution you thing SA would be any better?

It still doesn’t excuse dictatorship.

Plus Mandela embraced violent revolution through bombing and he was an active player. That is what landed him in prison in the first place. Google uMkhonto we Sizwe.

Nigeria is cursed and the curse goes thus... All those born pre Civil war must die for Nigeria to rise. A generation must die for the blood it has shed.

Why don’t you start by killing your parents! The rest of pre civil war elders will live.

I don’t know what version of books you read o, but across the plains of Africa, Ghadaffi is mostly revered as a statesman. Like I said earlier though, none of these matter to him now, he doesn’t have any problems, Libyans do.
PhiliptheArab:

And if Ghaddafi had democratised earlier he would have been revered as a statesman

Instead he sat tight in power. And it created a nidus of bitterness for the CIA and others to exploit when the time came.

That figure was exaggerated. Nigeria civil war death toll shouldn't be more than 500,000.

Just the way people will come and say Nigeria is 200 million population, without conducting genuine census, but if you use other indices you see that Nigeria is not up to 160 million people.

We are almost the same population with Ethiopia

Yes Mandela did. But he changed. His stance on peace made him die a single man. If he came out and wanted revenge and blood, South Africa that is having economic woes now would have become a shithole

The worst part is that these people are still alive and enjoying Nigerian money.

Where a common armed robber would have been lynched or even shot by firing squad these men are given a hero's welcome, fly in lavish private jets and host expensive parties.

Mandela’s approach fuelled the discussion on apartheid. His incarceration even helped their struggle. We cannot divorce his violent approach from the fruits it yielded. Yes he changed but it is the violence of the ANC that brought apartheid to its knees. His people didn’t condemn his violent actions, they actually made him into a martyr and it worked.

Childish question, also ask: Abacha who died in Office how did he then move Nigeria money to foreign countries, as if the time given them to loot money is yet to come,as if one week is too small to leaders to steal up to 100 billion naira.
what did the uk do when he came with stolen funds Nothing

He certianly was a bad leader because like most african leaders he sat tight and opressed the opposition brutally

That created a large bitter bit of his population that promptly revolted and it was naturally exploited by his enemies.

Same thing for the Shah of Iran. Sat tight. Thought he was untouchable because the US was backing him. Till he got thrown out.

Pinochet of Chile was another bad leader. But he died in his bed of old age because he handed over power early enough. And even got an immunity deal out of it ( not fair, but the prodemocracy people had no choice).

Do we also need proof of his massacre of over 3 million Biafrans and which of these two atrocities is more grevious

There's no way three million population would have died in the civil war. Even the longest war in the history of the world, 52 years to be precise recorded just 250,000 death. Nigeria war that was fought with arrow and stick. Ask yourself how many people died in wars that was fought with more deadlier weapons and lasted longer than Nigeria civil war. Syria, 9 years of fighting with sophisticated weapons and hunger, the casualty is not up to 1.5 million people but we believe every lies (history) told to us here in Nigeria.

Shut the hell up. Abacha never saw his death coming yet he stole almost what my brain can’t calculate. Gowon been in AU meeting when he was overthrown don’t stop him from stealing,he might ve moved money before the meeting etc. you can’t defend any Nigerian leader when it comes to money and national treasury.

So sad! All the past leaders in this country must be thoroughly investigated. And the UK government kept quiet for decades using to the money to run their economy. They have concealing the information because they are benefiting from the loots. No wonder a former UK prime minister (Cameron) once said "Nigerians are fantastically corrupt". "He who profits from a crime is also guilty of it".

Gowon left to the UK from Uganda, directly after his overthrow. Does it mean that he had "the money" with him while at the OAU summit in Kampala? Was he then aware his govt was going to be toppled ahead of the summit? Did he have access to the CBN after his overthrow? Clarifications needed.

Abacha stole all those money the day he died, or let's just say he had access to Nigeria money after he died or better still, he had the money with him the day he died cause he knew the time he was going to die.

Clarified now?

Don't be so perssimistic ,NIGERIA WILL BE GREAT AGAIN.....I used to tell people ,a bad situation cannot continue forever ,the situation will change one day afterall those who want to continue milking the country dry won't live forever .

Continue deceiving yourself. No problem.

The only person I pity is your children who is believing this lie you are peddling.

The structure on which the Nigerian society was built from then till now was never made to be great.

The day more than 60% of Nigerians realize this, Nigeria's problem is more than half-solved.
