The last has not been heard of the Boko Haram terrorists' onslaught on Zabarmari community in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State as the insurgents invaded rice farms on Thursday, shooting sporadically to scare away the residents.

Some of the witnesses told SaharaReporters that the terrorists came to the area but nobody was killed or abducted as people fled their homes.

Last Saturday, Boko Haram inflicted one of the greatest casualty figures in the state by slaughtering no fewer than 78 rice farmers in the community – an incident that has attracted national and global condemnation.

One of the residents, Ishaya Ahmed, said women who were on their way to farm on Thursday first caught a glimpse of the terrorists.

"While some of our women and girls were on their way to the farm on Thursday, they came across the Boko Haram in large numbers, moving in a single line from north to south and, at the sight of the women, they began to shoot sporadically into the air to scare people away.

"So, the women froze at the gunshots and could not proceed to the farms. They had to return. I think the insurgents spared them because they were women. If we, the men, had followed them, they might have killed us."

A community leader in Zabarmari, who did not want his name to be mentioned, told SaharaReporters that boys and men were affected in the Saturday's gruesome murder.

"Some of them were newly-weds," he said. "Some with very young families. Others were mostly school-age boys while some were hired to harvest the farm for some fee. We heard the rumours that women were also killed, but it is not true."

Meanwhile, a woman in the community who lost her husband during the attack, said: "We got married eight months ago. I don't have a child, and I don't have any business I am doing. I only survive by what my husband makes from the farm. At the moment, I am staying with my mother since the death of my husband."

The Senate earlier on Tuesday called on the president to fire the service chiefs who have failed to secure Nigerians while the House of Representatives summoned the president to brief the house on the mass murder.

The Borno State governor, Babagana Zulum, who seemed to have lost trust on Nigerian armed forces, had on Monday asked the president to engage the services of mercenaries to fight Boko Haram.

"One of our recommendations as possible solutions to end the insurgency is the immediate recruitment of our youths into military and paramilitary services to complement the efforts of the Nigerian forces," he said. "Our third recommendation is for the President to engage the services of mercenaries to clear the entire Sambisa forest."

A soldier, whose identity could not be immediately ascertained, on Saturday, assaulted a young lady who was dressed in a manner he considered indecent.

The incident happened around 9:47 am at Oju-Ore in the Ota area of Ogun State.

The lady, who was clad in a pair of shorts and white knitted coverup, was trekking on the road when she was assaulted.

Eyewitnesses told The PUNCH that the soldier, who was riding in a commercial bus, alighted from the bus and pounced on the young lady, unprovoked.

Eyewitnesses reported that he slapped the young lady repeatedly and when the shocked lady attempted to run away from the unprovoked assault, he pulled her back violently with her braided long hair.

The soldier was caught on video yanking off the young lady’s blouse and had also wanted to take off her bra when passersby intervened.

They begged him repeatedly before he let go of the lady.

He then joined the commercial bus he was riding in and the driver drove off.

Efforts to reach the spokesman for 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major Olaniyi Osoba, for comments proved abortive on Saturday as his line was switched off as of the time of filing this report.

Last month, soldiers deployed in the streets of Beere in Ibadan, Oyo State, to curb the #EndSARS protests were also caught on camera flogging a woman for what they termed ‘indecent dressing’.

Rights group, Amnesty International, has accused the Nigerian military of committing several acts of abuse some of which include whipping, forced haircuts, and sometimes, extrajudicial killings.

People were definitely killed. This one hit the media probably because of the high number of casualties.

I cannot count how many times the fired wood guys were killed in the bushes during during my stay in Monguno. One of my colleagues in Monguno lost her Dad this same way early this year.

Any Land 7KM outside the perimeter of a Military base is an ISWAP/Bokoharam territory.

Keep on pasting posts, without quoting sources, you won't hear word, what if this story isn't exactly as it is, and you are tracked, what do you think would be the outcome, army didn't make statement, you didn't verify your information, or till someone forwards this post to army intelligence or defense intelligence just to teach you a lesson or settle a grudge and you are picked up , you won't use your number 6.

Look at you, what is the definition of sympathy? Not everything you will be emotional about, that you switch off the logical part of your brain, that voids the bigger picture..... it doesn't mean,i lack sympathy or empathy. I'm just been objective.

Sincerely the army needs to reorientate its personnel. Haba
The Nigerian Soldier Ants are becoming more useless by the day. it's either they are shooting peaceful protesters or beating girls putting on mini skirt. Now they have started to fight those who are physically challenged.

Rank
A Brigade Commander most likely will be headed by a Senior Colonel or Brigadier General.
A Garrison it actually depends on what it is and the size ( It could be a Cantonment) /Battalion headed by a Lt. Colonel.

A colonel can only be a "acting" brigade commander, the appointment belongs to a Brig.Gen.

I read somewhere that non RC officers cannot hold Command positions- SSC and DSSC officers cannot.

Don’t know about Non-RC
I do know SSC and DSSC have held Command positions.
Lt.Gen Buratai most definitely saw to that :
Stand out in combat :Get promoted
Get things done: Get promoted
A General is a General be it a One, Two , Three or 4 Star.
Being an SSC or DSSC gets relegated to the dust.
Gen Buratai also promoted a Warrant Officer to the rank of Captain- A practice not seen since the Civil War for exceptional bravery and leadership.
