Well, its all about mindset. How about start freelancing on fiveer.com? Or cashing out on your skills by displaying it on social media as a side job (eg photograph)? Also, utilise sites workawayer.info, volunteer and get some free accommodation and food, with social circle of course to easily integrate into any country you find yourself?

When I was in college, I toured the world with almost nothing. From hitch hiking, and volunteering for food and housing? Of course I could afford that, but the experience was all I was after. And the people you would meet would most likely be wonderful non materialistic folks. But hey, I understand. My reality as a European is different from a Nigerian, though, you may pick one or two things out of it.

One of those Woke people I talked about. The realities of a black Brit or American differ from a Nigerian, I have warned you people, never ever take advice from them. Their experiences differ greatly. How many young Nigerians can travel free across the globe? With which passport?

you could also check Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, everyone knows to ignore North Korea, Indonesia

Singapore is expensive for education as a foreigner. To attain citizenship or even PR, one needs to be highly skilled. Philippines from Nigeria is jumping from one sh!thole to another. Almost same for Thailand. Those places (Philippines and Thailand) are good to enjoy as a tourist not reside permanently. Their economies aren't even that bourgeoning.

Leaving Nigeria is a must, for me I have 4 countries in mind Canada, USA, Germany or UK for for now I don't have the means to so I stay on the various country trend read people testimonies and just maybe some days I will find the easiest way to any of those country. True be told life in Nigeria is not easy especially when you don't know anybody holding a political position.

If you're migrating out of Nigeria, Canada/USA is your first option, followed by the UK. Anybody who migrates anywhere else is because they don't have the ability to migrate to those 3 countries. Any other countries such as Brazil, Caribbean Islands are nothing more than 2nd options. They're better than naija, but stop comparing them to legitimate G7 nations like Canada or USA. There's level to this. There's no shame saying I have to settle for a secondary country. Comparing a S-hole country like Brazil with one of the world's highest murder rate to Canada? Go and sit down.

Fallacy of hasty generalisation. You have this erroneous belief that those are the only developed countries with huge economies in the world. Actually, some of us have the financial resources and mental power to relocate to those places but deliberately decline to.

Nobody has mentioned Singapore. Their passport is ranked at #14 alongside UAE.
Their country ; so well developed and the economy is growing at an exponential rate...

Not a place for a typical Nigerian to migrate to. There are even quotas for PR and citizenship. Singapore is easy if one has more than enough financial resources, smart (very smart) and Chinese looking. You seem to forget that it is one of the most expensive places to live. Migrating to Singapore can be attained as a Nigerian if one studies a STEM course in a highly ranked university (say Princeton or Stanford), applies for a job (which has its quotas for foreigners) and moves there. Apply for PR after two years (depending on the work visa you are on) https://www.ica.gov.sg/apply/PR/apply_PR_who

To move directly from Nigeria? The set of Nigerians who can do so would rather move to Canada as the costs are literally the same.

The strength of Singapore's passport is top 4 I believe. Which organisation's ranking did you use?

The problem with Nigerians (or the black man in general), is our inability to think outside the box.. life is not all about accumulating degrees and hustling in UK, Canada or USA.
.. we chase money & flashy things to the detriment of peace of mind, without considering if we may achieve happiness by living modestly in a country that isn't necessarily in the West.

Consider other African countries like Rwanda, Gambia & Mauritius .. these are fairly successful African nations.
or
South American countries like Colombia, Brazil etc where one can still find jobs in the developed areas of town.
or
go set up businesses in Caribbean countries where tourism is thriving!

Since our country has failed us, let's learn to think outside the box!

Do you know a taxi driver in Bahamas has a better quality of life than a banker in Lagos?
Do you know that thousands of educated African-Americans are relocating to Salvador, Brazil in search of a better, happy and more fulfilled life?

Think outside the box people.

Am just puzzled as to why a Nigerian living and obviously enjoining the fresh air of England will recommend a Sithole country like The Gambia for his kinsman who sought economic opportunities. angry

You are recommending places people go to after they have made money not BEFORE. The unemployment rate in most if not all Southern Africa is almost at the same level as Nigeria's. No point going there if one does not have enough money to live a comfortable life.

No. I'm recommending places people go to before, during and after they made money. You narration implies that people are not living a good life in those places, and they are all desperate to move abroad. That is not true.

