Here is what I have realized as a Nigerian who grew up in Nigerian did some study abroad and visited some other countries for vacation. (Make I buga small as Nigerian wey I be ) As Nigerians, we are all about being “Right” hence the reason why we can’t have conversations without argument, abuses and fights. We always want to be heard (I think this is because we have been oppressed for so many years by leaders, from the British to past and present Nigerian leaders). This has made everyone (almost) always wanting to show their level of education and intelligence even at the expense of sounding rude and abusive. I have had conversations with people from other countries and what’s always important in their conversation is “Learning” and giving “Advice”. They speak more from experience and when it’s “hear say” they quote and make it know it’s “hear say” or “I read”. But for us Nigerians, it’s quite different, because we respect our uncle that told us that thing, we are ready to fight or abuse another with that information (forgetting that this elderly ones this days lie a lot). The whole UK tread has been arguing and fighting all week for things that I shud share my own experience or hear say and you share yours too. But we tend to insult people or trample on their personality just cos we think we are right. Being in UK for years doesn’t mean you know it all, and I know as human we sometimes feel little or small when someone who just joined seem to know more than us, but you don’t have to always respond to your feelings. In conversations just have an open mind to things. Give advice and that’s it, it’s up to the person to use the advice or let it go. You can’t force people to believe in things you believe in. Ask yourself why countries outside Nigerian live with gay, lesbians and trans, it’s not because everyone accepts it, it’s because you have to respect people’s decisions and not bash them. Yes your religion is against it, but your religion is not the only one in the world and you can’t force anyone to a religion. That said, I plead that we Respect other people’s view in life, you may not agree with it, but just respect it and not run them down for it. This has lead to people not sharing new informations and updated information here because they fear one old papa will start to run them down and trash them. For me, I think it is more of English to me and not how other sites does theirs. “Currency I have” (maybe any currency, usd, pounds, euro or IRN, but in this case naira cos that is what I have) and “Currency I want“ ( could be anything, but in this case, pounds, cos that’s the money I want to get with the naira I have). Remember that this oanda site is used by every other part of the world and not just Nigerians. This has got nothing to do with living in UK, being a professor, an accountant, medical doctor, Maths teacher or even a first class graduate. And I understand why someone will be disappointed by masters applicant having this difficulty, and that is because we made it “Argument” instead of “Conversation”. Please let’s learn to respect each other, that’s the only way we can share ideas and grow. Blessed day to everyone. 29 Likes |

Hello gurus in the house, is it acceptable if I use a printout of my bank statement as my proof of funds without a stamp (my bank doesn't stamp statements and is a UK bank). Or must it be a copy posted directly from the bank(this option takes about 5 working days)? |

kingsilly: A friend shared their rejection with me some time ago , which shows exactly this concept ..... UKVI using GBP up and naira down, as the base currency is pound Thanks for taking the time to share . This (receipt / evidence) really should clear any doubt 2 Likes |

You don't require a stamp since it originates from a UK bank and UK banks rarely stamp statements. The online bank statement is accepted too; if doing self-upload, you can you the pdf copy from your online banking. Whichever one you use is basically up to you. Muol11: |

I think everybody is right concerning oanda currency conversion. The difference is this: If u are paying tuition from Nigeria, that means the currency u have is Naira (up) and u are buying pounds which is the currency u want (down). Then, For bank statement POF, the UKVI has pounds (up) and the currency equivalent it wants is Naira (down). Note : that is why u pay more Naira for tuition fees deposit and less for POF (bank statement) Thank u. 5 Likes |
