On d 20th of October, 2020, which was d day of d lekki shooting incident, nigerians woke up to d news of a spate of attacks on public & private property by hoodlums in several areas of mainland Lagos. These areas where nowhere near protests sites either on mainland or d island. because of d destruction & breakdown of law& order, d govt of lagos state decided to declare a curfew which was to commence at 9pm that night. In d mean time, thugs& hoodlums were still having a field day.

Based on what u said above, can u kindly tell me d fake news that was peddled that was responsible for d events that I just shared with u?

The curfew was to commence at 4pm but it was later moved to 9pm. Any reasonable person who was part of the protests should have gone home by 6pm latest but in an act of defiance they remained at the protest site and dared the government to do its worst.

As if that was not enough after solders got there and fired shots all manner of news started flying through social media including the one that said that Badmus had been shot and killed...these were the things that further enraged people to go on a mindless destruction and loot spree..

CNN's emphasis was never on the no of persons killed but that power crazy individuals also unfortunately known as the Nig govt authorized the shooting of unarmed protesters. What happened to tear gas?

It wasn't CNN that spread the fake news but some Nigerian with malicious intent. On the night of the shooting, the social media was awashed with Photoshop, misrepresentation, fake videoa, outright lies and editing aimed at inciting Nigerian towards a pattern of violence in Lagos.
CNN as a broadcasting station of global repute has a right to investigate incident by consulting people and eye witness. But unfortunately, eye witness account in Nigeria is monumentally flawed because those who are likely to say the truth didn't see it and those who claim to see it aren't saying the truth.