If not, lots of southern American countries wont hahe free visa to the EU.

You people are hilarious on this forum, very hilarious I tell you.

They're better than naija. But to pick them over Canada or USA? You are crazy. The language, cultural, and racial issues will destroy you. Canada, UK, and USA have a long history with blacks. These countries don't.

I get your point but they are living a good life as citizens having privileges a Nigerian migrant won't have.

At this stage of my life, I consider the economics over skin colour (economic activities have shifted from west to east). Besides, those places are way safer (less criminal acts) than most western countries.

My bad, I referred to an old source ... Singapore's passport is actually #2 (according to CNN).

You are missing the point.. I'm simply telling folks that the West is not the end all be all.
..why waste so much resources trying to get into 'the big three' countries who have tightened their immigration policies thus making it so hard for the average Joe to migrate there .. when there are easier alternatives that may not be perfect but will offer you a better quality of life than in Nigeria.

As far as I know a Nigerian will be far better off living here than a country like The Gambia, even a slightly better Mauritius isn't all as rosy as it sounds. Bahamas is a nice country but the economic opportunities there are limited to mainly tourism sector which is dominated by locals thereby making it difficult for a foreigner to break through.

Migrating to a developed country pretty much worth the stress and the resources. The quality of life, security, access to economic opportunities are all good reasons people choose them in the first place.

I always recommend highly developed countries like US,Uk , Germany and so on for any Nigerian willing to move abroad as this has proven over time to be smart decision that yield desirable results over time. This countries offer high standard of living unparalleled in developing countries like Mauritius or the Gambia. An average Android phone cost lesser than an iPhone but pretty inferior in quality. Same analogy applies to migration.

Hope you get my point.

They may be shit holes but they actually have some people richer than people in Canada /US etc..I met a traveller because I live in Ukraine and this guy is 45, he lived in Newyork 15years and Africa 3 years ,Dubai 5 years and he travels a lot .Right now he lives in Kyiv Ukraine and He said he makes the most money here and doesn’t spend so much .Imagine living in a comfortable apartment of $300 monthly and making $30000 monthly with extremely low taxes. So it depends on individuals

We're talking about the average person here. All these feel good 1 percent stories should stop. Most likely they built the capital in North America any ways.

If you have a BSc and you can raise #1million naira (this includes your flight ticket money), there's big hope for you in the US.

Please shed more light on this. I'm currently studying geography, will soon graduate. How can 1M take me to U.S

Please be kind to list the Asian countries.
I am also considering migrating via study route.
Would be 31 next year
Civil engineering (HND)
post nysc experience is 2 years( though I've worked for about 3 yrs before nysc)
My budget is 2m
I am single.
Next year is my target sincerely.

kevwemanuel:

If you have up to #6 million you can target Norway. You don't pay tuition fees, but you'll need over #5milla for living expenses. A similar thing applies to Germany, but you will need your 100level Nigeria University transcript for Germany, which I guess you don't have.

You can also look at Russia. I think you'll see schools that require less than #1million for tuition.

You are avoiding USA, if not you can write SAT, blast the exam and get fully funded.

You can also visit the Canada thread on Nairaland to see if you can get cheap schools there.

If you can learn Portuguese, you can get a free education in Brazil, and I think Uruguay (Spanish).

You are looking for countries that are big and are not "shitholes", if not I would have recommended some Asia countries where school fees is cheap and you can be working.

So go through this list and make a decision.

All the best.

I hear you. Is all good wanting to further studies abroad or whatever. Have you done research on what us really going on in these COVID-19 times in these countries? My advice is to use the same energy you're spending to migrate to invest in Nigeria and build your bank account. Wait until this COVID-19 thing is over and things return to normalcy. As it is presently worldwide.... no institution is stable.... no country is stable. Citizens with soo many rights and access to public support are feeling the squeeze..... struggling to cope.... how will you? This is not a time to migrate period..... I know what I'm saying.

You need to understand the do or die mentality..... no different from wanting to start a job from the top ...if not.... rather be jobless... for yearsss.... starting below and moving up is not in their book.

It depends on why you want to travel. Is it to build your career as a civil engineer or just to leave Nigeria to a place where you can have a good and comfortable life with any legal job?
